as one of the admins here specializing in trying to rescue new articles, let me deal with the questions you have about this.

The first problem is whether the subject is notable. This requires references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. Notability here would either be as an actor, a producer, or a businessman. (or of course more than one). The criteria for actors are at WP:ENT. The subject is described as a character actor, and has not apparently had leading roles in any film, except for individual TV episodes. What counts as "significant" roles in such cases depends upon whether there is significant discussion in reviews and other sources. Apparently reviews are in the Variety archives, but it will be necessary to give the date in which they appeared for each review, and the exact title and author and page number of each review, so they can be found in the print and microfilm editions. I'd say notability here is possible, but not certain.

As a producer, the problem is that he is rarely credited as a producer--apparently he mainly financed films. A production may involve financing from many individuals, and it would be necessary to be specific about his actual role, and show it in independently published sources. The only source I can find is the page on the web site of his collaborator, http://www.henryjaglom.com/. It is not sufficient.

As a businessman, notability would be as the CEO of American Entertainment Holding. As a private company, I cannot find any significant sources besides the uninformative bloomberg page and the Literal media website. If the company is important, it will surely be referred to in the press. The only article I can find, is http://www.radaronline.com/category/tags/american-entertainment-holding-company.

the second problem is that the article must look like a WP article, not a press release. The present article reads like a press release. It mentions his name as often as possible, goes into unverifiable detail about his childhood, and magnifies his significance in the various films and projects way beyond what seems to be justified by the sources.

The third problem is that most of the article reads it was copied from some other source. (i haven't found it, yet) but we do not ever do that. It would account for looking like a press release or autobiography. Any ,material taken from another source and not used as direct quotation must be completely rewritten.

The fourth problem is the referencing. Some things need better referencing: that he financed a film must be shown in each case by a published third party source that says it--not just a link to the imdb entry for the film which does not. A published source is also needed for the connection bwteeen his real name and his stage name.

The fifth problem is the writing. His early life and business venture should have much less emphasis. The discussion of his not all that important career as a collector needs omission, Throughout, the general tone is much too personal, Include only material that would be of interest to a general reader coming across the mention of the subject and wanting the sort of information that would be found in an encyclopedia. Do not include material that would be of interest only to those associated with the subject, or to a fan.

As a general rule, a suitable page will be best written by someone without Conflict of Interest; it's not impossible to do it properly with a conflict of interest or as a paid press agent, but it's relatively more difficult: you are automatically thinking in terms of what the subject wishes to communicate to the public, but an uninvolved person will think in terms of what the public might wish to know. And keep in mind that the goal of an encyclopedia is to say things in a concise manner, which is not the style of press releases or web sites, which are usually more expansive.

If you think you can do it right according to our guidelines, try again, aiming at an article perhaps one-fifth the length, but expect the article to be carefully checked for objectivity. You addressed and cleared up a lot of my confusion, providing me with much of the insight I so desperately sought. I really want to do this right, and am determined to have the article published on WP, and very much appreciate your help. Upon reading your notes and recommendations, however, I now have several more specific questions and ideas I wanted to run by you before proceeding with my revisions on the article itself. But before going into these in detail, I wanted to ask if it would even be alright for me to do so, so please let me know at your earliest convenience. In the meantime, let me just assure you that the article was definitely NOT copied from some other source, so you can stop looking: I wrote it all myself, every word, except for the few obvious quotations I clearly attributed to their rightful authors to the best of my ability at the time … although of course I now realize I need to be more specific with these references, i.e.: giving exact dates of the publication/journal issues in which they appeared, including actual page numbers etc. (a fairly straightforward task, I imagine; time-consuming, certainly, but doable nonetheless! ) As for Zack Norman’s notability: of this there is no question, though I understand your current reservations. His starring roles in major Hollywood Studio releases such as Romancing the Stone and Cadillac Man alone should attest to this (which my article did clearly reference through imdb.com with links to cast credits connecting Mr. Norman directly to the name of the character he played in the order in which the credits originally appeared on the screen; is this not reference enough?) I promise you my next draft of the article will be much more clinical and objective, with a far more exhaustive list of references sources, for example clearly proving that Zack Norman and Howard J. Zuker are one and the same. But what truly makes this person notable is the unconventional path his career has taken: from stand-up comedy to real estate to movie financing and acting etc.: almost every day I uncover some new piece of information on him – in fact, just today I stumbled on this credit sequence from a 1974 Canadian film release called To Kill The King on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpyLg3LAWWg&feature=youtube_gdata_player), which clearly cites Howard J. Zuker as producer, and which I am told is the first instance of a movie being shot on videotape then transferred to 35mm film for theatrical release. As obscure as this fact may seem, if it is indeed true (and I can find a way to prove that through a source acceptable to WP) this is certainly an item of significant interest in the overall history of cinematic technology, wouldn’t you agree? But anyway, I didn’t mean to go on at such length, at least not at this time, and again appreciate and thank you very much for your time and consideration. Look forward to hearing from you! Hi, Ukexpat! Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. I'm not sure exactly what it is I deleted, so here is all the relevant correspondence regarding the article i could find, beginning with my most recent letter to the Teahouse:

