Hi there, welcome to Wikipedia!

I've been on vacation from the 'pedia for a while, just for a change of pace. In response to your questions on Sesame Street Live!...

  • The exclaimation mark is puzzling me too... maybe a newspaper put an exclaimation mark in the title, and I just assumed it was right. I've moved it now.
  • The dancers that have pages are just ones mentioned in newspaper articles, thus, I had the information and wanted to do something with it. Really, encourage any of the dancers or crew with multiple credits to create an article on themselves. As long as they seem noteworthy enough, Wiki is not paper.

In the future, as the rules of Wikipedia go, be bold. Don't be afraid to change anything I or any other Wikipedian writes, even if they're a sysops like me. We're all equal here, and seeing that you're much more of an authority on the topic than me...

The Humungous Image Tagging Project

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

The talk pages or other sources indicate you have in the past participated in discussions regarding whether to put a Native American name translation in the introductory sentence of articles on Arizona cities. We are currently having a vote on this issue at Talk:Tucson, Arizona#VOTE HERE. Please come by and weigh in. Thanks. --Gary D 00:34, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Kmccoy,

I'm very sorry for wrongfully labelling your presumably good-faith edits as vandalism. I hope you'll forgive me. Best. --Node 20:57, 26 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the lead; It doesn't look like it'll be usable for Wikipedia because of copyright issues, but it certainly is neat. -- Seth Ilys 19:54, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Lewis Hine

Hi,

It won't let me move it because there is already a page called Lewis Hine as you can see. That's why I have to do it the "wrong" way. --User:Hottentot

Exactly! Isn't "moving the page manually" doing what I just did?
Thanks for the page, I'll use it in the future. --Hottentot

User:Humanbot update 13 June 2005

The spelling2 project (to work on secondary namespaces) was opened and finished. Progress charts will be available soon.

Version six-three tracks who made the edits, and rankings are available. Much of the work was done while I was asleep, explaining my low place ;).

The next project, which may even be released today, will probably fix incorrectly capitalised headings, particularly "See Also" and "External Links".

The mailing list has grown to 24 people and while that is very nice for my ego, it is rather difficult to send out updates. This is why I did not send out a notice that the spelling2 project had opened. From now on, then, you must watch User:Humanbot/announce for updates. r3m0t talk 12:03, Jun 13, 2005 (UTC)

Please incorporate any info you want into Clothespin article!

Hi Kmccoy,

Please incorporate whatever you like. I have a feeling there will be some changes to my article as far as the history behind C47.

I'm glad you have the interest. I'm actually really surprised other people haven't contributed this article before me. it's kind of a popular subject.

I took your picture from clothespin for the c47 article. hope that's ok. I kinda figured it would be encouraged!

noted gaffer tape and scrim images source

I updated the source of the scrim and gaffer tape images. they are proprietary, but are very descriptive, and because they existed in a websites product directory, I didn't trust the link's staying power, so I copied and uploaded it.

I removed the stub notice because this page is not particularly lacking. It covers the subject fairly well, if in only a few sentences. It also does not meet the definition of a stub found at Wikipedia:Stub that states stubs are "one paragraph or less." - SimonP 22:12, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

I and several other editors have been discussing issues regarding Kurds/PKK with Coolcat for months now, and about these most recent reverts, I think that FrancisTyers has already made it quite clear on the articles talkpage, why Coolcats revert to his old and already discussed PoV version of the article is unacceptable. Another thing that I might mention is that I find it quite difficult to argue with someone who tell me and other editors, that our edits are not welcome and that we can just SHUT UP and GO SCREW yourselves. [1]

Anyway, about the specific edit that you mention, it is mostly the last part that I find POV and unacceptable: making it difficult for government troops to respond in a timely fashion to any ambush. To use a PKK 'attack'/'ambush' as an exampel is clearly POV, and unacceptable. Just like the opposite: making it difficult for the Turkish governments troops to hunt down and kill retreating PKK members would be POV also. If you could reprease the specific edit in a PoV manner, then I won't object if you restore it though.

These things being said, I am happy that you have become interested in the PKK article. It is in my opinion an article that really needs some attention from good-faith editors. -- Stereotek 20:54, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks again for your efforts. I'll take a look at your edits tomorrow. -- Stereotek 21:14, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I do follow Coolcat's edits and for good reasons I think. You might want to take a look at User:Davenbelle/Evidence re User:Coolcat for a small fraction of the edits that make me and other editors interested in this user, who call me and Davenbelle "idiots" on other users talkpages and among other things claim that he has invented the internet. [2]. By the way, you mention that you have noticed what has happend at the abortion article. Can I ask you, what do you actually think about Cc's idea about replacing the prose in several of the sections with bullets?

