The Man of Gold

Hi there! Great work on The Man of Gold article! I started that one based on one review I found and it has now grown significantly from out of a stub. I do not know if you are interested in the related topics of M.A.R. Yes, I'll see what I can do, although I can't promise anything. I've been a pulp fan since a ten-year-old, so I might know a thing or two. By the way, English is not my native so (assuming it is your's) I'd appreciate if you could check my ramblings every now and then. I have an awkward tendency to pen in a faux-old style and it cannot be helped as such prose comes to me naturally; that's what you get when you learn a language from books older than your grandma. I used to play Empire of the Petal Throne a lot. It's a terrific game, probably my favorite ″kill monsters and become a hero″ type of RPG. So I suppose the games are the main attraction, but I do find Barker's other endeavors moderately interesting as well. Sadly, there are very few secondary sources about Barker and Tékumel. There are lots of forum posts and blogs by his former associates and friends, but I'm not sure whether these count as "reliable sources". --Miihkali (talk) 22:03, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Yes, you are right, sources can be hard to find. Along with the Man of Gold novel article, I also created several other articles for gaming items reviewed in the same issue of Space Gamer; most of the articles are still in existence, but The Journal of Tékumel Affairs[1] was redirected after an AFD; if there was sufficient sourcing found, it could be restored though. Aside from the main EPT article, there are several other articles regarding his RPG work if you are interested in seeing what you might want to do with them. If you wanted to do more work on his novels, like Flamesong or the later ones Lords of Tsámra, Prince of Skulls, and A Death of Kings, there may be more sources out there to build those up as well. I am somewhat sceptical about the three later Barker novels. They are hard to come by, so I don't own them nor have I read them. They were only printed in very small quantities (150 or so) by an indie publisher owned by a friend of Barker's, so I'm not sure whether they meet the Wikipedia standards of notability. I'll try to locate some extra info about Empire of the Petal Throne and Swords & Glory. I own both and I think somewhere in the web there is an extensive Barker interview about the latter. I could also try to mine the Blue Room (a Tékumel mailing list) archives; Barker was very active there. It's been years since I read through them but my impression is that he was pretty open and honest about a great many of things. --Miihkali (talk) 17:20, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
