Your sig

You still having problems with your sig? Try going into Preferences, and clearing out everything in the signature box. Make sure the checkbox below the box doesn't have a tick in it. Save preferences, then see what happens. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 15:58, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Did as you recommend. Yes, I was still having problems with signature. And how did you know that? Oberonfitch (talk) 17:16, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Seems to have cleared up following your advice. thanks! Oberonfitch (talk) 17:36, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Didn't mean to alarm - I passed someone else's talkpage, and saw you were having a problem I've come across before. Hopefully you should be fine from now on. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 19:21, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Not alarmed. Just curious; wondered if there were some repository of information somewhere on Wiki of "people who can't figure out how to get the bot to sign for them." I'm still stumbling around the neighborhood purposelessly. Thanks for the help.  :) Oberonfitch (talk) 22:44, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
I think if you checked Sine Bot's contributions, you're listed in there somewhere :) Not, I think, that anyone ever checks. Feel free to give me a shout if you get problems with anything else to do with markup, navigation etc. I'll be glad to help if I can. --Elen of the Roads (talk) 23:52, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

(sotto voce)

Excuse my limited response ... Have worn my fingers out lately. lol (And broadband went out this afternoon, which was good. :)

Haven't looked at Polanski tonight, yet. Whatever you've said in whatever way will surely not cause the earth to spin into the sun (I don't think. lol) Must have food now. Hungry. :) Proofreader77 (talk) 05:11, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Only two teams ...

Good vs Evil. (Duh!) LOL ... No wussy shades of gray 'round here. Proofreader77 (talk) 00:35, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

10,000

P.S., I am 15 edits from 10,000 ... at which point I (a) sprout wings ... or (b) a pointy tail. :) Proofreader77 (talk) 00:38, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

10, 9, 8, 7, 6 ... Ah, perhaps you're right—10,000 should be something on Polanski. lol Proofreader77 (talk) 00:58, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
9,999 (this one) ... Saving 10,000 for later. :) Cheers. Proofreader77 (talk) 01:02, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
lol 9,999 (again!) From time to time some edits will vanish (e.g., when you've left a template on a page to be deleted) ... and this edit is 9,999 again. lol No rush to post 10,000 ... the Polanski documentary should be in the mail tomorrow. Proofreader77 (talk) 06:42, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Had to waste 10,000 on kerfluffle :( Of course I may get another chance or three :) (see above).

Wings or tail? I think I feel things sprouting at both ends of my torso. LOL (Waiting for documentary) Proofreader77 (talk) 17:15, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

The attacks: ... as you may have guessed, are completely improper. But there are many ways to deal with impropriety. Often, ignoring, is appropriate ... If something else is required, there are formal procedures (but of course, life is short) Proofreader77 (talk) 01:35, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Roman Polanski: Wanted or and Desired

Thoughts:

  • Before seeing it, I had decided the documentary had been a horrible thing for Polanski — misleading his lawyers into trying to get the case dismissed all these many years later.
  • Before seeing it, I had decided the Judge had made a reasonable choice to try (however improperly) to get Polanski to have to leave the country.
  • Before seeing it, I thought the Wells brouhaha (whether he is lying now or then isn't the big deal made of it).
  • AFTER ... the honor/gumption of the 3 main lawyers (on all sides) is beautiful to behold. While Judge Rittenband is much much worse than I had imagined—and so no matter how much sense Polanski's deportation makes, as handled by the country-club judge, it was a horrifying act of judicial caprice.
  • AFTER ... The dissection of the panties! (shakes head)
  • BOTTOM LINE: (Much more that could be said but) ... Well, I surely needed to see the documentary. Now it's clear that much of the wrestling over some details is missing what's important completely. (Enough for now ... I see you' just left a message)

    P.S. The media is evil. (duh)Proofreader77 (talk) 01:23, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

re: Tent stake

The punishment of the plead crime was one of great sentencing latitude: 6 months to 50 years. The troops on the other side of the hill are flying a flag which reads 50 YEARS! Proofreader77 (talk) 02:57, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Quotes from W&D

re: ditties and bots, oh my!

  • ...balancing the equations of the universe, sometimes requires song. :)
  • re archiving - going ahead and setting bot parameters may be the way to go (although most of us don't get around to that for a long time lol). Proofreader77 (talk) 19:33, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

If you copy-paste the above at the top of your talk page, that will work. But there are many fancy options/styles. Cheers. Proofreader77 (talk) 19:40, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

re Sisyphean Sheriffs

) The world is so strange now satire will nearly fly right over a Wikipedian's fuzzy little head ... but I finally caught on. LOL Goodnight. Proofreader77 (talk) 07:22, 25 October 2009 (UTC)

re Weekend

It seems it is always What fresh hell is this? lol Proofreader77 (talk) 00:24, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Did I mention ...