Anyway, regarding your edits, I didn't directly respond to them today because I've been quite busy this afternoon, preparing for my holidays. However I actually did (somehow) respond to some of the concerns that you have now raised on the talkpage by editing (among other things) the grammar in Cc's most recent contributions. (The edit by 62.242.0.66 is also by me --I logged out by accident when using a public computer--). However, to respond to edits now: I'm not going to object to any of your edits and I think that they benefit the article, both as cleanup and NPoV work. About the section regarding the lives lost in the conflict that you have raised concerns about, I have previously requested on the talk page that sources should be added or the content removed, but several other editors was against this suggestion. I also agree about the picture. It's PoV purpose is obvious, and we already have one much more suitable picture of a PKK demonstation in the article, so again I won't object if you remove it. (However, I suspect that Coolcat might do it). -- Stereotek 19:45, 17 Jun 2005 (UTC)

C47 updated back again

Kmccoy, I updated the C47 articles and reverted them to disambiguation pages again. It was an accident on my part. I am a bit torn between keeping articles consolidated and making sure the term gets enough exposure. I'm satisfied for now. We can submit C47_Clothespin for deletion right? Michaelbuddy 16:37, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the proposal you have put there. I am really growing tired of the whole matter, and I would request you to see the whole discussion (previous two sections) in Talk:Pakistan. I think I have definitely said from the beginning that the issue here is not wheter Pakistan has or has not any link with Taliban or 9/11 terrorists, but whether these comments can be or "must be" included at the top paragraph, which User:SamTr014 continuously assert. From the very beginning, I am all for having the article conform to the guidelines placed in Wikipedia:Wikiproject countries. I also maintained that I have no affiliation or connection with Pakistan other than maintaining NPOV in the article, which you can check out from my previous edits on the article. I completely support the notion of removing unnecessary remarks, judgements or disputable facts from the first paragraph of country level articles. However, User:SamTr014 is adamant on the notion of adding those two sentences there. I just hope you understand my position in the debate, and I hope some other users, possibly admins would have the article on their watchlists and relieve me of being the scapegoat everytime I remove some possibly POV element from the article. Thanks a lot again for your initiative. --Ragib 05:10, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The moment I agreed to discuss first and insert later, there is no discussion taking place. Now that the article is open, people don't care to continue discussion on the opening section. SamTr014 06:39, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Okay, I have made minor changes to the civilian democracy section.. Please check. That is the only integration of the taliban material, correct? Because if it is: I like it. It is small, minor and as NPOV as possible now. Thanks.--Anonymous editor 00:37, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

The bible

Firstly let me say that I am sorry to have to bother you.

Secondly, I wish to let you know that a recent VFD that you took part in has closed. The result was that 32 people voted to keep all individual bible verses as seperate articles, and 34 voted that they shouldn't (2 abstensions, and 3 votes for both). This is considered by standard policy not to be a consensus decision (although the closing admin stated that it was a consensus to keep them).

