AfD nomination of Loïc Abenzoar

An editor has nominated Loïc Abenzoar, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Loïc Abenzoar and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Template:Coupe de la Ligue

I've undone your edits to the Template:Coupe de la Ligue because the Coupe de la Ligue, in it's current format, was founded in 1994 and there were no seasons in years prior to this.

Aaron carass (talk) 02:02, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Doesn't it look better like this
then like this
The years lining up in the old version was quite nice, I thought, and in keeping with other similar templates.
Aaron carass (talk) 20:41, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
The unbalanced feel won't be so apparent in two or three seasons time.
As alternatives take a look at User:Aaron carass/SandBox.
Aaron carass (talk) 21:31, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Not sure where to stick this so I'll just put in here... People who understand the various league cups might take for granted
how each team made it into the competition. I'd like to see more details on how the teams get into the Coupe de la ligue.
Not just who, but also *exactly* how. It seems pretty straight-forward with the later rounds, but the page could benefit
from some details on how the lower league teams get to the early rounds. specifically, the tour préliminaire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.133.84.41 (talk) 15:42, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

I have removed the template from the above article again. A current event template is supposed to be used to warn our readers that an article is being massively edited and/or rapidly changing. If an article is stable (as is the case with Championnat National 2008–09 right now), there is no reason to warn our readers. Templates like this one are not supposed to be used to merely inform our readers that something is ongoing, since that is already obvious from the article itself. --Conti| 17:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Re: Ligue 1 top goalscorers

Sorry if I have caused a slightly sour mood, but it simply looks strange if there are any goalscorers in the article while the league and results tables are still blank. Furthermore, once a chunk of matches have finished, updating can get really troublesome if there have been 20,000 edits inbetween. Just have a look at the Premier League article on matchdays.

As for the live updating during single matches - we have had this discussion countless times over at WT:FOOTY. The most of us would like to see it inhibited in some way exactly because of WP:NOT#NEWS, but it's simply not enforcable.

As a current or past contributor to season articles within Wikipedia:WikiProject Football, I thought I'd let you know about the season article task force, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of season articles of all kind. If you would like to participate, join by visiting the task force page. Thanks!

Anyway, let's hope for good Ligue 1 and Bundesliga seasons. May they be as exciting as the last ones! Cheers, Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 19:50, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

PRODs

Indeed I did check, actually, but it never does any harm to get a second opinion. There's no rush. Why didn't you just change the articles so that they were correct? Black Kite 08:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, but if you don't actually change the articles, then the admin that comes along to delete them may well wonder why the PROD nomination doesn't match the info in the article (and this happened with two different admins here, so it's not unusual). It would probably be best to include the web-address of the player's LFP page in future. Black Kite 09:35, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

RE Gaël Kakuta

Noticed you believed that "the page wont last". Just to clarify, just because he has not made any first team appearances does not mean there is no nobility, due to recent events his notability has been established. Due to the actions surrounding his move to Chelsea a top 4 side has been banned from making transfers and he himself has been fined a substantial amount of money. Hope that puts your mind at ease with regards to the longevity of the article. thanks --Childzy ¤ Talk 22:50, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

GAN notice

Hi Joao10Siamun, you currently have at least one article up a WP:GAN in the Sports and recreation section. In an attempt to clear out the backlog there, User:Wizardman asked all sports WikiProjects to review at least two articles from that section. I'm now going around and asking anybody with an article nominated under Sports and recreation to review at least one article in that section to help us clear the backlog out so your articles can finally be reviewed faster! iMatthew talk at 15:12, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Gaël Kakuta

Hi there. In infoboxes, the dates should be actual dates of play and not seasons; therefore because Kakuta has only played for that team in 2009 (so far), it is incorrect to say he will play for them in 2010 as well. What if he never plays for the team again? GiantSnowman 08:00, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 2009–10 Coupe de France 4th through 7th Rounds

The article 2009–10 Coupe de France 4th through 7th Rounds has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Recreated page due to oversizing.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Joao10Siamun (talk) 00:10, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

82.240.207.81 (talk) 21:57, 23 November 2009 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Please be sure to remain civil in your edit summaries. In three reverts you made to Hatem Ben Arfa you call anonymous editors "Idiot[s]" ([1], [2], [3]). Looking further into your edit summaries I saw similar violations of the civility policy ([4], [5]). In the future, please refrain from attacks such as these and keep in mind that anonymous editors are people too. Thanks and happy editing, Malinaccier (talk) 01:50, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Michael Ciani

Hi, I noticed that you reverted the Racing years in Michael Ciani's article to 2002-2003, but what I put was correct. From here you can see that he made one substitute appearance in the 2001–02 season while they played in the Championnat National. This page shows that he in fact played no games for Racing in the 2002–03 season when they were playing in the CFA. This is why I changed the senior years to 2001-2003. Thanks, -- BigDom 17:38, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Franck Ribéry

