Daffy "Dumas" Duck[edit]

Hi, John. I just saw your edits to Daffy Duck and Porky Pig where you inserted middle names or "real" first names. Well, I've reverted both, but I wanted to explain why. In the case of "Daffy Dumas Duck", the name is used exactly once, in the short "The Scarlet Pumpernickel". This is just a gag — Alexandre Dumas was the writer of The Three Musketeers and other swashbuckler books that were in the same genre as The Scarlet Pimpernel, the book upon which this cartoon is based. In other words, Daffy does not really have an "official" middle name.

As for "Porcine" for Porky Pig, a mention in one publication is hardly reason to add a bit of trivia to the article. In general, I try to avoid adding trivia to articles unless it can be added into the flow of the rest of the piece naturally. In this case, I think it's probably best to leave that off; "Porcine" didn't even appear in any of the cartoons, just in a book about them. Without seeing the actual page and reference in context, I can't help but thinking it was probably used as a gag, as well.

At any rate, just consider that there really is no Warner Bros. "canon", and it would be impossible to fit all the cartoons into some sort of logical sequence that remained internally consistent. Is Yosemite Sam a cowboy, or a Confederate soldier? Is the moon destroyed after the short where Bugs fights Marvin the Martian there? Is Porky Pig a fat gold digger or a cute little boy? You see what I mean? One-off gags are probably not worth trying to make sense of in the greater scheme of the cartoons as anything more than that — one-off gags.
