Question from Obis rule (07:31, 1 December 2023)

Hi LEvalyn. How do i go about this editing thing? thanks --Obis rule (talk) 07:31, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello Obis rule, and welcome! You can start editing on just about any page on Wikipedia by clicking “edit source” in the top-left, or a pencil icon on mobile. For various technical details, there are a lot of how-to guides; I’m also happy to answer specific questions when they arise.
In terms of figuring out *what* to edit, the best way to make really high-quality edits is to start with an interesting article in a reliable source and see if it has useful info that Wikipedia doesn’t include. That way anything you add is already ready to be supported with a citation. Another fun starting point can be writing a summary for a book or movie, especially if you can describe the ending when the Wiki article is vague. (Press releases and reviews often avoid spoilers but an encyclopedia should include important details like whodunnit in a mystery!)
There’s a lot of Wikipedia to edit and every little bit helps so you can go wherever you find yourself interested! Let me know if I can help in any way, and happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 23:04, 1 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Gg mbauav7 (06:22, 4 December 2023)

Please how can I edit or create my own Wikipedia page? --Gg mbauav7 (talk) 06:22, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Gg mbauav7, you can edit any article by clicking "edit source" in the top-right corner of the page. To create a wikipedia article, I suggest reading WP:BACKWARD and WP:YFA. Let me know if I can help with anything else. ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:17, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Book sources

Hi, I usually look 2 places for book sources.

For most of these old books, newspapers.com (via TWL) has enough reviews to demonstrate notability. To search there, I simply searched the book title with quotes around it to ensure exact matches. Sometimes, as in the case of A Child of the Revolution, there's a lot of false positives, so limiting to a few years around the publication usually works. The other place is ProQuest (also via TWL), which isn't as good for older books, but is fine for newer ones, and I perform the same searches there, with the same steps as newspapers.com (quote marks around the title). Google Search/Books/News occaisonally returns good results, but it's a bit of a hit or miss.

As for the Baroness Orczy novels - yes, I believe most of them NBOOK; there's a few at WP:DELSORT/LIT that I was able to find reviews for via newspapers.com, and I'm sure her other books will have also been reviewed. Happy searching! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 00:24, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you, this is very helpful! I will especially try to use the date filter next time I feel swamped with false positives— for this one, I’d added “Orczy” as an additional search term, but clearly that filtered out too much. I appreciate your work and generosity! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 19:47, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Have you thought about becoming an NPP?

Hey there, LEvalyn! I wanted to ask you if you've considered becoming a new page patroller. I've seen you active at AfC more recently, and that kind of work translates quite naturally into patrolling. We're running a backlog drive next month, so now is a great time to get into things if you're interested. There's plenty of help available from other patrollers (both on-wiki and on Discord), and if you're on the fence and need something cleared up, feel free to ask me any questions. I hope you'll consider it! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 20:01, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello TechnoSquirrel69, thank you for the invitation-- I'm flattered. It's not something that calls to me right now (I am actually feeling antsy to get back into more sustained article writing) but I will keep it in mind. Good luck with the backlog drive! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 07:24, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from ElliePadd (06:54, 21 December 2023)

Hello! Nice to meet you. I hope to become a successful editor!

I have one question that's more to do with account management than editing. Wikipedia wants me to confirm my email, but it's actually *not* the correct email. I made a typo (.dom instead of .com), how would I change that? --ElliePadd (talk) 06:54, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello ElliePadd, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not entirely sure how to solve this pickle, but I'd start by going to your user preferences and, under "email preferences", click "change or remove email address." I think you'll be able to put in the new ".com" version of your email, and then confirm that one. If that doesn't work, let me know and I can try to connect you with some technical troubleshooting experts!!
Please also feel free to reach out any time with questions you may have about editing. It can take awhile to get the hang of Wikipedia so there's no such thing as a "dumb" question and I am glad to help! Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 00:29, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Alfie5890 (16:47, 30 December 2023)

Hi there. How do I insert headings in the articles? --Alfie5890 (talk) 16:47, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello Alfie5890, and welcome to Wikipedia! I think this bit of tutorial addresses how to add headings. Basically, you select the text that should be a heading, and then change "Paragraph" to "Heading" in the upper toolbar. There are a lot of different ways to add headings: a shortcut I personally use is to enter a new line, and then type == (two equal signs) and it will start making a heading. (Use three equal signs for a subheading, etc.) If you have any trouble or want me to look at the article you're working on, just let me know! Happy editing! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 20:51, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Daniel Ocean05 (22:24, 8 January 2024)

Hello - I recently made additions to the page - United_States_at_the_2024_Winter_Youth_Olympics - I included the recently announced qualifiers for the men's and women's luge events. The edits have since been taken down. I've tried to look around and find out why, but can't find anything. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. --Daniel Ocean05 (talk) 22:24, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Hello Daniel Ocean05, and welcome to Wikipedia! I’m happy to offer some advice/clarity, but I don’t see any recent edits by your username at 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. Did you maybe edit while not logged in? That’s ok if so, but can you take a look at the history of edits to that article and give me a link to the one(s) that we’re undone? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 18:20, 11 January 2024 (UTC)
Would this link help? This shows the edits I added, and the current version which deleted my edits.

Hi Daniel Ocean05, yes that link helps quite a lot! Or at least... they help me see what happened, but I honestly can't figure out why. You included a source and the information looks totally appropriate to me. It may be that the other editor didn't want to include so much detail about the competitors (preferring to keep times etc on the main Luge article)... but I also wonder if it was just an accident of some kind.
The best way to get an answer would probably be to start a discussion on the article's talk page, and tag the other editor (with something like {{ping|username here}} ) to start a conversation about it. But I'm not entirely sure that's necessary, since it looks like the article is developing well regardless. You might consider the whole thing an example of the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle (with it being up to you whether it's time for the Discuss stage).
Thank you for your work in this area, and good luck with your continued contributions! ~ L 🌸 (talk) 05:26, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
