Re: Advice regarding citations[edit]

Hello there, sorry for the delay. Regarding your question about citations, if the mail and emails are public (in example, they can be checked in a site, book, magazine or another printed media), then you can cite them with the {{cite book}} or {{cite email}} templates. However, if those mails and letters are not public (in example, they were sent to you personally), then they can not be used, as that would be considered original research. I do not know how Wikisource works, but it might be possible to include that information as added value if you release the letters under a free license, and then point your references to Wikisource. Again, I am not sure if this is "legal", or if such letters can be included. Remember that editors need to prove the validity of their contributions, so unsourced statements can be deleted at will. Good luck! -- ReyBrujo 20:11, 3 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Delany tagging[edit]

Thanks for the head's up :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 17:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I would keep the seperate articles. However the content of the article may need to change so that their focus shift towards the particular individual novel or the series as a whole in hte case of that article. If there is overlap that can be placed in the series article and refered to in the individual articles. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:37, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops![edit]

Missed Nova (novel) and Return to Nevèrÿon as well - thanks for the heads up! And to think that was in user oversight mode - not automated. <sigh>. As for the non-LGBT content, I've read about half a dozen of Delany, but certainly not all. I semi-assumed (knowing I was wrong) that most of his works had LGBT content. If you run across some of his books that don't have LGBT content, would you remove the tag? Thanks again for your help! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 04:43, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Change to Samuel R. Delany page was not vandalism. (Reply)[edit]

"Stratum" is the singular for "strata". The wording was correct and was not vandalism, therefore the threat of banning was not appropriate. Just thought you should know. --Kdring 00:19, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching my mistake! I hope to be more careful from now on (with reverting and warning). Again thanks! Cheers, S.D. ¿п? § 01:24, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Triton[edit]

I placed the 'fact' tag not for a reassurance of the subtitle of The Dispossessed (I have a copy too - in fact, by odd coincidence, I happen to be reading it right now) but rather for the statement that Delany intended Triton to be a response to Le Guin's novel. It's the sort of thing that makes a lot of sense and I'll bet it is true, but it sure would be nice to have a source to back that up. -- Antepenultimate 03:07, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, and thanks for caring! IMO, anytime a statement begins with "So-and-so said..." (in this case, "Delany has said...") and ends without a source, a 'fact' tag is gonna rear its ugly head. Anytime someone can get rid of one, it's a big improvement. Thanks again -- Antepenultimate 03:49, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Delany Neveryon-Series.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Delany Neveryon-Series.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:59, 27 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delany[edit]

Thanks for your note on my talk page, and thanks for creating the Delany articles. I always try to get a first edition cover, but am uncomfortable deleting covers that others have uploaded, so I generally move them down the article.--Rtrace (talk) 16:29, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Locus index indicates that the Incunabula limited edition of Atlantis: Three Tales is the first edition. I have a picture that edition in in Chalker and Owings The Science-Fantasy Publishers and it appears identical to the Wesleyan edition except that it is gray (just as you say). Unfortunately, the image is too small to upload and I couldn't find another image of the limited edition. Interestingly, Chalker/Owings say the Wesleyan edition came first. However, both Locus and ISFDB disagree with that and Chalker/Owings is somewhat infamous for having mistakes.--Rtrace (talk) 18:19, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for mentioning the listserve. However, I'm a little embarrassed that I've not actually read much of his work. I've attempted Dhalgren, and the first Neveryon book, but finished neither. I've got most of his early work, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have actually read the two Wonder Woman comics he did. The reason I've been updating his articles is that I've been working my way through Donald Tuck's Encyclopedia of Science Fiction and Fantasy and adding details to articles that exist. I'll go a little deeper with some authors (Tuck only goes through 1968) and have treated the bibliographies of Bradbury and Clarke similarly. It's probably a little odd that I seem to enjoy looking up all this bibliographical data, but I do.--Rtrace (talk) 23:44, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rtrace, many people find Delany's earlier work more accessible than his modern stuff (more street, less classroom). Try to take him in chronological order and follow his evolution (skipping the porn, if you wish, and the other non-sf). Kdring, next time you correspond with Chip, tell him Orange Mike in Milwaukee says "Hi!" and hopes to see him at more WisCons! --Orange Mike | Talk 18:23, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to oblige. The only reason I hadn't done Dark Reflections previously was that the Locus Index is only complete to 2006. I don't know when they put out the 2007 pages. Regardless, the Library of Congress had the info, so I was happy to do the infobox. It was also easy to find a cover image. I've also put a 1st edition cover out for They Fly at Çiron. Also, I meant to thank you for verifying the 1st edition of Atlantis. I'm impressed at you for knowing him, and at him for being so accessible--Rtrace (talk) 20:31, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"award-winning"[edit]

"Award-winning" is the kind of peacock term we try to avoid in articles, especially the lede; you won't pass Featured Article review with that phrase in place, for example. That's not to put down Chip in any way (he and I go back a ways). --Orange Mike | Talk 20:26, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Delany Empire-Star.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Delany Empire-Star.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:10, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"vandalism"[edit]

No, it's not vandalism. It's called HUMOR and it's highly relevant, given that the alleged book doesn't have a release date yet that I have seen.

In other words, this is a wiki about something that does not actually exist. It's not supposed to feature information that cannot be independently verified or cited elsewhere, nor is a wikipedia article supposed to be a thinly disguised product annoucement. So at this stage my "vandalism" is as valid as the article itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gea-141020 (talkcontribs) 15:32, 17 September 2009

The article Jeromy Cox has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this newly created biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Longer Views[edit]

The article Longer Views has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No claim of notability for this book (author is notable, so as alternative could redirect to his page).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
