May 2011[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Central State Hospital (Milledgeville, Georgia). Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. Jac16888 Talk 23:56, 21 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jac16888, I'm sorry it appears that my links were inappropriate. These links were added solely to provide information to those interested in learning more about Central State Hospital, especially since another photographer's work was posted "A recent photoessay on the abandoned Walker building at Central State Hospital." After speaking with [[User:topaz| on Wikipedia chat, I now know it more appropriate to present my links on the talk page for these historic buildings first since it appears as a conflict of interest to add them myself. Thank you for your time. Lindsay--LindsayBlairBrown (talk) 03:03, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to add soapboxing, promotional or advertising material to Wikipedia, as you did at Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, you may be blocked from editing. BelovedFreak 01:41, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Belovedfreak, again, I am sorry it appears that my links were inappropriate and strictly for promotion purposes. These links were added solely to provide information to those interested in learning more about these buildings. Shortly after posting this link, I received a few messages thanking me for posting my article that they stumbled upon after reading the Wikipedia page for the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. Many of your links focus on the ghost hunting aspect of the place, it was nice to have something focusing on the history behind the building and detailing what a photo tour was like. After speaking with [[User:topaz| on Wikipedia chat, I now know it more appropriate to present my links on the talk page for these historic buildings first since it appears as a conflict of interest to add them myself. Thank you for your time. Lindsay--LindsayBlairBrown (talk) 03:03, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As well as reading the various guidlelines linked above, going to the relevant talkpages and getting consensus for adding the links you want to include is a good idea. It's not a case of not adding any external links ever, but we do have to be careful not to let pages turn into link farms. (see also Wikipedia is not a link directory). A clear conflict of interest raises red flags more quickly than usual, but again, it's not black and white. Getting consensus among more experienced editors on article talkpages is your best bet. If you don't get much response, you can also go to the external links noticeboard for more feedback. --BelovedFreak 03:12, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback, Belovedfreak. I completely understand, I will follow this protocol from here on in. Lindsay--LindsayBlairBrown (talk) 16:22, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
