University of South Florida Fraternity[edit]

This is in response to the edit 00:25, 21 December 2006 Mike Halterman (Talk | contribs) (→Fraternities - (removing another non-purely-social fraternity

According to the Phi Mu Alpha's national website at [Sinfonia.org]:

"Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was born on October 6, 1898 at the New England Conservatory in Boston, when a group of thirteen young men under the guidance of Ossian Everett Mills met “to consider the social life of the young men students of that institution” and “to devise ways and means by which it might be improved.”"

and furthermore

"The minutes of the first meeting on October 6, 1898 stated:
-Mr. Wade was appointed chairman. Report of comm. on suggestions as to what the club should do with itself, was accepted.
-Noted that a club be organized, to which shall be eligible, any male student of the N. E. C.
-Noted that the primary object of the club be sociability." —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.185.203.97 (talk) 07:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Image:Tombrokaw.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tombrokaw.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Chowbok 19:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Daytime TV article[edit]

Actually, I just went to the article and made corrections, but thanks for the message anyway. Robert Moore 20:40, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You guys are so confused. I recently moved to Jax from California. I originate from Connecticut. I have a 14 year old daughter and there is no way in hell I will send her to that school. The point is that no matter what the reason for naming this school after this guy, the fact remains he was involved with the KKK and a public, federally funded school thinks its o.k. in 2007 to name a school after someone with that in their background. If I was a black student there I would be ashamed of myself for attending. I would deny going there. What shocks me is that it still is named after him. In order for my daughter not to go, I lied about our address and even got a friend to notarize a statement saying I live with them just so my child could attend another school. Thats how far and then some I am willing to go because no way in HELL am I going to condone the namesake of the school by having her go there regardlsess of school codes and Board of Education rules. If more people in the area felt as strongly as I do, that school wouldn't be carrying that name now. What NEEDS to be done is tear the school down, erect a new and improved campus, named after a positive role model who believed in the rights of all races and in peace not war. This makes it clear how Loooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggggggg of a way we have to go with racism in this country and just how acceptable and blatant it really is. Its 2007 people! We ought not have a public, federally funded school named after a member of the KKK. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Nathan B. Forrest High School[edit]

your welcome. i feel that some of the things you wrote are incorrect. i am black and i graduated from forrest last year. the school was not named after him becuase he was the founder of the Klu Klux. it was named after him becuase he fought for the south aswell as Robert E. Lee and other generals. i wish you would stop saying it was named after him becuase he was the founder becuase it brings shame to people. ecspecially blacks. Nathan Bedford Forrest stood up for the black people and tried to end something he didnt want to be taken far. he actually tried to stop or break up the Klu Klux. he did all he could and people should know that. thats why i edited the story. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.177.135.195 (talk) 21:11, 7 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

it says, clear as day, that it is named after Nathan Bedford Forrest, the first Grand Wizard of the KKK. it shoud say it was named after Nathan Bedford Forrest, a mighty general who fought for the south during the civil war. then it should metion the FULL part of him being associated with the KKK. If the story is not revised by Sunday Dec 10, 2006 then im going to reedit it. point blank.

Maybe you dont understand what im trying to say. when people read your article saying it is named after the founder of the KKK it offends people. escpecially blacks. Nathan B. Forrest High School is named after the civil war general. not becuase he had something to do with the KKK. If you are not from Jacksonville and didnt attend Nathan B. Forrest High School then dont speak on it. The school is mostly black and saying it was named after a KKK member is totaly wrong. So please stop offending people by your incorrect statements.

Well im just letting you know. i am black and i currently attend Forrest High. and when i read your bogus article about how a predominately black high school is named after a KKK member is VERY offensive. you need to change it to what is right. it was named after the civil war general who later on happened to be elected as the first grand wizard of the KKK.

