Shepherd's Pie[edit]

Hi. If you don't find anything to support the "Admiral's Pie" you may delete it. By the look of things, you seem to have pasted the citation template because the date is wrong. To add the "ciation needed" tag, just type "{{cn}}" or "{{fact}}" and a bot will come past and add the current month and year for you. Alternatively you can add the date as a parameter by appending "|date=February 2008", e. g. "{{cn|date=February 2008}}". Please see here for more information. Thank you for the helpful advice. Letsgetthingsright (talk) 20:24, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just a note to let you know, in case you aren't watching the page, that I support your suggestion for moving the article to "Cottage pie". -- Picapica (talk) 15:47, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your support, Picapica|. Since no one else had anything to say, I made the move, only to discover what you meant about "getting into a tangle". I suspect that I didn't do it in accordance with Wikipedia's collective requirements and I await the wrath of Wikipedians descending upon me. Letsgethingswrong![edit]

Before we go any further, let's understand that "Letsgetthingsright" is supposed to refer to the content, not the procedure. Letsgetthingsright (talk) 12:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Cottage pie Hi. While I don't disagree with the page being moved, you don't seem to have actually moved it. You need to use the move page function to do this—and not cut/copy and paste. Now the talk page and the article edit history that is still at Shepherd's Pie should be at Cottage Pie, and vice versa. Unfortunately it is not possible for a non-admin to move the page to an already-existing page. What on earth is the [[Cottage Pie (redirect) page doing there? It shouldn't even exist!
You should also bear in mind that moving a page is a big step and should never be undertaken without prior discussion and consensus. Otherwise the move will seem very POV. And consensus does not mean one person agreeing with you, and you making the move on the same day. The problem is now that we need admin intervention to sort out the page histories and discussion pages. I'm going to see if I can find someone because this is all a little over my head (I'm pretty new here too).
PS. If this sounds a bit hard it's not my intention, but do do seem to have put the cat amongst the pigeons ;-) Greetings TINYMARK 23:58, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Letsgetthingsright. I have asked for help to correct the move and partially reverted it, not because I disagree with you but because the move was technically mangled. One of wikipedia's most important mottoes is be bold|. You have been bold and don't let the technical hiccup put you off ;0) GameKeeper (talk) 09:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The pages have now been fixed, with Cottage pie as that main page but having the history and talk from the Shepherd's pie article. For serious changes such as page moving, complete article restructuring etc, it is always better to discuss and get a consensus first. Happy editing. Oh, by the way, as far as I'm concerned the entire Hachis Parmentiere article can be deleted ;-) TINYMARK 10:55, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to all. Letsgetthingsright (talk) 12:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cut'n'paste moves[edit]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. This is what we call a "cut and paste move", and it is very undesirable because it splits the article's history, which is needed for attribution and is helpful in many other ways. The mechanism we use for renaming articles is to move it to a new name which both preserves the page's history and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. In most cases, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. If there is an article that you cannot move yourself by this process, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves to request the move by another. Also, if there are any other articles that you copied and pasted, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. --slakrtalk / 11:01, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

{{help}} The article hachis parmentier should be named hachis Parmentier (with an initial uppercase letter), because it's named after a person called Parmentier. I cannot move the article to hachis Parmentier (other than by cut and paste) because an article of that name already exists as a redirect. Hachis parmentier should be the redirect.
