A belated welcome![edit]

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Johnny Cyprus. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:56, 18 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cecil Chisholm[edit]

Hi welcome to Wikipedia, your article Cecil Chisholm is a good start. Can I suggest you add ISBN numbers to the books. That will then add a link so anyone interested will be able to locate them on the web. See below for an example of how it works, just click on the blue link. If you need any help just ask. Jim Sweeney (talk) 18:59, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ford, Ken (2011). D-Day 1944 (3): Sword Beach & the British Airborne Landings. Oxford, UK: Osprey Publishing. ISBN 9781849087216.

Thanks I will put the ISBN numbers in. I am still confused about the transfer from my Sandbox to Wikipedia. Do I need to do anything? The article doesn't seem to be in the Wikipedia index of articles (it doesn't show up when I put Cecil Chisholm in the search box).

Regards ~~Johnny Cyprus~~ 24 Aug 2011

I now see that the article is there; but I have not done anything. Maybe it takes time to get registered? Did I do the right thing with moving it, or did you take care of things.

I'll get on with the ISBN numbers, but it would be nice to know the ropes.

Regards ~~Johnny Cyprus~~ 24 Aug 2011

It there see number 3 on the list here [1] must just have been a time lag. Jim Sweeney (talk) 19:21, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 19:34, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well thanks; I have been putting four tildes, but maybe I should not be putting my user name and date in the middle? The user interface and protocols are very confusing for an old bloke like me. Maybe something could be done about it. I tried using templates, but they don't look a thing like th templates I was used to.

all the best.

New Article and Categories[edit]

I have created the article 'Mabel Capper'. I hope that it OK. I wanted to put her in a category 'Suffragettes', but it seems there is not one. Maybe there should be because it is not the same as 'Suffragists'. Can anyone help please?

Johnny Cyprus (talk) 14:09, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From a quick check, the category "Suffragettes" seems not to have ever existed. This may be because, according to our article Suffragette, in the USA the term was mainly used only as a pejorative. However, it may be the case that to categorise certain activists as having been "Suffragists" is misleading, since in the UK the term was used solely to refer to members of the NUWSS. Perhaps the category should be created. I suggest you discuss it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Feminism, as the people at that project may have views on the advantages and disadvantages, or may have some background knowledge of why the one category exists and the other doesn't.
Incidentally, your article Mabel Capper says that she campaigned against "bad luck" - is there a better way of phrasing this? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 14:49, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you I will see what they think.

I did wonder about 'bad luck'. However it was a phrase Mab used herself. I think she meant people who might have been unlucky through illegitimacy and so on, or had fallen on hard times. Any alternatives appreciated.