The article Franck Ribéry, which you nominated as a Good Article, is undergoing review. The article does not seem to meet the requirements for a good article. Arnaud Gonzalez

Hi there, thanks for pointing out the slight inaccuracy regarding the word "champions" in the article. Of course, I realise that Niort are not the champions of the CFA (yet!), it's just I was writing the article very quickly. I will change it to "winners" now, but I don't agree with you that Niort are "merely the winners of the group" seeing as this is still quite a feat, I'm sure you'll agree :) By the way, what is your source for the Under-19 caps you added to Gonzalez' article, as that could be useful for me? Cheers, BigDom 05:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

True, maybe Niort should be in a higher division, although the last couple of times they've competed in Ligue 2 show why they don't play there any more. Hopefully, we will do better next season in the National than we did in 2008–09! Winning the CFA Group C is maybe not a massive feat in the grand scheme of things, but you can only win the division you're in so no title should be disregarded. Thanks for the website by the way, I'll have a look at that later. BigDom 06:43, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. The Rambling Man (talk) 16:05, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

French football task force

Hi there Joao10Siamun. I'm considering creating a France task force as part of WikiProject Football and as a serial contributor of French football articles I wondered whether you would be interested in joining me? The idea would be to improve coverage of French football (clubs, leagues, players, managers) on Wikipedia by creating new articles and maintaining the existing ones. If I can get enough editors on board, I will be starting up the task force in the forthcoming days. Also, if you can think of any other editors who may be interested that I might have forgotten, please send them a message to let them know about it. Cheers, BigDom 11:03, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello again! The task force is now up and running, if you're still interested in joining. Cheers, BigDom 09:08, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Apologies

Hi there JOÃO (a Portuguese name it seems!), VASCO from Portugal here,

Regarding my edits in César Azpilicueta, i apologize for reverting your work. Was not paying attention, that's what happens when you edit in Wikipedia drunk or sleepy, or both!! Don't worry, i have already reverted to your version, adding some more stuff myself.

Sorry again for any inconvenience, keep up the good work, saluts - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 18:33, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Again, i find that another user at WP does not wish to interact with me (hard to get used to it, but i'll get by), even when i apologize and try to be friendly. OK, here it goes: regarding this same player (or others of course), please do not remove: 1 - geographic regions in intro (or wherever birthplace is located), it's just additional info, no one is saying Navarre is an independent nation; 2 - translated titles of foreign references, this is English Wiki.

Will not bother you anymore, happy life and editing, keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 22:49, 30 June 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reply, João, sorry for my hastiness. As far as regional details on birthplaces, as i edit massively in Spanish footballers, i have VERY often seen the city and the region in the articles, just city in infobox. But i do understand your logic of the simple "click here". Take care - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:17, 30 June 2010 (UTC)
  • About Antoine Griezmann, i duly present my "defense": Ah, and first things first! I should "calm down"...You try and edit in WP for four years, doing my utmost best, and not receive one kind word in exchange, only misunderstandings...Hard to keep your cool that way my friend, although i admit i am not at "my best" in some summaries...

Speaking of contents, which i edited again: i removed overlinking (only one link per item - club, person, city, etc; Real Sociedad was at least linked five times, Spain also), opened club links (i feel clubs should be written in full in storyline, compression in box and honours), italicized (this is English wiki, so i think it's more logic that way) - again, speaking of misunderstandings, i brought up a discussion nine hours ago about competition names, did not get ONE answer (discussions are often replied in 20, 30 minutes), cool! Also, you removed the language templates in external links, what harm did they do, besides "warning" the users of the language the site was in? Also, as in Azpilicueta, i inserted translation of REFS (obligatory when it's a foreign source).

Other than that, i have to say you did a wonderful job at improving the page of this player/person, with many pertinent references and good storyline, i merely improved it (hopefully) - see justifications above.

Have a nice weekend, keep up the good work (if you revert it again, i PROMISE i won't re-revert it), from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:31, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Still about this great young footballer and your recent changes: yes indeed, stuff has been discussed, so i will not make it harder on anyone with competition names, although i disagree, but i don't own WP. However, one thing that has not been discussed are club names in storyline, and i feel they should be complete in storyline, compressed in box. The only situation, so i have been told, where clubs have to be piped in both box and story, is when clubs are English, the rest is up to the given user's liking. Cheers - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:41, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
  • No JOÃO, i did not say there was a "wiki-law" on compressing clubs or not compressing them. One English user, User:GiantSnowman, told me that - only English clubs should be compressed in both storyline and box, the rest was up to the likeness of the various users. I see that you were greatly offended by my "crime" of showing clubs in fullname in storyline, and reverted it without sending me a message, unlike me, which talked to you after my changes. Really, i think it's a matter of taste (not saying that you have bad taste), but what's the problem with having clubs compressed in box (for space purposes of course, but also for a simpler approach) and shown in full in storyline (also aesthetically, i think it's good to have it like that, only once of course)? For some users, i see it's a big deal but don't worry, i will not "ruin" Griezmann's article any more (but you still left Real Murcia and SD Huesca uncompressed...)