Eartha White[edit]

since no one wanted to post an article about her. i took it upon myself to do so. i ask that you would not edit and flip the article around. when you edited the article that i put to gether you erased some information about Eartha and what she was about. i wish you would not do that. i dont mind if you edit the subtopics but dont go around deleting and making your own changes when you didnt gather the information yourself to begin with. if you wanted the article to be set up how you did it then you shuld have started her article. if you erase the content that i put together you will be reported for vandalism. thank you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by YoungCorey (talkcontribs) 21:04, 8 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

And you will be reported for plagarism. Mike Halterman did not edit the Eartha White article, so there is no need to post such nonsense on his talk page. The Eartha White article is not your own. TAnthony/RFC[edit]

Thanks for the notification,I did see it. I'm not going to get involved unless I'm contacted; I don't want to antagonize Yrgh any further. I'm not worried about it, because I feel like this thing is over and anyone looking into this can see that. I don't understand why he won't let it go, but he's hurting his own reputation more than he is mine. Thanks again. TAnthony 04:19, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just out of curiosity, were the concerns about the name the ones mentioned on my talk page and the military brat talk pages? Or has somebody brought the name of the article up for discussion elsewhere? EG an RfC? As for notifying you when I put it up for FA... will do. It'll probably be a few weeks, but it is definately one of my plans. Balloonman 14:59, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Yrgh[edit]

Can we ban him yet?!?! I'm sooo sick of reverting everything he does, and sometimes I don't revert because I know he'll just revert back and then we'll reach the 3RR and I might get in trouble (because SOME of it isn't against the rules per se, but just looks incredibly bad.) I really don't have a personal issue with him, I'm sick of his edits and having to revert them! Juppiter 18:28, 26 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Right...I was a bit suspicious about how one person could be such an apparent polymath. Now I think I know how: Compare the recent edits to Illuminati with the text of Myron Fagan's The Illuminati and the Council on Foreign Relations. Here at least he is copying the text verbatim with no indication that he is doing so. I have been under the impression till now that this is not acceptable. ??? --SandChigger 12:49, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note & taking action; I'd noticed already.
A tangentially related question: How long does one have to be a registered user and how many edits/new pages racked up before applying for an admin'ship? (I'm not interested, but it crossed my mind that someone might be.) --SandChigger 01:07, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just saw your comment. I had noticed his/her return; lots of reverts. (I didn't bother to count, but Yrgh and Juppiter seemed to be verging on a 3RR violation on Donna Swajeski.)

The predictable is, to me, essentially boring, so I've taken Yrgh's user page off my watchlist. This is just a secondary, special purpose account and my range of interests when using it does not extend to soap operas and gay porn stars. But do let me know if you decide to pursue an RfC or other administrative action. Good luck fighting the good fight. --SandChigger 04:02, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, me again. Sorry to be wishy-washy, but I've changed my mind a bit. He's still acting out of vendetta against Juppiter, not following protocol, and doesn't seem to have learned anything from the recent temporary ban. (This is particularly rich, considering why you banned him. Note the unsigned comment, another trademark.) Maybe a longer ban is in order? --SandChigger 02:29, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried the "show preview" button?[edit]

In looking at your contributions history, I notice that virtually all the last 100 edits were on a single article; others have pointed out that using the "show preview" button for checking edits of just a few words is a good approach that keeps the page history from becoming unnecessarily cluttered. Just thought I'd pass on the tip, for what it's worth. Lawikitejana 09:02, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Military brat[edit]

Well, somebody beat me to the category of military brat, but I went through last night and updated all of the brats on the List of famous military brats to have the category on their page. Well, the category has already been nominated for deletion. The reasoning is because it is a "non-neutral" term and parental occupation is irrelevant. Thus, I'm letting people who have contributed to the Military brat article know so that they can support keeping the category. If you meant well in your post to Coronation Street, I am sorry for posting that warning. The way you worded that phrase made it sound like vandalism. But again I am sorry. American Brit 22:39, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mike. I too thought about adding the information about Crossroads to the Coronation Street article, but I decided not to as I do not think it adds all that much to the article. I believe it important to speak of Crossroads as the only real 'rival' soap at the time, and would suggest cutting it down to a short sentence such as "Crossroads, an ITV daytime soap, saw a marked increase in viewer number at this time." I don't see the relevance since Crossroads was a daytime soap and Coronation Street was primetime - there was no competition within timeslots and any increase in viewers may well be unlinked. Ben 22:53, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Crossroads[edit]