Thirdly, the subject has now been put to a survey, so that it may remain open until there is a clear consensus for what appears to be a difficult issue to resolve. You may wish to take part in this survey, and record a similar vote to the one you made at the VFD there. The survey is available at Wikipedia:Bible verses.

~~~~ 18:22, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
I added another section for "verse-by-verse Biblical analysis should be transwikied to a WikiBible instead of left on Wikipedia with the possible exception of 'notable' verses" as something that could take votes *in addition* to votes for other section. It looks like you support that idea so go check it out. Thanks! — Phil Welch 22:29, 23 July 2005 (UTC)
SimonP (the creator of the 100 or so gospel verse articles) has tried to claim that the votes for the "only notable verses" section would include most of the 30,000 verses of the bible because he sees them as notable. To avoid such a POV twisting of the votes, I have added a new section - [4] - for voting on whether the number of notable verses is more like 30,000, or more like 30. Would you care to vote there as well? ~~~~ 00:25, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Re: Images on IFD
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks --IncMan 20:06, July 23, 2005 (UTC)
This was protected as part of the series of articles on the US Regions template; many of them had edit wars on them over which map should be used. It was the opinion of the person requesting the protection at WP:RFPP that the entire series should be protected, and I agreed. My logic in doing this is that if the users involved were prevented from editing on one of the articles then they would just carry on the dispute on one of the others.
I appologise for not explaining why on the talk pages, this was simply a matter of time. There were 21 articles that needed protecting for each article this involves clicking the protect button, entering a reason for the protection, clicking a button to confirm the protection, editing the article to add the {{protected}} template, entering an edit summary and then saving the article. Then at the end of that I had to note all the articles at Wikipedia:Protected page and note my action to the request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. As you can imagine this all takes time, that on a sluggish internet connection when all the time I'm actually meant to be working and making sure my boss doesn't think I'm not I just didn't have time to add messages to 21 talk pages!
I have been directed to a discussion about this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. regions#Map series, where I will leave any comments I feel I need to make. If you could add links to this from at least some of the talk pages this would be most appreciated. 80.46.159.158 21:50, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
The above comment is from me, I hadn't spotted I wasn't logged in. Thryduulf 22:12, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
Having that many articles protected is far from ideal, but on some of the articles the edit war was still ongoing as far as I could tell. I am inclined to wait 24 hours or so to give those concerned the chance to respond on that page. If there are indications that they are playing nicely then I will remove protection on at least some of the articles, if that passes peacefully then unprotect the rest. If there is no indication that they are willing to behave like adults or the unprotected articles get hit on then I'm afraid the protection will need to stay a bit longer. If you could direct further comments to the WikiProject talk page, so as to keep teh discussion in one place, this would be most helpful (so I don't have to repeat myself umpteen times). Thryduulf 22:25, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
Images
I know some comments were posted by you regarding determining the origin of some of the very high-res candid shots of celebs that I've uploaded. The problem with this is the photographers are generally anonymous and post their work onto a few message boards for public consumption. I don't know if that in and of itself constitutes a release into the fold we call the "public domain." Therefore I've said the images are unverified because they are, in fact, unverifiable. I've been in touch with the owners of these message boards and they are having just as much trouble hunting down the owners. So therein lies the problem. What do you suggest in this situation? Hrana98 19:46, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
I have various photographs that depict scenes of accidents, medical procedures, and things of that like. I got the chance to look through various Wikipedia articles on such images (death, blood, and gore). I can't seem to find a solid "Yes, it is O.K." or "No, it is unacceptable". The only potential advice I found was "Censorship should be avoided, if an image adds something to an article". Though, the phrase "Censorship should be avoided, if an image adds something to an article" is flexible both ways - what would you advise me to do? Actually, a better question would be, What were the decided guidlines for using pictures that depict death, blood, and gore? — DaemonDivinus 20:57, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
To my best knowledge, some images on Ogrish contain a © symbol showing that Ogrish owns them privately, while others do not signifying that they do not own them and they are free for use. (To see what I mean, I will provide two images (I tried to pick the least graphic) This is one without the © symbol and onewith the © symbol. See what I mean? Also, another one of my questions... In the Glen Arbor article, I posted a picture of mine that I took from a recent vacation. Is there anything I should note down next time saying that I took the picture? Thanks! — DaemonDivinus 21:25, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Audie Murphy photos
Hi! If all these images are copyright to the Audie Murphy Research Foundation, how do we justify their use in Wikipedia? kmccoy (talk) 20:21, 30 July 2005 (UTC)
Hi: I uploaded the images as copyrighted images with fair use, not meant for reproduction. I could be wrong but I believe fair use copyrighted images are OK to use to accompany articles on Wikipedia. If not, removing them is totally fine with me. Speedoflight.
I have just updated and included the Fair Use links/argument on the photo pages. I am new to working on Wikipedia material, didn't realize that I should include the tags. Thanks.
