Confederated Tribes of Siletz[edit]

Hi, thanks for your work on that article. I've been trying to get around helping with all the tribal articles in Oregon but unfortunately I haven't had time to do that one. I'm not Native American, but I understand how tribal history is marginalized in favor of white history, so I'm glad to see a tribal member working on the article. I'm sure you're aware of the Siletz (tribe) and Chinook Winds Casino articles, which both could use some work as well, if you have the time and inclination. I think it's important to have three separate articles, so it would be good to fill out the casino article to address the concerns of the editor who wanted to merge it. I hope you don't mind if I do some copyediting of the Siletz article, I'm thinking especially about removing the redlinks to the names of the tribal council members, most of whom are probably not notable enough to merit their own articles. You can read about notability here: WP:NOTE, to see if any of them meet the criteria. Most people think my edits are helpful, hopefully you will too.   • You're most welcome. I'm still thinking about how I want to go about adding content to these three pages. As each one could almost be a book in and of itself. There is a lot of work that needs to be done, there was a lot of inacuarate information as well, which might even come into question later down the road. As you said most of history favors those that come out on top, so the tribal side won't have as many, if any at all, refrences, unlike the other side of the story. I need to brush up on my wiki-rules about what's wanted and/or needed in entries. I'm fairly new to wikipedia but I've done work in the wiki format for another company Neversoft, on their internal wiki site. I agree with you on the council names, although there may be a couple, in the future, that probably deserve their own.   • Curious, what is the general feeling on wikipedia about adding actual language to the site? I assume that it's frowned on? I'd love to see my language up for future generations and other people to enjoy.   • Glad I could help. And of course there are at least *four* articles touching on this, including Siletz Reservation. By the way, is that the preferred form for the name? Someone had recently changed it to "Siltez Indian Reservation", which is technically correct, but I was pretty sure it was simply Siletz Reservation despite what the Census Bureau might say... I don't know much about the language thing, but often with the tribal articles there is also a linguistic section or a separate article. If you check out Category:Native American tribes in Oregon you can see what's available for each tribe--most of these seem to be under a "see also", for example Tolowa language linked from Tolowa. (Looks like we should add a category for native languages of Oregon to make these easier to find.) Most of these are stubs and personally I think adding actual language would be a very good thing. For more a complete article, see Alsean languages, which lists particulars of the language. You might want to check in with the linguistics folks about what is considered appropriate. Welcome to the Oregon WikiProject![edit]

Thanks for signing up on our roster. User:Katr67, our regular unofficial greeter and all-around majordomo is away for the holidays, so I thought I'd fill in by extending a warm welcome. I've only been active on the project for a about two months myself, but have found the group to be friendly and cooperative, and happy to see just about any individual effort undertaken which improves the scope or quality of Oregon-related articles on Wikipedia. In addition to my own editing and writing, I am happy to do lookups for others in the newspaper archive databases. Nope. I'm in The Dalles, and the local library's microfilm holdings are limited to the Oregonian and the Wasco, Sherman and Hood River county papers. I think the Multnomah County Public Library has the Statesman to pre-statehood editions, but it could be some time before I make it over there to check. If you don't mind waiting up to a month for my next Portland trip, let me know the particulars, and I'll spend some time at the microfilm viewer. It's not entirely an altruistic offer. I remember them citing the Statesman for a lot of stuff and it'd be nice to get a little more of an idea about the articles and other things left out. Oregonian was established as a weekly in 1850. The Spectator (Oregon City) four years earlier, but to be honest, I've never looked to see if it is available at the Multnomah County library. Might have to hit the state library or the Oregon Historical Society for that one. And it's not all that far out of my way, because I should be checking these sources for my work on the Oregon Government and Politics workgroup anyway. -- "J-M" (Jgilhousen) 09:04, 25 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User group for Military Historians[edit]

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki.