... that no one carries on talk page conversations the way I have been doing. LOL ... But given the givens of the contentions of the moment, and not wanting to give any clues to the tribe with the tents on the other side of the hill, I've communicated as strangely, obliquely, and disjointedly in space-time as possible. :)

Re blogs: Clearly attention spans have shortened and Tweet-sized niblets are the way to go. Post something to a blog every year or so. :) (Lots of typing on Wikipedia talk pages it seems. Hmmmm ... I think there is not much money in that. Perhaps should consider reallocating efforts. :)

AND I hope the grass grows back from your 50-head of unwelcomes. :) Off to bed ... and give my new appendages their beauty sleep. ;) Proofreader77 (talk) 08:19, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

Bad comment vandal

Some comments rise to the level of reporting to the authorities. This one simply needed reverting. Could have been warned with a template, but seemed to be the only comment at the time (and I didn't have vandal software running at the moment, and wanted it gone quickly.) Proofreader77 (talk) 02:57, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Polanski and messages

Hi, it's ok. I see you and WookMuff have spoken. To leave a note saying there is a message on another page. Use this template. {{Talkback|name of user page|section header}}

Hello, Oberonfitch. You have new messages at Rossrs's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

The secrets of bots

I think the bot will not eat a topic if it has no replies. LOL (But it eats the newspaper delivery, so maybe I'm wrong.) Anyway ... if things don't start vanishing, you may need to clean up some of the unusual conversation structure someone inflicted on this page. lol Proofreader77 (talk) 04:50, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

LOL Apparently the bot eat topics whether responded to or not. Disregard above comment. [P.S. II think the "secret" is that the bot treats article talk pages and user talk pages differently: On article talk pages, topics which don't have a response are not archived, but on user talk pages.]Proofreader77 (talk) 16:22, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
PS We should probably figure out how to make your configuration automatically create the archive index list (otherwise you'll have to manually add archive links to the archive list—like I have to, because I was too lazy to figure out how to get all the automated things configured.) Proofreader77 (talk) 19:30, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
If I knew where the instructions were, I'd tell you. LOL ... The quick-dirty fix has been installed for now. (They will turn blue as if/when the bot gets to them.) Proofreader77 (talk) 22:10, 28 October 2009 (UTC)

re Polanski diffs

See if it's clearer. (Had left out important format) Proofreader77 (talk) 02:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Did that format change clear up all confusion? lol Proofreader77 (talk) 03:36, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
The gray was not changed. The black is the rewrite before/after. (Or is there another confusion, e.g., the ref-scope comment etc?) Proofreader77 (talk) 03:40, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
In case you are running out of fuel :) Proofreader77 (talk) 04:58, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Big wiki

Thank you, you too... respect to you, please stay around. Off2riorob (talk) 22:30, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Has a report been made? Off2riorob (talk) 00:40, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
There is no report that I can see here who is accusing you Tombaker? Off2riorob (talk) 00:42, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
There is no report, if I was you I would forget about it, let him file a report and see how it goes, a mention at ANI is worthless, not even worthy of a comment, if he wants to makes a report lets see his report, or forget about it, take the ani and the article of your watch list and watch him disappear, I have. Off2riorob (talk) 00:51, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Do me one thing, take ANI and 321 and polanski off your watch list, if anything important comes up I will let you know, the wiki is huge, I have found this type of action is magic. Off2riorob (talk) 00:53, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Just ignore him, he just may go away. Off2riorob (talk) 03:09, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Stories

Let me know when yours is finished. It sounds interesting. What genre will it be? ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:53, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Child of Midnight :-) I've been working on it for a few years, but as these things go, there was a missing element, now remedied. I would classify it as magical realism, but some may argue historical fiction. Of course, always happy to share. Nice to meet you, btw. And Happy Holidays. Oberonfitch (talk) 05:33, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
I had missed your response until this moment. How's it coming? Happy New Year! I'm going to party like it's 2010 ALL YEAR LONG!!! ChildofMidnight (talk) 04:23, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Things are going well, except for duck incident earlier today. (Comedy of errors...hit head...I have been told that I was not completely coherent immediately thereafter, lol.) Book is progressing, have added some interesting new material. As an aside, I noticed that you have worked on articles on landmarks in the Bend area; I have relations there who tell me it is absolutely beautiful. Happy New Year! May there be many pleasant moments in the year to come.  :) Oberonfitch (talk) 04:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
I had seen your response (this time), but a reminder never hurts! Thank you for your kind regards and I hope that 2010 is a great year for you aslo. I'm excited about it. Let me know when the book or a preview of it are available. Cheers. Happy New Year! ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:22, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

All new decade

A brand new canvas to enjoy, thanks Oberon, best wishes to you. Off2riorob (talk) 03:23, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for stopping by.

