KWTR

I've been trying to build articles for recently deleted stations before their online FCC history is lost to the great bit bucket. I'm so glad I did for KWTR else I never would have found this passage in a letter from the Commission to the station about a petition to deny: "Warren states that preparations were made to return the station to the air pursuant to the STA on August 17, 2004, but that while working at the authorized site he was informed that the area was possibly still infested with “killer bees” which had just killed one man and hospitalized two others. The crew, he continues, was unwilling to install the antenna system during the day and, consequently, Warren himself erected a temporary metal pole at the proper height, installed the SWR 2-Bay antenna that evening, and returned the station to the air at 7:07 p.m."

Yes, killer bees! And this station was taken out at various times by lightning, landlords, utilities, and a giant pile of financial problems. Drama! - Dravecky (talk) 20:39, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

OK, first of all, that is an impressively-referenced piece of work for a dead station. Slow clap. Second, what a litany of maladies. Finally, all I can think in reading through that article is that the license probably never should have been granted in the first place.

The really sad part is that the article is likely destined for life as an orphan. All of the normal lists and dab pages are for the current picture. Unless there's a market template to which we can add a section for defunct stations, the incoming link from this talk page might be the only one it attracts. (talk page stalker) I took at a look at KWTR's former community of license on a map and they are dead between San Angelo and Odessa, but just a teeny bit closer to San Angelo, so I added the station (in a new "Defunct stations" field) to the San Angelo radio market template and added that to the page. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 05:30, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Actually, when I was deleting the redlinks for this station yesterday, the Odessa-Midland template was the one I hit. The text in the article seems to support that too. Mlaffs (talk) 15:15, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

When I was looking at the map, I "flipped" a coin in my head and it came up San Angelo (plus it was slightly closer), but either/or works. If you haven't already, I will move the KWTR entry to the Midland/Odessa template. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 18:30, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Update: an Oregon station has adopted the KWTR call sign so it's now at KWTR (FM) and the defunct Texas station is as KWTR (defunct) with all of the appropriate pages and templates updated. - Dravecky (talk) 08:41, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Mlaffs. Since you moved WDBO to a new title and then created a disambiguation page over the old title, I hope you will help to WP:FIXDABLINKS by reviewing all the existing Wikipedia articles that contain links to "WDBO" and fix them to link to the correct article. I always do, Russ. I was at the office, and I was waiting for the four templates that had been updated to clear through the system, so that I didn't sit there clicking on a pile of articles that didn't actually contain any links apart from the template. WQQQ

Quick question... WQQQ is a co-broadcaster for WSHU-FM. How is it not an NPR station? Best, Markvs88 (talk) 23:28, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Is it actually a full co-broadcaster, or just an O&O? My guess would be that it's similar to WYBC, which is O&O by WSHU-FM, but doesn't carry the same programming. So, it's a public radio station, but it carries PRI and APMNET programming rather than NPR.

Otherwise, I really can't say for sure. There's nothing on WQQQ's website that gives any suggestion of an affiliation with NPR. NPR also has a very complete affiliate list on their website that's current to October 2011, and WQQQ is not included. All that leads me to conclude that there's no affiliation.

Needless to say, if there's something reliable out there indicating to the contrary, happy to self-revert. Mlaffs (talk) 04:18, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I am certainly no expert on the matter, but they do announce "We're WSHU at 91.1 on your FM dial in Fairfield, WQQQ at 103.3FM in Sharon, and..." when they do their station annoucements on WSHU. They play Marketplace and at least some of the other programs simultaneously, but I don't listen to WQQQ because I'm all of 5 miles away from WSHU. I found this [[1]], does that have an answer?
