Deletion of PenPal World

In case you didn't know, PenPal World has been featured in a magazine article (See its Facebook page). It is a very significant thing to the internet. It's just that not enough people know about it. I am absolutely appalled that someone would delete a page for such an important website. I need as many good reasons as possible why an article about it should not exist on Wikipedia. Out of every article I've created, I thought this one would hit the jackpot. Sure my previous ones made no sense, and I was less mature when I created them. But it's been years, and I am such a huge fan of PenPal World, which I think is popular enough that there should be a Wikipedia page for it. I think that there should be some reconsideration here.

Largerthanlife147 (talk) 01:36, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

I've userfied it to User:Largerthanlife147/PenPal World over the top of your restart there, for more work in a safer place. Deletion at CSD A7 is on what we see in an article, and there wasn't enough there to warrant keeping. Please read WP:WEB about notability for websites, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. A Facebook page can't be used to prove notability, and nor can the website itself. "It's just that not enough people know about it" doesn't fill me with much hope, as being known is the basis of our notability requirement. If you get stuck, MelanieN is good at digging up refs, and so is Ritchie333. Peridon (talk) 12:18, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Peridon/Archives/2016.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Please review my translation (page "Pierre Hemmer", in my sandbox)

You kindly offered to check my English translation of the article "Pierre Hemmer". I'm coming to the end of the first round, so I gladly accept that you control it. Thank's a lot ! (Marsile (talk) 07:39, 19 November 2016 (UTC)).

OK. I've been to User:Marsile/sandbox and I've taken the liberty of doing some tweaks to the English. A major problem for translators is that English and French use different verb tenses when discussing people. Where French uses the present tense, English uses the past. I think I've changed them all appropriately. I've changed 'dead' to 'died', and 'professor' to 'teacher' as English only uses professor for university posts (apart from Hogwarts Academy and some Victorian schools)). 'Regent' is causing me some trouble - 'rėgent' looks to be the title for a village leader, but in English 'regent' is normally used only for a stand-in for a monarch (or sometimes another sort of national leader). It might be best to use 'rėgent' rather than translate. I also changed 'born' back to 'nėe' for his wife as that is the way English refers to a pre-marriage name. I'll ping @MelanieN: to see if she can look at the notability side of things, and the other things that make up an article here. The different language Wikipedias have different styles and requirements. Peridon (talk) 12:20, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the ping, Peridon. I could do some tweaking of the article to get it more into Wikipedia style. But you asked about notability, and IMO that is a little shaky. There is too much about his family - cousins, grandparents, and sisters do not help toward notability, per WP:NOTINHERITED. I would trim that to a "personal" section about his parents, his wife and children, and the manner of his death (which rated a newspaper article of its own). Most of the rest of the article is an unsourced resumé. The best case for notability comes in the last sentence: "Engaged in May 2006 by the Federal Chancellery as Head of Development, and then from April 2008 by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs[30] as Head of eGovernment Services Development, Pierre Hemmer was responsible for initiating a first harmonization of Internet-based government services[31] to all cantons and communes of Switzerland.[32]." If that aspect of his life could be expanded and made into the main focus of the article, it would be a lot stronger. It would also help a lot if some of the references were linked, so that they can be consulted. Bottom line, it's an excellent translation; the English is fine. But I think if it is moved into the encyclopedia as it is, it will get sent to WP:AfD for notability reasons, and I'm not sure it would pass. User:Marsile, if you want to work on these suggested improvements, I'll be glad to help (although unfortunately I don't speak French} --MelanieN (talk) 16:40, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for the translation corrections. Also thanks for your help and advice. I will continue to work on this subject and go into some parts of the article. Marsile (talk) 07:42, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

My page deletion

The page is not a promotional one.. it is just an info page about a book which is going to be released anytime soon in chennai.. i am in no way connected to the book.. i jus found many positive response in facebook and created the page.. i request u to add the page and not delete it again pls $ Akshara Viswa $ (talk) 13:13, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

There must be notability for there to be an article. Please see WP:NBOOK about notability for books, and WP:RS about the reliable independent sources needed to prove the notability. I find it hard to believe that you are not connected to the book or its author in any way. We do get a lot of people claiming not to be connected to things but who are enthusiastic enough to post advertising for them. I'm afraid that anything about an as yet unissued self-published book by a non-notable (WP:BIO) has to be advertising as there can't be notability yet. And without evidence of notability in reliable independent sources, there can be no article. Sorry. Peridon (talk) 13:23, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Aboobacker Amani

Good morning, help me to improve the Article about Aboobacker Amani, i need some more information about the deletion of the Article.

sincerely, a wiki user — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.97.111.204 (talk) 12:04, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Please decide which account you are going to use, and sign in when editing. It makes things easier when admins are trying to find deleted pages, and confirms that you are you. Only one account should be used normally, although secondary accounts may be used for editing on insecure servers or for test purposes. OK. Wikipedia strongly discourages people from writing about themselves - see WP:AUTOBIO and WP:COI. To qualify for an article, a person must be shown to pass WP:BIO, with reliable independent sources WP:RS to prove the notability. These sources do not include own sites, social media like Facebook or Twitter etc, blogs, weebly, blogspot or wordpress sites (etc), forums, wikis, IMDb, or anything that is editable by the public. Also not acceptable are mere mentions, hosted profiles, lists, school records (although these can be used if there is dispute to establish fact, but not notability), and so on. BTW When writing articles, please do not change type size. The facility to do this is built into the software for things like signatures and technical formulae and equations. It's not for emphasis in normal typing. Peridon (talk) 12:39, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Stigmabase

Your message to STIGMABASE

Peridon (talk) 18:21, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

NewPages

I had been away from NewPages for a while. The new pages that are yet to be patrolled do not appear in the yellow highlighted form anymore. Did something change during my time away? Yash! 17:25, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

There's a new right for NPP - I've not quite caught up with it yet. Have a look at Kudpung's post above and you might find a way to see what it is all about. He knows all about it, anyway. Peridon (talk) 18:00, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