I understand there is controls to help stop that. To be perfectly clear, I am not opposed to naked people, I have a rather large collection of porn. However a rape victim is something else entirely, I know we don't know her name but that is a disgrace to humanity. I have attempted to even say that making people click a link to access that photo is preferable to having it freely displayed where kids can see it. SSCS

Awesome. It was split off and needs some TLC. I might have been assuming the worst with that other paragraph. A couple links really isn't something to get bent out of shape about.Cptnono (talk) 02:49, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

Of course. I am starting to pick up the ins and outs of Wikipedia and have combed through countless news pieces on the organization. Feel free to call me out if it looks like I am coming across overly critical of the group in the articles.Cptnono (talk) 03:15, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

SSCS

Go for it. I was thinking the lead might need to be redone sooner or later but not sure. Your edit makes sense.Cptnono (talk) 04:03, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah. It is god enough for now.Cptnono (talk) 04:45, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
There was some interview with Manowar years ago and they said the only reason to play live was to melt people's faces. I laugh whenever I hear melt now.Cptnono (talk) 08:22, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello Oberonfitch

Hello Oberonfitch! its me whales. i just got your message and i would be more than honored to join your group of editors in relation to sea shepherd articles. you are completely right that there needs to be some cleanupof information in these articles... especially since many articles pertaining to sea shepherd and its activities are very much open to (possibly malicious) editing by the entire "wikipedian" community. If theres anything that requires attention or that you'd like me to see so we could discuss improving [these articles] gramaticaal correctness, or restore the articles from malicious edits, Im all for it!

I try to trust people beleive me and i wholehartedly beleive in nuetrality in these articles (LIKE IT SHOULD BE). i do remember whenthe articles wernt altered by people, but when people saw "whale wars", they thought they were suddenly experts on the subject and then they decided to re-write history. all i was trying to do was restore the article to the way it was originally written... perhaps you could understand (ever been in an edit-war with a troll? thats what it feels like) i was just trying to clean out other (ignorant) peoples messes since this organization has got a really bad rap from the media just because theyre environtalists. i look forward to the day when wikipedia articles dont look like an ideologicl battle feild, i miss the times when i could have sworn the wikipedia staff wrote EVERY article. there used to be such quality... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whales are awesome (talkcontribs) 06:45, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

you have it all right. im glad we see eye to eye. if you would still like to ask me about some stuff sometime though i'll still be open. i'd sware you were an employee of SSCS! maybe you should consider that, you'd be a good writer for their news updates. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whales are awesome (talkcontribs) 06:49, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

SSCS and the Dalai Lama

Thanks for your comment. I just posted my concerns about how the Dalai Lama's support is described on the SSCS article talk page. My goals are accuracy, balance, and the neutral point of view. I seek to build consensus rather than grind any axes. In all honesty, I had barely heard about SSCS until about a week ago. I came to the article because Paul Watson is a former Sierra Club director, and I've done a lot of work on Sierra Club history. Best regards. Jim Heaphy (talk) 06:55, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Hey have a great time up there. Enjoy the water :-) Oberonfitch (talk) 04:22, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Nah man. I'm all sorts of sick right now. There is no time limit on so not a big deal. Just wait until Whale Wars season 3 comes out. That page is going to spike traffic wise.22:16, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

Lame. You too then. We'll get those paragraphs straightened out soon enough.Cptnono (talk) 00:05, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

Sleep well!

Am I looking at the talk page right? From what you just showed me I am against it since "terrorism" "piracy" "militancy" and all sorts of other meanness can still need to be in the lead somewhere. Part of this is based on WPLEAD and part of it is preventing people spamming TERRORISM ARGH randomly. Am I reading it wrong? Get back to me tomorrow on it!Cptnono (talk) 06:45, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

I would hate to see something removed and never added back in. Probably best to save the draft, move on, then insert it altogether.Cptnono (talk) 07:03, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
I'll revisit it later too. Maybe we can make a push to get it all wrapped up ASAP. Get some sleep.Cptnono (talk)
