Welcome[edit]

Hello Nowhere of things and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your contributions, such as the ones to Salah al-Bardawil, do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox (but beware that the contents of the sandbox are deleted frequently) rather than in articles.

If you still have questions, there is a Help desk, or you can click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Taking Out The Trash (talk) 14:39, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

October 2023[edit]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory content into an article or any other Wikipedia page again, as you did at Mohammed Deif, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Taking Out The Trash (talk) 14:39, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please can you explain on how better should I add that he is considered as a terrorist by many?

Recent edit reversion[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. ~~~~ S Philbrick(Talk) 17:45, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Rawhi Mushtaha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://ecfr.eu/special/mapping_palestinian_politics/rawhi_mushtaha/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Contested speedy deletion. Please review. Nowhere of things (talk) 18:39, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The entirety of the article was originally copied verbatim. Altering it still results in a derivative work and remains a copyright violation as the original source is copyrighted. You must write the article in your own words from the start. See the message below for more information about Wikipedia's copyright policy and guidelines. -- Whpq (talk) 00:52, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dear whpq, I ask you to please reverse deletion. There was no copyright violation as the information provided was open source and paraphrased and due to the nature of having limited data on the person apart from given sources, due to the person's militant nature, changing the article too much would have been a misrepresentation of reality as most people may understand it.
Please review, and if possible propose alternative text. Request of deletion this fast even after express contention seems to be a bit politically charged.
Thank you! Nowhere of things (talk) 12:43, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Open source does not mean it can be copied to Wikipedia. See WP:COMPLIC for a list of compatible copyright licenses. Close paraphrasing, as you did, still counts as a copyright violation, you have to rewrite in your own words. If there's not enough information on the person, then that might mean that person is not notable enough for an article. Consider adding him to an existing article instead. This request for deletion was in no way politically motivated. Your article was found during routine new page patrolling, and copyright problems can be immediately tagged, without waiting the usual 1 hour grace period for new articles. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:37, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The article from which you copied the material has no indication that it is open source. Even if it were open source, that does not mean it is license compatible with Wikipedia. I saw no statement indicating open source, and no statement providing a license that is acceptable to Wikipedia. Material is copyright by default. I cannot restore copyright violations. -- Whpq (talk) 17:41, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Nowhere of things! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 00:52, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Dan,
Please revoke this deletion request. Page has been modified. If you'd like to add to it, instead of taking away the work put in it please indicate directly on the talk page that it needs to be modified.
Now, its form it should not be considered as a copyright violation.
Please confirm receipt of this message. Nowhere of things (talk) 12:51, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
this hasn't been reacted to, and a modification was done. Furthermore, the same reasoning used elsewhere was declined (copyright), as the information used was not copyrighted.
Please can you help? Nowhere of things (talk) 15:16, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The page was deleted by ToBeFree per WP:G5 and WP:A/I/PIA; it was not deleted as a copyright infringement.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That wasn't the original indication. I understand that this was an issue elsewhere too though. Nowhere of things (talk) 16:19, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry, I hadn't noticed that this was about one of the pages I had deleted, or I might have answered this. The administrator Spicy had seen the deletion request and declined it with the following edit summary:

Undid revision 1182439806 by Dan arndt (talk) "Unless a copyright is indicated, information on State Department websites is in the public domain and may be copied and distributed without permission."

Thus, while the page was indeed deleted, your statement that it "should not be considered as a copyright violation" appears to be correct. Sorry for the confusion caused by me deleting it without answering the message above. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 16:21, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Hi Nowhere of things, your recent contributions seem to be incompatible with the "500 edits" restriction mentioned above. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:02, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page Muhammad Isma’il Abu Ghazala has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done for the following reason:

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please revert this deletion. I was not notified of being sanctioned, and this was a legitimate creation of work. I have put hours into this and did not receive warning! The creation was legit. @ToBeFree Nowhere of things (talk) 19:23, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Nowhere of things, I'm not blaming you for not knowing about this restriction, but I won't restore the page either. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ToBeFree, I have appealed the decision. I don't think that in this case it was appropriate, and that WP:A/I/PIA rules apply, since the creation was of good faith, and was legitimate. If one is an expert in a hot topic, but has no edits, how one can achieve the 500 edits before in order to use their expertise for the benefit of manking? It doesn't make sense. Nowhere of things (talk) 19:42, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The Task Center and the community portal are full of constructive ideas unrelated to this topic area. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:45, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You still haven't addressed the issue WP:G5: ? Can you help clarify that please? Nowhere of things (talk) 13:06, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Non-extended-confirmed users are banned from editing about the Arab-Israeli conflict directly (WP:A/I/PIA), and your page creation was a violation of that ban – you didn't know about it, but this isn't a requirement for page deletion. WP:ARBECR explicitly allows the deletion of such pages, WP:G5 arguably does too. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:22, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Once I get the 500 edits, can I ask you to revoke the deletion? Nowhere of things (talk) 15:25, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would probably either restore the page or provide the text of the deleted page to you so you could create it again, yes. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 15:29, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Will be in touch here. Nowhere of things (talk) 15:30, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I have reached a global edit count of 500. Because my native tongue is Hungarian, most edits were done there. Or it has to be in one language? Nowhere of things (talk) 14:37, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Nowhere of things: Hi, it has to be on one language. English, in this case. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:03, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your answer. Just to clarify, I have to have 500 in one language. Or 500 in English? Thanks again. Nowhere of things (talk) 17:51, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
500 edits on a single Wikipedia, so in this case, English. You can check how many you currently have on the English Wikipedia by going to Special:Contributions/Nowhere of things. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 17:55, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry, and really not trying to not pick here, but what you are saying is that for me to edit in English these topics, I need 500 edits in English? Reason I am asking, is because I have started a whole project, that was then erased based on this rule, and I want to restart it as soon as possible.
Thanks again! Nowhere of things (talk) 19:26, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
500 edits on the site where the url starts with en.wikipedia.org. Since this is the English wikipedia, and (I believe) you want the extended confirmed level on the English wikipedia, yes in English. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:50, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, Muhammad Hisham Muhammad Isma'il Abu Ghazala, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) It is currently not clear that the subject of the article meets Wikipediaks requirements for notability. I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
