You are now an administrator[edit]

Congrats! Your request for adminship passed with 61 supports to 0 opposes, which is equal to, well, a 100% support to oppose ratio. I have now promoted you to administrator, which means you now have access to several neat administrative, cleanup and upkeep tools at your disposal.

As a new administrator, you should read relevant policies and pages linked to the administrators' reading list before you carry out tasks such as blocking users, deleting and protecting pages, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Remember that most of what you will be doing will be easily reverted by other admins, apart from page moves and image deletion. I personally suggest reading the administrators' how-to guide in order to learn some of the ropes. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask me for help. Welcome to adminship! Removal of {{db-move|Harvest (1972 album)}}[edit]

Hi, I noticed you removed my speedy delete request from the redirect page Harvest (album). I put it there because I want to move Harvest (1972 album) to 'Harvest (album)' to follow guidelines at WP:ALBUM#Style: album articles need not be disambiguated when there is no other album of that name; in case of conflict, the disambiguation is done by artist name anyway (eg "Harvest (Neil Young album)"). I would just like to check that I haven't placed the wrong tag? Or did I miss some point of procedure? If not, can I ask why you removed the template? Cheers, Qirex 07:47, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid you have confused me. I thought the request to delete the article was posted first, then then article was moved, and then the article was posted for redirect. Hence I am not sure if the redirect should be changed or, if the redirect in question should be deleted. My apologies, however I am a rather new admin, and I think I will sit this one out from this point on and let another admin rectify the current situation. sorry If I have confused you. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 07:52, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think someone did move it from 'Harvest (album)' to 'Harvest (1972 album)' at some point, so it was a confusing situation to begin with. This is the first time I've asked to delete a redirect page to facilitate a move, so I wasn't quite sure what I was doing in terms of procedure – that's why I gave you that overly long drawn out explanation, sorry it just caused more confusion! Anyway, it's all done now :) --Qirex 10:04, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the entire article on Chris Eubank, I think I have the rights to edit my material. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steve ppp (talkcontribs) 01:22, 31 December 2005

You do have the right to edit pages, however, you actually don't have the right to remove such content. Even if you are the original contributer. You should check out the GFDL link that is between the edit box and the summary box. And in the process of making contributions you should know that your contributions cannot be copyrighted and you certainly don't own the material. Also you should know that removing such content from wikipedia might be considered vandalism. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 01:30, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well, with it being my material, I demand that it be removed. There are many, many, many mistakes in the article. I'm going to edit it ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Steve ppp (talkcontribs) 01:35, 31 December 2005

You are welcome to edit, however please stop removing content. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 01:39, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Make arguements before deleting[edit]

try it sometime instead of reverting for people who make no effort to edit against information they dislike...you arent a counter vandal you are a vandal (Gibby 06:14, 31 December 2005 (UTC))

Edits like these [1] [2] Look as if you are trying to cover up your past. I have nothing to hide, and I let my edits speak for themselves. Your recent edits to Communism however have actually removed more content than anything else. Also you clearly don't have the consensus of other users on Talk:Communism. Honestly I have no opinion on such information, however I do not believe that its removal should be left to the sole descretion of one user. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 06:24, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Communism[edit]

Thank you for you vigilance on the communism article. On that note, please take another look at the article, if you have time. Gibby reinserted his POV personal essay around several times following your removal, and it remains posted in the article. Regards, 172 07:59, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unilateral Redirect[edit]

Our "friend" Voice of All has unilaterally put a redirect on List of sexual slurs to make it redirect to Sexual slang. This was done without any discussion or consensus. Thanks for all of your work on the DE-104 article. This year is the 100th anniversary of George's MOH, it's nice to know that the ship named after him has a valuable entry here. --Perplexed 22:32, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Big Fish talk page[edit]

Curious why you reverted the anon's deletion of the off-topic and offensive rant there - Talk:Big Fish; just reflexive perhaps? I actually thought all the comments on that talk page should have been deleted as none are appropriately discussing the article rather than the subject of the article. AUTiger ʃ talk/work 23:24, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it's not appropriate, then that is a sufficient reason to remove such content. However, WP:NOT states that wikipedia is not a censore of information. I went by the edit summary of that edit, and personally I saw it as being a weak edit. Also the edit history of that user, found at Special:Contributions/81.159.152.169 shows, in my opinion, a rather questionable edit history. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Feel free to remove it if you wish, just state a justified reason please. Thanks -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:36, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done; thanks. AUTiger ʃ talk/work 06:49, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, after seeing this user spam all over the place, I went to his (I'll assume male pronouns) page and he has posted a list on his page of people he considers "faggots". It is more the homophobia that offends me than the list of people he dislikes. I noticed you already had a run in with this user, (I guess that's how you made the list) so I was hoping that you would be able to help. Is it okay for me to go and remove that from his page? Is this something he can be banned over (assuming his current ban has expired)? Thanks in advance Qirex 11:08, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you can go ahead and remove these statements on his userpage. If this user continues to make such edits he can be banned, however I would like to try and resolve any disputes with users and explain to them the rules of wikipedia, rather than run the risk of permanentley blocking someone prematurely. And BTW, his current block hasn't expired just yet, he still has about 10-12 hours left on his block. Thanks for asking me about this, I'll be sure to keep an eye on his contributions. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 14:11, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

THANKS FOR THE USELESS ATTEMPT[edit]

I appreciate you reminding pamento of the wiki-policy concerning rude behaviour, but he will just revert back to the way it was before. I suspect that he will claim "he want callin anyone an ass-hole" when questioned. Perhaps there is a policy against "repeated comments made with intentional malice" or some such bussiness that could be used to rid the wiki-world of this character. I'm sorry, but who is this, and what are you talking about? Does it relate to User:Cigammagicwizard? -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 02:59, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to explain to User:Cigammagicwizard why they have been autoblocked and when it is likely to expire. See their talk page for details. --Martyman-(talk) 00:41, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, this is perhaps a bit overdue, but thank-you for your support in my recent RfA! I passed with a final vote count consensus of (82/1/0), which was a lot of support that I really appreciate. Speedy deletes[edit]

Thanks for the heads-up, sorry for any confusion/problems caused. One question: does tagging with NC/NCT get the WP image deleted?

Btw I didn't tag the Somali flag. (spent) Greentubing 06:44, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the Somali flag, I had just realized you didn't upload that one, Sorry. I already fixed your talk page. Anyways, NC mean now on commons right? It does not get it deleted necessarily. If the image has a correct license it can be transfered by the wikimedia system to commons and then deleted from wikipedia, but that isn't exactly an instantenous process. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 06:49, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your correction, and I've taken back the Somali comment :D. Yes, NC = Now Commons. I was just wondering since I've been doing SVG work on Commons to replace PNGs on WP. Does this mean that deletion for WP orphan images need to go through the regular RFD process (with an explanation along the lines of "orphan, and better version on Commons")? Greentubing 06:53, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Typcially, yes, that is what needs to happen. Only I don't think it is refered to as an rfd (thats redirects for deletion). I think you want Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion which deals with not speedy canidates such as the removal of orphans. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 07:02, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright tag[edit]

Whe yopu use {{Image copyright}} please remember to use SUBST. otherwsie the next person to edit the page you placed it on is likely to wid up editing the tempalte instrad, which is surely not what you wanted. DES (talk) 00:46, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising[edit]

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Until the situation becomes more clear, I believe the group should still have a place in the Wikipedia namespace. Sincerely, Tfine80 00:23, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