About the intro bit - FOOTBALL PLAYER vs. FOOTBALLER - i'll also explain: i prefer "footballer" to avoid word repetition (if you notice, "player" is often followed by "plays"), but i guess i made another crime. Sorry for that as well.

Sorry for any incovenience, good week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 03:34, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the quick reply mate. First of all, sincere apologies for the sarcasm, but i really thought you had reverted my edits at Griezmann because of my personal approach to some articles+edit summaries. Yes, good example with REAL MADRID CF - which i would not mind at all if it appeared in full in storyline - i just never write it in full because i know it will be quickly compressed/reverted. I have been learning the difference between the difference between Featured Art. and Good Art., but in 99% of the edits i have made, i have chosen the approach "compression in box, full name in storyline" - with the exception of R.MADRID of course - and nothing is reverted. Hey, not even (most of) the FC Barcelona players are reverted, which makes me feel not only i have this Modus Operandi.

Will all respect João, you got it wrong about SD HUESCA: i never write just HUESCA in storyline, for the wikilink that is. Of course, if the club is referred to three or four times in a player's article, just HUESCA is enough, i just meant my "wikilink approach", have ALWAYS written SD Huesca, not Huesca. Speaking about common names of clubs, i have often heard Spanish and English newscasts referring to several "REAL" clubs - MURCIA, VALLADOLID, BETIS, etc - without that "appendix", only exceptions being "REAL M" and "REAL SOCIEDAD".

If i made a mistake about the "footballer vs. football player" stuff, i also apologize. Consensus? Did not know there had been a discussion over that, or that it was a WP rule. Again, as in above, i have seen (even in GOOD-near to-FEATURED articles) "footballer" and it seems to be OK. I did not mean to revert your actions "just because".

Yes, again you are right, some of my summaries are very aggressive - contrary to WP guidelines, if i had received one or two block threats that would be admissible - especially towards the user you mention. You took part in the discussion about him, so you know what he is like (not justifying my manners, just my frustration), he has been told repeatedly to "stop doing this"/"doing that differently", does he care? No, he does not, but i really need to tone down, i agree.

Nice talking to you, as always, keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:08, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Re:Dennis Appiah.

Sorry about that; it looked like you had tried to move it from userspace to mainspace, but had forgotten to chop off part of the starting title. It is at User:Joao10Siamun/Sandbox/Dennis Appiah now. Cheers! Wilhelmina Will (talk) 02:28, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

I have moved Joao10Siamun/Sandbox/Chris Mavinga to User:Joao10Siamun/Sandbox/Chris Mavinga. And likewise with User:Joao10Siamun/Sandbox. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:56, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi there JOÃO, VASCO here,

Sorry for my mistake in Griez's article, i clicked on the link of UEFA U-19 2010 and saw "Ukraine" there at the top - they were the title holders - being mislead. Thanks for correcting it.

As far as refs go, i don't know why do you: 1 - have the full name of the organization when only UEFA or UEFA.com suffices; 2 - why the overlinking on the references. I don't understand but rest assured, i will not revert (i know that if i would, you would re-revert it).

Cheers, happy weekend from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 12:35, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your references in Mejía's article. However, i have taken the liberty of removing one of them, as i feel two refs for same news (especially if refs are foreign!) is two much - i opted to keep the most important, Arles' official website.

Again, sorry for my behaviour, thank you for your help - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 13:39, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Lyon pics

Hi Joao. Thanks for pointing out my mistake, I should have thought to check before I uploaded the picture. I have asked for a rename over at Commons and it should be fixed shortly. Thanks again. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 20:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Joao. I have cropped those images for you—take a look at File:Maxime Gonalons.jpg and File:Aly Cissokho.jpg. I have added the Aly Cissokho picture to the article, but I am not sure how useful the Maxime Gonalons picture is because it is not very clear. Let me know what you think. Best wishes, Rje (talk) 13:19, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

