Template:Commonewealth of Nations

Hiya,

The colour scheme that you have reverted the template to is actually just the WP default navbox colours. I don't see anywhere that states it is the standard or required colour scheme for country-related navboxes. Unless you have something, I'll be changing it back. Thanks. Racism faced by Bihari Community in India

I have edited the article "Racism faced by Bihari Community in India" a bit and changed the title back to Racism faced by Bihari Community in India, based on the discussions here and here. Kindly discuss if you disagree. Manoj nav (talk) 09:55, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I have done a few edits like -
  • Changed the line in the introduction - "Bihari communities living in other states have been subjected to a growing degree of prejudice and violence." to "Bihari communities living in other states have been subjected to a growing degree of racial discrimination, prejudice and violence." It's supported by references, which are secondary sources.
  • Changed the line in the introduction - "Biharis are often looked down upon" to "Biharis are often looked down upon and their accent is ridiculed."
  • Added comment by Indian journalist, Vir Sanghvi.
I have added few more references and will keep adding references. Manoj nav (talk) 17:19, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Film City

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Film City, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Film City seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Film City, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. North India

You have recently edited the article North India. The references, which I had cited to show that Bihar is in eastern India, have been deleted by you. I have added citation tags in the article. Kindly provide suitable references to justify your edits. Moreover the map shown there seems to be an original research. Manoj nav (talk) 16:48, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

re:Film city

A little tied up with some other articles to expand on this, but it's interesting that all these years there was no article on the subject. Could you carry on with the additions? it needs an infobox and more stuff. You can get it up to a DYK too. =Nichalp «Talk»= 19:25, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Racism faced by Bihari community in India

You have changed the title to Violence against Hindi-speaking migrants in India. Discrimination_against_Biharis_in_India#Notable_incidents section don't talks about violence at all. Kindly refer the comments Talk:Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India#Proposal. So the title is not justified. Manoj nav (talk) 16:48, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Sorry for butting in! I believe it is the most appropriate title because 1) All the references point strongly to violence. 2) The violence is not against all people in general, it is rather against the migrants 3) It is not only Bihari migrants who are subject to this violence. Your POV pushing is against wikipedia policies and therfore I would advice you give up on this and concentrate on improving other articles as adviced by others. Distribution of Hindi languages.

This map based on the reference - "Language families and branches, languages and dialects in A Historical Atlas of South Asia, Oxford University Press. New York 1992." has been titled "Distribution of Hindi languages" here. It claims that Bihari languages are Hindi, which is no more considered true. Bihari languages are not Hindi. Kindly refer articles on Bihari_languages, Maithili, Magadhi .. references are available there. If you need more references kindly let me know. Manoj nav (talk) 17:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi KnowledgeHegemonyPart2

I admire you efforts to compile the article 2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra. There is a little problem with the title, which says attacks on north Indians. The fact is, the attack was just on the people from Bihar and UP (to be more correct it's Bihar and eastern UP). Kindly refer the article - [2]. Even if we go by your definition of north India, which you have discussed atTalk:North_India#Proposal, we find that the migrants from Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Uttaranchal were not at all effected by the violence, which the title of this article otherwise suggests. Manoj nav (talk) 17:13, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Discrimination faced by the Bihari community in India

I am changing the title to a more acceptable one - "Discrimination faced by the Bihari community in India" for the time being. Kindly participate in the discussion here. Manoj nav (talk) 06:23, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

I notice that you tagged the page Great Raise Houston for speedy deletion with the reason "very short article lacking sufficient context to identify the subject of the article". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because it is not very short and it is possible to identify the subject of the article. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:PROD process. Thanks! I just found that on Wikipedia Hindi has only two subcategories (beginner and native) compared to the numerous for English and Chinese languages! Wikipedia notation means that you either know your क् ख् ग् and speak fluently or else you are a beginner! I wonder what people who speak Hindi, Urdu with just a bit of English, and Hindi writing ability put on their pages. JSR (talk) 12:23, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

So, Lihaas comes and picks on me for no reason, and because I tell him to get lost, you feel the need to come pick on me as well? I have left a message to Spencer. Hoping he will add it soon. Oh BTW, on India page, I had added 1993 Bombay blast link just to highlight the earlier part of the sentence in which I mentioned that such attacks came to prominence in 1990s. They were first such serial attacks which shook the country and has been a trend followed since. 2001 Parliament attack was added by me long back and was there for quite sometime. Moreover it's an FA. I am fine with the ULFA link removed. Didn't think of it. Right now thinking on Nichalp's question 15. It's is tough to crack. --GPPande talk! 15:39, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Discussion of change

Hi - as you requested me to do, I have explained the following change I am making to this article at Talk:India#Discussion of change - it is mainly editing, correcting of spelling mistakes and awkward grammar. If you are giving precise dates, you don't need "three years later" or "finally" (which sounds like someone telling a story). There aren't any particular changes in content, except I do want to change the "as per the wishes of the Muslim League" statement in regards to explaining the partition of India - it is quite misleading by itself and raises more questions than it answers. It would be more concise and accurate to say "at the same time Muslim-majority areas were partitioned to form a separate state of Pakistan." I hope this meets with approval - I will make the amends if there are no objections. Also, I am assuming that this article should be written as per Indian English or Commonwealth English, in which case words like "characterized" should be "characterised." S h i v a (Visnu) (talk) 07:08, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

