Why is it called Karas?

Over the years my family lore has it that the PZL P23 Karas was named after Edward Karas in recognition of his airborne exploits in the war against Russia in 1918/19 for which he won a Virtuti Militari. I have no corroboration of this family history and would welcome confirmation or otherwise from anyone who might have some facts.Paul Karas (talk) 23:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Karas means Crucian Carp a species of fish!Petebutt (talk) 18:08, 12 August 2009 (UTC) Petebutt (talk) 18:10, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - yes I know that my surname means Crucian Carp - my question is whether the aircraft was named after a fish or an aviator with a Virtuti Militari of the same name! Does anyone still living know the answer?
