Welcome!

Hello, Linda Gulley, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited was The Costa Report, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! DoriTalkContribs 05:00, 15 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

April 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from The Costa Report. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Rebecca D. Costa, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. DoriTalkContribs 05:01, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Linda Gulley. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Rebecca D. Costa, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. DoriTalkContribs 05:02, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Use of multiple accounts?[edit]

Hello Linda Gulley and welcome to Wikipedia. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia. Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please remember to disclose these connections. The accounts in question:

May 2012[edit]

Please stop. Continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Rebecca D. Costa, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. Hi Dori, I added some new references in the biography and I am fine with no photograph. Are we good or do I need to do more? I'm sorry but I am sort of new to this and I can't figure out how to talk on my Talk Page. Thanks for your help. Linda Gulley Linda Gulley (talk) 01:43, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Linda, and thanks for responding! There's a few different issues here, so let me take them one by one.
  • According to this press release, you're Costa's Marketing Director. Is that correct? If so, I strongly recommend that you read the articles I linked above about WP's views on Conflict of interest.
  • Re your statement "I added some new references in the biography"—are you referring to this edit? Sadly, none of those count as reliable independent secondary sources, and that's what's required on biographies of living people. Consequently, I've reverted their addition.
  • Re your statement "do I need to do more?" If you're okay with the current state of the article, you don't need to do anything at all. If you do want changes, I'd suggest discussing them at Talk:Rebecca D. Costa first.
  • Most of the warnings I've left you above are about removing maintenance templates from the article. Please only do that if/when issues have been resolved. In particular:
    • {{BLP sources}} - The article contains very little about Costa as a person, which is why I haven't (for example) added an infobox. If there's some solidly sourced information out there about her that could help fill out an infobox, bring it into the article (with citations), please!
    • {{primary sources}} - Right now (for example), the citations supporting the section about her radio show are all directly from the radio station websites. It'd be much better if they were from articles written about the radio show, which happened to mention what stations she can be heard on.
    • {{COI}} - That would be, well, you.
    • {{orphan}} - Right now, the article has zero incoming links from articles. That's the very definition of an orphan.
Each of these is a unique issue, so each would need to be addressed separately.
  • Re your statement "I can't figure out how to talk on my Talk Page" — that's why I moved this here. You should be able to click edit at the top of the page and then directly respond below. Try it!
Again, thanks for responding, and let's see what can be done. DoriTalkContribs 04:56, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ahhh, you are a genius! Yes, obviously, this works really well. Thank you. And, thanks for all of your helpful suggestions above. I am fighting a really annoying cold so I am about ready to crash out tonight but I will get on these points tomorrow and see what I can get resolved. Thanks again! Hi!
I just made some changes to the Rebecca Costa page. Can you take a look and let me know if that helps? I merged the career into the top paragraph and added some new references. I would love to get that box removed so the page can look finished. Thanks!

Linda, did you read any of the pages I've linked to about Conflict of Interest? I've recommended them to you several times, and I'll do so again. In particular, you need to read:
As for your most recent edit, I've mostly reverted it, because (as previously mentioned) what you added doesn't "count as reliable independent secondary sources, and that's what's required on biographies of living people."

I'm happy to work with you on this, but I don't get the impression that you're reading what I write, or paying attention to my responses. For instance, you haven't answered any of the questions I asked you above. DoriTalkContribs 02:34, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