I rewrote the sentence because the latter part is awkward and unlike the rest of the article, the fact has not been cited. I found myself asking what is meant by "control them," given that violence always had terrible fallout in every case, "tolerance" can be directly disputed by the mobs involved. I'm not sure which "constitutional reforms" have been attempted and attributed to stop violence. What happens if something new happens tomorrow? Was that "controlled" through the "constitutional reforms" stated? Such an assertion would require a direct citation in my opinion. The more general statement I wrote of "India facing challenges" is much better in giving fact without inviting dispute. S h i v a (Visnu) (talk) 20:18, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Talk India

Hi there KH2....I'm trying to understand the rearrangement of the options in the poll. Isn't Option 1.b basically the same as the "old" Option 1? The old Option 1 had about 5 people that had supported it; seems like the "new" 1.b only lists you atm. Is this an error? If so, could you reverse the edit? Nichalp pinged me asking me to revise the "old" Option 5...currently waiting to hear back from him on what needs to be done. In the interim, it would be good if we could retain the same structure as before. Your thoughts? Thanks AreJay (talk) 18:13, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Haha...no problem! So is option 5.b different from Option 1 then? Is your objection based on UNDUE? If so, wouldn't it be the same as objecting under Option 1? Thanks! AreJay (talk) 18:29, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Aah I see...so #1 is objecting to including it in the infobox only, whereas 5.b is objecting to it being included in the article period. Got it! Yes, it is rather confusing, but hopefully, we'll put an end to this debate shortly...there' light at the end of the tunnel :) Thanks AreJay (talk) 18:57, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

"But the biggest worry is that the great benefit of the open-source approach is also its great undoing. Its advantage is that anyone can contribute; the drawback is that sometimes just about anyone does. This leaves projects open to abuse, either by well-meaning dilettantes or intentional disrupters. Sikh extremism

Hi KnowledgeHegemonyPart2, If you take a deep look into the article, I am simply re-structuring the article with a very little modification. Yes I am modifying the section names, but if you read thier information which I am re-structuring under these section names then you will notice that I am not disturbing their references, but I am simply aligning them and related text with the real sections/articles. The creators of this article are seperating Khalistan Movement into several sections and they are almost deleting their (these sections's) actual relations with Khalistan movement so that they could misguide the readers that Sikh Religion has some extremist problems which are scattered at the world level. But if we add 99% of these incidents under one section then it becomes a political section, i.e. Khalistan movement which already exist and even this movement is almost gone. Kindly note that their (These editors) distortion can also influence AfD. I remember I had sent some message to you long time ago. If you see my edit history, you will notice that I have never distorted information on Hinduism, Islam, Christianity etc ..related articles. And I do not feel comfort if some fundamentalists openely distort information about Human Rights and Sikhism, unless they have proofs/references. I will not edit it untill 10 hours from now so that you could read the version which I had created. Also, for your kind info.. I somehow knew that you will change your vote atleast once. I still hope that you will go back to your earlier decision.--Singh6 (talk) 08:42, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

I would like to point out that too many 'ghost' votes have been asked to delete the article in order to sway the genuine outcome. I'd be grateful if you can look at the views of the admin(s) (Flewis, DJ Clayworth, and Yourself) who said they would like to keep the article and also examine the views of the extremists including many of the 117.*.*.* anons who obviously want it brushed under the carpet. There are many references from neutral sources. Thanks Satanoid (talk) 22:40, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi - Based on advice given, I have initiated a discussion on the semi-protection issue at the village pump. Your opinion, now over the broader topic and not just India, will be most valuable. Shiva (Visnu) 09:41, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, i call it stalking

As per your comments here, I thought it helpful to explain that a) there is no stalking on my part whatsoever, despite what the anon75. is claiming. The rfcu cleared them of being (at least) on e other user, and by admitting that (s)he is using almost two dozen IP addresses, they were able to sidestep accusations of sock-puppetry. That said, the anon was told in no uncertain or vague terms, by several admins, to register an account. The user doesn't, and its a pretty nifty way of avoiding anyone tracking your movements or bad behavior. If it is rather un-AGF to point out this user's past behavior, please understand that I've had eight months of negative interaction - most of it unsought - with this anonymous user. The well of Good Faith has long since run dry. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 06:09, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi there!

Thanks for spotting the WP:OR error in my edit. The problem with "Other official languages," though, is that they are not "official languages of India," but in some cases of the states, and in other cases (like Sanskrit, Sindhi), just 8th schedule languages; India, however, is about the country. Perhaps we should simply change it to "Other languages." It would be the simplest solution, unless we can somehow change the first line to "Official languages of India:" Then "Other official languages" will be fine. Anyway, these are my thoughts ...
