Online book help[edit]

Help:Wikipedia: The Missing Manual is available right here to help you get started. Your goal of adding a living artist biography is not easy, as you will quickly find out. Read the conflict of interest information in various help articles here, and in the manual I have cited. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:54, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for answering me. The manual is a huge help. I think I've mixed up practice page and sandbox. I have most of the information I need to create the artist's bio and she is notable. I am confused with how to format it. Can I put it someplace for someone to help me format it? Lavanderblue (talk) 20:47, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sandboxes[edit]

Hi again. You might find it better to experiment on Susan's article in a sandbox rather than on your userpage. Try clicking here. Dan D. Ric (talk) 23:23, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

How to cite books[edit]

Citing sources - References look neater if you use one of the templates you can find at Wikipedia:Citation templates. for example, the book template:

{{cite book
| last =
| first =
| authorlink =
| coauthors =
| title =
| publisher =
| date =
| location =
| pages =
| url =
| doi =
| id =
| isbn = }}

Filling it in like this:

{{cite book
| last = Smith
| first = Joe
| authorlink =
| coauthors =
| title = My Book
| publisher = Random House
| date = 2009
| location = Kalamazoo, MI
| pages =
| url =
| doi =
| id =
| isbn = 0123456789}}

Results in: Smith, Joe (2009). My Book. Kalamazoo, MI: Random House. ISBN 0123456789. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |coauthors= (help)

Putting it all in between reference tags <ref></ref>and adding

==Notes==

<references/>

further down the page results in:[1]

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Smith, Joe (2009). My Book. Kalamazoo, MI: Random House. ISBN 0123456789. {{cite book}}: Cite has empty unknown parameter: |coauthors= (help)

Try it. Dan D. Ric (talk) 02:02, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of * /my sandbox 2[edit]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. I'm so new to Wikipedia that I'm not even sure what your critique says. I apologize for putting the raw format onto the sandbox and saving it. I thought I had created another personal sandbox. It was easier for me to inset the info into the correct format if I had it right in front of me. Lavanderblue (talk) 16:46, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The only problem is you did not set this up as your sandbox correctly, just let them delete it and don't worry about it for now. I am at work and can't spend much time on this at the moment. I'll look at your other question in a little while. Dan D. Ric (talk) 16:55, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've made a change to your sandbox 2. The first author needs to be filled in, other authors can be added on the co-author line. Dan D. Ric (talk) 04:15, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
