Stone Mountain image[edit]

Hi Judith. You would be free to use the image in your book. However, in order for you to meet the terms of the licence, the image must be provided with a copy or link to the licence ([1]) and direct attribution to myself on the photo page. This is may be unacceptable for your book but these are the terms of Creative Commons licenced images. If you are interested, however, you could email me (here) and we could discuss you purchasing the image with much less restrictive terms of licencing. Welcome to Wikipedia! I see you've been editing this article, which, of course, has the same name as your username. If this is an article about yourself, I'd just like to inform you about Wikipedia's guidelines about conflict of interest. It is generally recommended that one avoids editing articles about oneself, or at least excersize great caution while editing the article. This is because it is often difficult to write about oneself in a neutral point of view. This section of the Conflict of Interest policy gives advice to users who may have conflict of interest. It lists some of the things you can do uncontroversially, eg. removing vandalism, fixing spelling, etc. So far, your edits appear generally to be fairly neutral, but it would be helpful nonetheless to read the policy. Thank you, and happy editing, Brambleclawx 14:08, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

July 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from Judith Dupré. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 16:37, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Judith Dupré, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. -- Rrburke (talk) 17:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

August 2010[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Adrian Smith (architect). Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 16:43, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Ollie, I'm new to Wikipedia. My page, Judith Dupre, has a notice that other articles should link to mine. Adrian Smith, a dear colleague of mine, provided an extensive interview in my book, Skyscrapers, 2008, which discusses the new directions of his new architect firm. The mention of this interview seems to be legitimate. I am utterly confused as to how to establish my credentials on Wikipedia. Everything in my article is verifiable by organizations like Yale and publications like the NYT and Wall Street Journal. I've requested help from "editor assistance" but haven't heard back from them. Thanks for any light you can shed. JudithJudithdupre (talk) 20:54, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Surely you can understand that adding a gratuitous mention of an interview you conducted and a link to a bookstore page selling a book that you wrote are inappropriate? I suggest that you take a step back from editing about yourself and find an article that is unrelated to yourself or your career to do some learning with. - MrOllie (talk) 22:22, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You should wait for others to write an article about subjects in which you are personally involved, instead of writing it yourself. This applies to articles about you, your achievements, your band, your business, your publications, your website, your relatives, and any other possible conflict of interest.

Creating an article about yourself is strongly discouraged. If you create such an article, it might be listed on articles for deletion. Deletion is not certain, but many feel strongly that you should not start articles about yourself. This is because independent creation encourages independent validation of both significance and verifiability. All edits to articles must conform to Wikipedia:No original research, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, and Wikipedia:Verifiability.

If you are not "notable" under Wikipedia guidelines, creating an article about yourself may violate the policy that Wikipedia is not a personal webspace provider and would thus qualify for speedy deletion. If your achievements, etc., are verifiable and genuinely notable, and thus suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later. (See Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles.) Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:45, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. My major "sin" here appears to be misunderstanding Wikipedia's guidelines -- I'm trying to get up to speed! My work is notable per Wikipedia's guidelines, supported by many articles in major national media: see Reviews section at http://www.judithdupre.com/. If you are able to help edit the Judith Dupre page, I could provide you with any citations needed. After dedicating 30+ years to my work, it is deeply upsetting to see the comments at the top of the article. Many, many thanks, Judithdupre (talk) 23:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Judith. I noticed your reply on my watchlist and though I'd just say that the maintenance templates at the top of the article are not at all intended to reflect negatively on your work or on you personally. They are intended to simply alert other capable editors to places where the article could be improved. However, I will agree that the set of templates there now do not reflect the present state of the article. I've tweaked things a bit. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 17:06, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much, Mendaliv! Are you game for further improvements? Judithdupre (talk) 16:14, 12 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, Judith. I'm sorry for the delayed reply. I don't mind helping out with the article some more, though if you've got some ideas you might find it best to drop them at Talk:Judith Dupré. Other editors might see them sooner. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 01:25, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your autobiography[edit]

Please see my comments at WP:EAR, then take a look at the page about you and its Talk:Judith Dupré page. I've spent a while cleaning the article up to Wikipedia standards for you, so you can now see what you are left with. Use the article page history to compare side-by-side the two versions so you can see exactly what I have done, and why. If there is anything you don't understand, or you wish to discuss the suitability of any sources you may wish to use, please do not hesitate to ask me on my talk page. I'm here to help.--Kudpung (talk) 13:50, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