What is the source of Ayew U-20 stats that you inserted?--Wrwr1 (talk) 23:59, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Whare did you get an information that he played in 5 matches at the 2009 African Youth Championship? And are you sure that he did't play in any friendly match in 2009?--Wrwr1 (talk) 00:43, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
You should check the rules man I've got full rights to remove the unsourced information. You should prove that yours statistics are correct, not me.--Wrwr1 (talk) 01:18, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
But if you are so lazy to check this, I found in few seconds that they played in a friendly match[7].--Wrwr1 (talk) 01:23, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Another time you tried to be a smart-ass, but hey it's not working. It seems that Ayew played in this match[8]. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wrwr1 (talkcontribs) 01:51, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

France youth teams

Hello! I'm a football statistician, I searched for France youth teams lineups from this period but I couldn't find all. Could you post me the lineups you've got, I'll appreciate it.--Oleola (talk) 17:07, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Benzema

Hello! Benzema could make maximally 4 apps for U17(basically 3, coz training match against France U18 shouldn't be counted).--Oleola (talk) 13:57, 16 August 2010 (UTC)

Your categorized user pages

Hi. You have created articles about some players on your sandbox and also categorized them. However, you should remove them from content categories as per Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing_user_pages. Once they become notable, you can create their pages and properly categorize them. Thanks & Stuff...

Hi there JOÃO (you still haven't told me if it's JOÃO, in case it is, it's a Portuguese name indeed :)), VASCO here,

Thanks for (again) improving Antoine Griezmann article, looking real good for a player his age...I would just like to point out some aspects which were found in his article, for some consideration (in some cases, the last):

1 - i merely inserted, in the last lines of CLUB CAREER, "Spanish top division debut", because "La Liga" was already written (and linked) a mere lines above. I see that here, writing liberties are not well liked (don't know if it's site policy or just the approach of individual users), fine with me, i have seen articles with "La Liga" or other football competition (instead of division, or league) written until the cows came home in just 5, 6 lines, really makes up for a very "mechanical" storyline. And yes, i know, this is an encyclopedia, and some boundaries can not be crossed, but others it's OK do to so in my opinion.

2 (and here for the last time, i see there is no consensus) - the clubs' names: as i said in summary, i have never seen any written rule about the clubs not being allowed to be written in full in storyline, it's not a question of "unnecessary" or "necessary" as you put it, merely an aesthetic issue. In 99,9999% of my articles it is allowed to stay (with the exception of English clubs, hence my reference).

But don't worry, although i will keep doing it in most of my edits, i will avoid doing it in articles YOU edit (French football ones might be your "weapon of choice" i believe, i do not have a preference to be honest). I respect your work and attitude, overall.

Have a nice weekend, keep up the (very) good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:00, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I see that you reverted the addition of the 'Lyonnais Forum' that I added. I have no problem with this at all, albeit I think calling it 'illegal' was rather overstating things. I added the info in as someone had in good faith, I felt, started an article on the forum. I did not feel this warranted an article and created a redirect and added in the basic info. I'm just interested as to why you deleted it as I would have thought that the fact a French club was popular enough in the English speaking world to have an English online forum was an interesting fact to go in a supporter section? Regards Paste Let’s have a chat. 08:40, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the reply, I certainly have no connection with or any interest in that site as I would have thought was obvious from my comments above, and you have an interesting conception of the word 'illegal', perhaps 'against Wikipedia policy' would be more appropriate. Paste Let’s have a chat. 13:09, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

I believe this article you wrote is now ready for GAN. Spiderone 11:19, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks

Not all hope is gone from wikipedia, as long as there are users like you that care. Thank you. --Bocafan76 (talk) 00:22, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Saphir Taider Origin

Regarding Saphir (and his older brother's Algerian origin), Google "De père tunisien et de mère algérienne, Taïder a droit à la nationalité tunisienne" and you will come across articles from LaPresse.tn (Tunisian newspaper) that state that their father is Tunisian and their mother is Algerian. However, since the article is from 2005 you won't find the original only copies of it on forums and what not. If you know anyway of finding the original you can cite it directly. An example : Nabil Taider choisit la Tunisie.TonyStarks (talk) 10:08, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Any updates regarding the sources?TonyStarks (talk) 04:23, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough .. I guess we can't really proceed without a source. In any case, the player himself seems to be interested in playing for Algeria so won't be much longer before some sources become available on the topic. Take care. TonyStarks (talk) 05:55, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I've updated Saphir's article with his Algerian origin. He did an interview with an Algerian football site. I've added the reference to the article and updated it accordingly.TonyStarks (talk) 14:51, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi there JOAO, VASCO here,

obviously i did not remove it, but why do people insert refs for every living sentence in articles, in this case Michael Pereira? Wouldn't it be better to consult - again in this case - RCD Mallorca B's page and verify that what i wrote in storyline is true?

Attentively, keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 17:18, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