Dear friends at the Teahouse – I contacted you a couple months back regarding my Wikipedia article on actor Zack Norman, with which I was (and still am) having difficulties getting accepted by your editors. At that time the primary issue was that I was using the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com) as a reference to verify many of the article’s claims, as I was unaware that Wikipedia did not consider the Imdb to be a reliable source. Once you informed me of that fact, I then asked the Teahouse whether the New York Times was a reliable source, and you informed me that yes, it was. So I switched all the reference footnotes from Imdb to New York Times and resubmitted the article, only to be rejected once again by the (new) editor checking the article, who claimed my New York Times sources weren’t valid. As you can imagine, I am at a bit of loss here: on the one hand I have Wikipedia associates telling me one thing, only to have the next associate tell me it isn’t so. It seems we all need to get on the same page here. Another problem is that the editors rejecting my article all seem to have an issue with whether or not the subject Zack Norman is “noteworthy”, which I truly do not understand. If you look up any of the over 30 movies that he has been in, say Romancing The Stone, Cadillac Man or Festival in Cannes, nearly all the other actors – even those credited well below Mr. Norman – have their own Wikipedia articles, most of them citing barely any references at all.

By the way, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m a writer who is interested in becoming an actively contributing author and editor on Wikipedia, and chose Zack Norman as the subject for my first article for submission simply because I feel he is noteworthy and is not yet on Wikipedia. I had no idea the process would become this involved, though I am still willing to do whatever it takes to have an article accepted for publication, so your advice on how to proceed is, as ever, greatly appreciated!

The general notability guideline requires significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. None of the sources you've provided are "significant coverage" of Mr. Norman; the only one that is even about him (that I saw) is the Variety article about the ads he bought. Dear Darkwind, regarding my Wikipedia article on actor Zack Norman, a couple months ago I asked the Teahouse (as well as Wikipedia editor Sarah Stierch, who had rejected my article before you), whether the New York Times was a reliable source, and they informed me that yes, it was. Zack Norman (born Howard Jerrold Zuker, May 27, 1940, in Boston, MA) is an American actor, producer, writer, comedian, musician and film financier. Best known for his role as Ira in 20th Century Fox’s Romancing the Stone (1984)[1] and as Kaz Naiman in Paramount Classics’ Festival In Cannes (2002)[2], he has also co-starred in films such as Ragtime (1981) and Cadillac Man (1990)[3]. On television, he has guest-starred in such popular series as The A-Team (1985) and Baywatch (1993), had a recurring role on The Nanny (1993 - 1995)[4] and was featured in several TV movies including At Home with the Webbers (1993)[5]. As Howard Zuker, he has produced, presented and/or financed more than forty motion pictures, including Hearts And Minds (1974)[6], which won the Academy Award® for Best Documentary Feature[7]. His most recent release is the Romantic Comedy Overnight (2012)[8]. Early Life