In the context of this article, no...well yes...I'm not sure! Ha! I'm concerned at the length of the article, that's all. Sentences here and there don't really matter all that much, but I do like things to be concise. How about - "Crossroads, an ITV daytime soap, saw a marked increase in viewer number at this time, possibly due to its established characters, such as Meg Richardson (Noele Gordon) growing in popularity." A very Californian RfA thanks from Luna Santin[edit]

Thanks for your support in my not-so-recent RfA, which succeeded with a final tally of (97/4/4)! I've never been able to accept compliments gracefully, and the heavy support from this outstanding community left me at a complete loss for words -- so, a very belated thank you for all of your kind words.

I have done and will continue to do the utmost to serve the community in this new capacity, wherever it may take me, and to set an example others might wish to follow in. With a little luck and a lot of advice, this may be enough. Maybe someday the enwiki admins of the future will look back and say, "Yeah, that guy was an admin." Hopefully then they don't start talking about the explosive ArbComm case I got tied into and oh what a drama that was, but we'll see, won't we?

Surely some of you have seen me in action by now; with that in mind, I openly invite and welcome any feedback here or here -- help me become the best editor and sysop I can be.

Again, thank you. –Luna Santin
Man, I'm so late with this, but still my entire wiki "career" is hardly a drop in the bucket, compared to yours. ;) In addition to this thanks for your support of my candidacy, thank you for all that you've done for the wiki, in these years. Luna Santin 13:13, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just discovered this edit of yours, [2]. I know you offered a retraction of sorts but I wanted to let you know that sort of comment isn't really useful on Wikipedia. Sorry, I'm not a big IRC guy (I used to be but had to get away from it ;-) . Do you Skype? (Netscott) 04:18, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mike, I try to keep my Wiki related communications on Wiki in the interest of transparency. I'm not currently in a position where I can make a voice call. If your privacy is that important to you then I suggest you pop me some wiki - e-mail and we discuss it that way. (Netscott) 04:24, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Steve Stanton -- source for wife's surname?[edit]

Can you provide a citation for the source of Steve Stanton's wife's surname, which you gave as Becker? The current citation there gives only her first name (Donna), but no last name. Thanks. --Yksin 04:11, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. -- Yksin 04:21, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

question[edit]

Would you like to join Conservapedia as a editor? Conservapedia is looking for good editors and Admins. Please send me your email if you want to join Conservapedia. If you feel reticient about giving out your email address you can simply create a new account at hotmail and yahoo so you don't risk getting a lot of junk mail. Ga. Tech[edit]

I have no idea how that happened -- I was deleting a long list of cross-space redirects that another user had tagged. I do not remember the Ga Tech article being on there, and it doesn't show that the user who tagged the redirects edited it. But there I am on the deletion log. Again, I have no clue how this happened, but I apologize. NawlinWiki 19:40, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coronation Street - FA?[edit]

Hey Mike, how's it going? Just thought I'd get in touch because I am starting to feel that Coronation Street could go up for an FA nomination. Any thoughts or suggestions you have would be very much appreciated! Ben 01:24, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Age category[edit]

Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:

If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 13:13, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Coronation Street - Featured Article Candidate[edit]

I thought I'd let you know that I have put Coronation Street forward as a FAC, hopefully it will be promoted back to FA status. Why not pop along to the FAC page and have a look? Ben 14:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Today's the day![edit]

Hey there! I was thinking of you today - as I trundled off to get the Season 1 "Maude" DVD......I'm sure you got it, too? NickBurns 02:25, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I had the dough to buy an extra set...I only bought these 'cause my birthday was last week and I had gift cards. It's a shame we can't copy DVD's, but I suppose that's the point. Anyway, Borders had it awfully cheaply ($22.99)....NickBurns 12:17, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA[edit]

  • Thanks for the support position. However, I've decided to withdraw my acceptance because of real WP:CIVIL concerns. I will try again later when I've proven to myself and others that my anger will no longer interfere with my abilities as a Wikipedia editor. Thanks again, and I'll see you around here shortly. :) JuJube 04:32, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