Thanks for your words!
Dear Kevin: Hi! Thanks for your words on my user page. Im very new with uploading photos and basically know not too much about it. I knew from Timetableimages.com that I could use them so when I found out how to upload, I was like WOW! I can do this!! My motto is that every article is artistically arisen with photos of the subject. I will get on with my homework and do as you told me. Thanks for the advice.
Another interest of mine particularly is boxing, I see wikipedia as a conduct to make a difference as far as encyclopedias go in that area and so Ive written of Wilfred Benitez, Antonio Cervantes, Hugo Corro, Wilfredo Gomez, Joe Louis, Larry Holmes, you know, world champions that have made a difference in boxing but have otherwise been ignored by Britannica and what you know. Ive contributed over 200 articles about boxers and fights. Which leads me to tell you that your nickname Kmccoy, makes me ask you if you like boxing as well, because one of boxing's largest stars from the early 1900s was a world champion named Kid McCoy. Actually, the phrase Is he the real McCoy? was invented after him because allegedly sometimes he showed up at fights without wanting to fight at all!!!!
Im getting around to work on an article about the fight between Salvador Sanchez and Juan Laporte. It was not a huge event then, but the human story that took place during and after it, really interested me. The fight was for the WBC world Featherweight title and Laporte was unknown, whereas Sanchez had just defeated Danny Lopez for the world title. After the fight, the mainly-pro Sanchez crowd actually cheered Laporte and Sanchez went to Lap's dressing room and told him you will be the next champion, right after me, which tragically proved to be prophetic words because Sanchez got killed in a car crash and Laporte won the vacant world title!!
Well, amigo, oh by the way, I loved your user page. That one territory flag you got with the rest of the states, however, might soon have to be officially moved into the countries you've visited, since President Bush has announced he wants Puerto Rico to be independent as soon as December of this year because Puerto Rico is becoming too costly for the USA to keep!!!!
Well, amigo I gotta go. Thanks for all the advice and God bless you!!
Sincerely yours, Antonio World at your feet Martin
Copyright allowed to me only
Hey Kev: Whats up? Hey it was nice to hear from you in my talk page again! Judging by what you told me, I think the boxer(s) involved that day on your second visit to Puerto Rico must have been either Ivan Calderon, Alex Sanchez or Nelson Dieppa. The three, all Puerto Rican who have been world champions at different stage, are involved in a three way mano a mano that has Puerto Rican boxing fans in a frenzy! It reminds us of the series of fights between Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns back in the 1980s (the only two not to fight with each other between those five were Benitez and Hagler).
Anyways, you know, I have a situation. Bob Pace, a reknowned boxing seller, has sent me a letter authorizing me to use his boxing images on our boxing articles. Basically, it's kinda like the template you told me to put on the airline timetable images, but he has only given ME, or wikipedia for that matter, permission to use those photos. What template should I use then when I upload them?
Thanks for everything once again, and God bless you!
Sincerely yours, your wiki-friend, Antonio Bang Bang KO Martin
Congratulations on your adminship. The reason I opposed is because, although I do agree about change in the project, I feel that when radically changing a process, a certain back-compatability and appreciation for earlier paradigms must be met. If you have any problems with the way I vote on RFAs, feel free to bring it to my attention. I know I can be harsh, but it's only because I share the rare believe that adminship is a big deal. I believe only the most experienced and most reliable editors should yield the sacred mop. Ryan (talk) 16:31, August 4, 2005 (UTC)
Fine. I just hope you aren't voting against me for the sake of proving a point. I take the comments of others in consideration and will change my vote if I feel I was wrong.
P.S. Congrats on your promotion to admin. Please prove me wrong when I said you weren't ready. :) Ryan 21:40, August 5, 2005 (UTC)
Because it's unprofessional. You would only be voting against me because you are holding a grudge. You are trying to prove that you don't like me, and you want to single out my votes.
You don't have anything to prove. I just wish your answers, even now, weren't so vague and indirect. But I'm going to just walk away, as I don't want this to escalate. Ryan 09:47, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
You're right. I probably took it too seriously. I just don't want it to be a grudge. Whenever I oppose, you support just because, etc. Ryan 19:53, August 6, 2005 (UTC)
Bob Pace
Hey there Kevin! Whats up? I phrased myself wrongly. Yes, he gave me permission to use the boxing photos, but what I meant to say, and didnt say, is that I dont know if he allows other people to use them. I will try to ask him tonight if we can use them and explain the situation and see if he will still let us use it knowing that the only way we will post is if anyone else can use them.
As always you have been very informative. Remember, wiokipedia is like boxing: keep your hands up and protect yourself from attack(ers) at all times..lol!!!! Or, an airline pilot might say, keep an eye for all other flying objects around you. lol!
Thanks for everything and God bless you! Hope to hear from you ASAP!
Sincerely yours, Antonio Stumbler Martin
Thank you for supporting my recent RfA. I was surprised and humbled by the number of positives votes. I'll be monitoring RfA regularly from now on and will look for a chance to "pay it forward". Cheers, --MarkSweep 02:13, 7 August 2005 (UTC)
The mop is mine!
Thank you for voting to support my RFA. I've been promoted, and I promise to wield the mop with good faith, patience, and fairness... except when I'm exterminating vandals with the M-16 recoilless nuclear Gatling mop. --malathion talk 07:52, 10 August 2005 (UTC)
Func's RfA :)
Darn you, Kmccoy!!! This personlized-thank-you-message thingy that you started is a real pain...I'm only on 36!!! ;-)
Maybe I should stop spamming people, huh? :)
Thank you for your support. The KmccoyContextualMenu is, er...in the works. :)
Please never hesitate to let me know if you have concerns with any administrative action I may make.