Zack was born Howard Jerrold Zuker in Boston, MA, the first child of Sydney (1910-1980) and Evelyn Bloomberg (1914-2005) Zuker. He grew up in Revere, MA and began studying the drums at age 9, starting his own band. At age 12, while in Junior High School, he made his television debut on a local Boston program in April, 1953. Zack attended Governor’s Academy in Byfield, Massachusetts and went on to study theater at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, appearing in a number of plays while continuing to work gigs as a drummer in the Printers Alley section of Nashville. He then moved to New York to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and privately with Sanford Meisner. On the side, Zack worked such odd jobs as hat check boy at the 21 Club, maitre d’ at Paddy’s Clam House on 34th Street, and demonstrating pogo sticks for Macy’s Department Store at Christmas. During this period, Zack also began working as a stand-up comedian in strip joints and nightclubs while producing his first Off-Broadway play, the New York premiere of John Arden’s Live Like Pigs[10], which opened on June 7, 1965. In 1966 he left for Europe to work the U.S. Army Base Circuit operating out of Frankfurt, Germany, playing army clubs throughout Western Europe. On June 7, 1967, Zack opened at the Playboy Club in London, England, where Variety wrote he was “hysterical … one of the funniest guys ever to cross these shores”[11]. Soon he was starring in every Playboy Club in their 18-venue circuit, as well as appearing in major hotels and nightclubs such as The Flamingo in Las Vegas and New York’s legendary Copacabana with The Temptations. Zack made his debut on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on April 28, 1969[12]. As a stage actor, he starred in more than 20 plays. His performance in the title role of Bertolt Brecht’s The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Connecticut Center for the Arts in Stanford, CT (1980) was critically acclaimed[13]. Motion Pictures

Zack created his first movie opportunities ( as producer, actor and financier) in May of 1969 at the Cannes International Film Festival. Using a film fund financed by Boston Real Estate Developers (Zack had attracted them by repackaging real estate tax incentives for motion picture investment), he put together the Italian-made Which Way Do You Dig? (a/k/a Dark of the Day / And The Bombs Keep Falling / I Cannoni Tuonano Ancora)[14], in which he also co-starred alongside Spaghetti Western actor Robert Woods[15]. Over the course of his career, Zack would go on to act in, produce, and finance scores of movies, raising in excess of $100,000,000 for motion picture production, most notably with French producer Henry Lange (1938-2002; they made over a dozen films together[16]) and with Hollywood legend Bert Schneider (1933-2011): Hearts And Minds, Warner Bros., 1974; The Gentleman Tramp, 1976; and Paramount’s 1977 Tracks, which in addition was produced by[17] and co-starred[18] Zack and was directed by Henry Jaglom, who would become Zack’s most frequent moviemaking partner. As producer, presenter, financier and actor, Zack has collaborated with Jaglom for the last 40 years on such films as Sitting Ducks (1980)[19], Venice, Venice (1992)[20], Babyfever (1994)[21], Hollywood Dreams (2005)[22], Irene in Time (2009)[23], Queen of the Lot (2010)[24] and Festival in Cannes (2002)[2], for which Zack received the best reviews of his film acting career[25].

In 2006, Variety’s Elizabeth Guider wrote of Zack: “There are people through the decades who become regular fixtures in the pages of Variety – everyone from Al Jolson to Jimmy Durante to Michael Ovitz to Harvey Weinstein. Articles for creation/Zack Norman[edit]

