June 2018[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, Humankindbot, does not meet our username policy.
Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 18:17, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I've renamed and unblocked your account. PhilKnight (talk) 23:07, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I would also encourage you to discuss the changes you want to make on article talk pages(or in another general forum); there may be reasons "mankind" is used that aren't apparent to you; in most cases we use what the sources use. In any event, if you are citing a specific policy with your edits, you should link to it. 331dot (talk) 18:20, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I'm manually vetting every edit and am leaving intact any quotes or obvious references to the source. One gender neutral language reference is here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Gender-neutral_language and I will add this to future summaries. Humankindbot (talk) 18:31, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You can't use Wikipedia as a ref though, but you can find plenty of gender neutral sources online and off.--Biografer (talk) 18:51, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Right, I shouldn't have called it a reference or policy, the gender-neutral language is recommended in the Wikipedia Manual of Style.Humankindbot (talk) 19:04, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
HumanityNow is a corporate name [1] - FlightTime (open channel) 18:54, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ouch - thanks, I had not Googled that. Humankindbot (talk) 19:06, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, this is exactly what I was about to point out, you beat me by a second. :(--Biografer (talk) 18:55, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What's wrong with Humankind, @331dot:?--Biografer (talk) 19:00, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems generic enough. - FlightTime (open channel) 19:02, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think Humankind is not available. How about HumanityEdits?Humankindbot (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Or KindHuman, if kindness is your goal. :)--Biografer (talk) 19:07, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I kind of like that. :) Though it looks like that's taken, too. Humankindbot (talk) 19:09, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
BS! Non of the names that I mentioned to you are taken. A name is taken only if its user page or user talkpage exists. KindHumanBeing is, but not KindHuman.--Biografer (talk) 19:14, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If KindHuman is available, that works for me. I was testing the names at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:CreateAccount&returnto=Main+Page&campaign=loginCTA and getting: "Username entered already in use. Please choose a different name." Humankindbot (talk) 19:16, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I really can't be of help here, since this is WP:Village pump#Technical issue.--Biografer (talk) 19:21, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
KindHuman should be considered inactive and should be available. (unless I missed something) - FlightTime (open channel) 19:40, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cool. Either KindHuman or Humankind works for me. How do I get unblocked? Humankindbot (talk) 19:41, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla: How can KindHuman be in use if according to this its not? And, when I type in user talk:Kind H... I come up with this only.--Biografer (talk) 20:15, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Sigh, @FlightTime:. I'm baffled by the fact that the name is taken. According to your post on top, its not. Perhaps a decline was a mistake?--Biografer (talk) 20:56, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Biografer: If a request came into ACC with that username, this chart would be used to determine if the "conflicting username" was active or not, in this case the account would be created. - FlightTime (open channel) 21:13, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@FlightTime: According to your post here (in combination with the chart) I see no reason for the account not being granted to this user. According to the chart the editor suppose to make an edit within a year time. This account wasn't used for 5 years. Edit count is 0 since 2012.--Biografer (talk) 21:32, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Was the account created more then one year ago - Yes.
Does the similar account have less then 15 contributions? - Yes. It have a zero.
If yes, Was the account's last contribution made over one year ago? - Yes. Five years max. It have a zero since 2012.
Therefore, denying an account is meritless.--Biografer (talk) 21:45, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Or am I missing an entry somewhere?--Biografer (talk) 21:45, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Biografer: If an Admin wants, it's totally fixable. If I were you I'd drop the stick :P - FlightTime (open channel) 21:54, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime: So what you are saying is that if an admin wants, he can grant, but if the admin have a will of not granting on just because clause he wont? Makes no sense to me so far. If possible, can you elaborate please?--Biografer (talk) 22:10, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, I think I'm done here, seems to me you what to turn this into something bigger than it is. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 22:16, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime: I'm sorry, I didn't meant to say it in a hurtful way. I just want to understand it better that's all.--Biografer (talk) 22:25, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@FlightTime: Like, apparently I misread this comment of yours: If an Admin wants, it's totally fixable, and that is why I asked for clarification. Like, what's fixable? The chart?--Biografer (talk) 22:30, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The rename tool I have available to me automatically checks for close usernames. It denied my request to rename the account to KindHuman and also denied my request to rename to Humankind. I could have overridden the tool, as you point out. I am not sure I'd characterise my decline as a mistake. It was accurate, the two usernames were in use. However, I could have pointed out they could usurp the username if they wished. --Yamla (talk) 23:18, 17 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Yamla: Thank you very much for clarification. @FlightTime: That is exactly why I was unable to drop a stick, but since Yamla explained the reason (and it was very convincing), I am dropping the stick. :)--Biografer (talk) 01:24, 18 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message[edit]

Hello, KindOfHuman. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