Hello there! I wrote an article on actor Zack Norman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Zack_Norman), which has been rejected twice because my reference sources (primarily the Internet Movie Database) didn't meet Wikipedia requirements for verification. So I had a quick question: does Wikipedia consider the New York Times website to be a reliable reference source? Because, for example, if you go to http://movies.nytimes.com/person/52994/Zack-Norman/filmography many of Zack Norman's film roles are listed. So could I just cite that url as verification for his accomplishments as an American film character actor? Or would I need to cite a separate url for each role, i.e.: http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/41997/Romancing-the-Stone/cast for his performance in Romanicing the Stone? If you could let me know if this would be acceptable, that would be a huge help, because then I could just replace the reference footnotes where necessary, redo the layout according to Wiki guidelines, and ... is there something I'm forgetting? There's certainly no conflict of interest, as I am not associated with Mr. Norman in any way. I'm just a writer with an interest in submitting articles to Wikipedia, and chose Zack Norman as my first article subject simply because he's not yet represented there and seems like he should be. Matthew, welcome to the Teahouse. The NYT is a reliable source so you can us it. If it covers all his films you can just cite it once but if there are roles it doesn't list which you have other sources for you would need to use the NYT cite against each role it lists. if you do this to keep the typing down you can use the named reference trick so it would go something like this

*Role 2<ref name="Somewhere else"> made up URL </ref>

I want to make sure that you know Wikipedia is not for original research, that is, everything in the Zack Norman biography should be found in published books, magazine articles, newspaper articles... stuff that meets the requirements of WP:Reliable sources. If you add things to the Zack Norman biography which are just you shooting from the hip, writing what you know without checking to see that it has been published, then I'm going to remove it. I recently created an article for CHIEF ZABU. Shortly thereafter it was reviewed and I received this notice: "(This article or section may have been copied and pasted from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0094859/ (DupDet · CopyVios), possibly in violation of Wikipedia's copyright policy. Please remedy this by editing this article to remove any non-free copyrighted content and attributing free content correctly, or flagging the content for deletion. Hi Salavat, I know it's been a while, but I wanted to respond to your removal of the image File: FESTIVAL IN CANNES 5.png from the Zack Norman Wikipedia page. If the file cannot be used under non-free content criteria, then I would like to submit it with the permission of Henry Jaglom and Rainbow Pictures, the owners of the copyright of the film "Festival in Cannes", from which the image is taken. Mr. Jaglom and Mr. Norman are good friends, and I'm sure Mr. Jaglom would have no problem with me using the image in question for Wikipedia, so I just wanted to ask you how exactly his permission would have to be submitted. In a short letter? Is there some sort of form that Wikipedia requires to be filled out? I'm not the one violating the neutral point of view -- you are. You took one bad review and a single misinformed article as the basis for your claim that the movie "Chief Zabu" was universally panned by critics, when in actuality it received many positive reviews as well. Some of these I've cited in the article in the past, but the links were promptly removed. I don't know why. I'm not inserting "personal analysis" into the article, I'm merely trying to give the full picture. I understand that Wikipedia wants to prevent people from using the site as a platform for self-promotion, but they should be equally guarded against those who would use it as a forum for petty, toxic crusades against individuals who have made legitimate contributions with their lives. I don't know what your problem with Zack Norman could be, or why you woulkd even have one at all, but you seem determined to discredit him with your relentless presentation of anything negative or deragotory you can find, while omitting or blocking the many positive pieces of information that can be found about his notable achievements. Because that's certainly not "neutrality" -- it's defamation, and groundless, and I will certainly petition Wikipedia to examine your behavior. That you should be allowed to try and satisfy some sort of need for power and authority by unfairly minimizing and corrupting the legacy of others; by manipulating the truth, then having the audacity to accuse people like myself of doing that very thing, is an outrage and a disgrace to the open source ideals upon which Wikipedia was founded. Note that your own editing record will come under scrutiny, and folks will want to know about your conflict of interest on the topic. I was clearly in violation, and you got me dead to rights. You were just doing your job, did what you had to do, and there it is. I had no business getting up on my moral high horse, grandstanding about manipulation of the truth and how crippling insecurity must drive you to these twisted Nazi vendettas in order to satisfy some deep-seated need for power and superiority. I mean, I don't think I'll ever truly get right with whatever higher calling you serve, busting skells like me trying to help a friend feel good about himself in the twilight of his life.
