About SAHD article[edit]

Dear JeremyA

Firstly I apologize for my English which is not too good as English is not my mother tongue. I read article on "Stay at Home Dads " on Wiki and felt that authors have created a very rosey picture of this reversal of tradition gender roles in family.I added some negative but true remarks about this type of family. However remarks were removed by the Editor on the ground that they lacked reliable sources. I want to state that my remarks mentioned some universal truths only....for ex boys view their father as role model and in some SAHD families ,boys may follow their fathers and may have less ambition. It is also a universal truth that men who have jobs particularly good jobs have higher self esteem than those men who donot have jobs.Loss of job makes a man submissive to his working spouse. It is true that feminists have strongly advocated women to become independent by holding paying jobs and shedding the status of housewife because in their view there cannot be an equality in marriage unless wife has economic independence and is not dependent on husband. In my view same holds true for men also. I did mention that stay at home dads receive less compensation from Ex breadwinner wives after divorce than what housewives receive from breadwinner husbands.Despite all the efforts and work there is no guarantee that SAHD will get custody of children after divorce.SAHD get alimony in very few cases only -less than four percent. If you have given me time I could have provided links from google search. It is surprising that all the benefits of a stay at home parent which are mentioned in SAHD page are not mentioned in stay at home mother page. dolly 11:28, 1 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dolly5555 (talkcontribs)

allegations of misogynistic attitude on men in SAHD article[edit]

Sir

I added a few lines in "stay at home dads " article thinking that article painted a rosy one sided pictures different from reality. My additions were removed on the ground that any editing should be substantiated by a link to reliable source (printed book, newspaper or website.I merely wrote that boys see fathers as role models and they may loss their ambition and that men with good jobs have more self esteem which I view as universal all time truth.
Anyway I will argue no more on above matter as Wikipedia and Wikipedia editors work on their own guidelines.I have been informed that citations or links from independent, reliable, unbiased source is must. Now how do we decide that a book, website is indeed unbiased and free from prejudices......For Ex if some author creates an article that " women make better managers " in Wikipedia in work or in gender section providing links from works from rabid feminists who in turn may claim that their work is unbiased
and they are not even feminists. We know that many journlists or authors with extreme left or right tilt but still call themselves free, independent and unbiased.
I will quote a few lines from "Stat at Home Dad " article in advantage for the father paragraph.
''Because fathers are immersed in their children's lives, many of the so-called "manly" things men do are pushed aside for their children. This allows children, especially male children, to grow up without a misogynistic outlook on life given to them by their fathers.
Above lines seem to suggest that male children not raised by stay at home dads grow up with misogynistic attitude. As English is not my mother language I looked for meaning of misogynistic --I came to know that it means "hatred of women"
Now this is a very harsh indictment--- Does this mean hundreds of millions of men who grew up in traditional working father families hate women ?
At best they may think household respontibilies are primarily more belonging to wife than husband. But this is not certainly women hatred.Today's men in western societies are even used to housework. We ourselves see that boys raised in traditional families donot hate women or have contempt for women.
I consider this as biased and jaundiced approach and writing. It means that if authors have shown this paragraph from a study then that study itself is biased and not trustworthy.Millions of people use Wikipedia and this type of writing can fill boys and men with guilt and affecting their competitiveness in pursuing a paid career.
I think article on "SAHD" should be more balanced and shown a more realistic view. What about "SAHM" article-- it seems that authors donot seem any benefit in "SAHM" family.May be it is political correctness of present times.
I hope you willnot block me. Of course this talk page is not for my opinion on any matter but I still wanted to communicate to Editor my feelings.Sorry I hope I have not taken much of your time.
                                                                Dolly
06:53, 3 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dolly5555 (talkcontribs)

Oak Park, Illinois page[edit]

Hi Jeremy,

I made a few edits to the Oak Park, Illinois Wikipedia page yesterday, and I notice that you deleted them. As I am new to Wikipedia edits, I'm hoping that you can give me your rationale, so that I don't make a similar mistake with future edits. Your input is much appreciated.

Yours,

Hi. As I explained on your user talk page, the sequence of edits that you made yesterday mostly consisted of adding links to the website of an architectural firm. Wikipedia has guidelines on what external links should be placed in articles that you can read here: WP:EL. —Jeremy (talk) 20:06, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Block[edit]

Hi Jeremy, I saw your block of Purple1342 and do not understand why you did it. The block is placed 5 hours after a single (two reverts in sequence) revert to an article. There was some earlier, 22 Apr 2012, edit warring but the current edits do not appear to be edit warring. Can you explain why you blocked them for a week? GB fan 20:39, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Warring at Liberal Democrats[edit]

Thanks for bringing to my attention that I may be getting sucked into an edit war in this topic. I note that you recently blocked Purple1342 for a week, also for edit warring at Liberal Democrats. The sentence I was trying to amend is one that was originally placed by this user, and is now being defended by multiple IPs. I've now explained the reason for my edit on the talk page, and agree with you that it was a mistake on my part not to have done this earlier. The reason for my mistake is that I felt the reasons for my edit were so clear and logical that they did not require a long explanation. I hope I can learn from this the value of being more prepared to explain what seems obvious to me, and more patient with those who don't see things the same way! PETROPOLIS CATHEDRAL MAUSOLEUM[edit]

Why doesn't the Imperial mausoleum in the Petropolis cathedral have any references given their respected and important part of Brazilian history? 101.161.176.183 (talk) 22:26, 5 June 2012 (UTC) MichaelM[reply]

This question would be better off directed to the Help desk. Queensferry bridge[edit]

Why have you removed my edits about the Queensferry bridge? 138.253.48.190 (talk) 10:44, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We already have an article on the bridge. There is no need to duplicate that information in the bascule bridge article.—Jeremy (talk) 12:52, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is also an article on the Tower Bridge. Yet that is not reverted.
So please tell me (properly and logically this time) - why have you removed my edits about the Queensferry bridge? Cheers. 138.253.48.190 (talk) 08:10, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Other stuff exists. Tower bridge is, arguably, the most famous bascule bridge in the world. We have an extensive article on it and there is a very brief mention in the bascule bridge article. There are many bascule bridges in the world (over 50 in the city I am currently in), what makes the Queensferry bridge so special that it deserves, not only a Wikipedia article, but also that entire article duplicated on the bascule bridge page? The article on the Queensferry bridge is pretty poor at the moment. If you want to help Wikipedia your time would be much better sent improving that article to the level of a featured article.—Jeremy (talk) 11:55, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This was not your original opinion. In the first place, your excuse was related to duplicate information. When I challenged you, you changed your mind and gave me another excuse related to cutting links out. Let me remind you of the basics - the challenge of wikipedia is to map an increasingly _complex_ world. Yet you are fixated on simplifying it. If there are many bascule bridges in the world, then it is your job to compile the list into something presentable, not to gratuitously delete links that don't fit into your Weltanschauung. Do your job.138.253.48.190 (talk) 12:46, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WTF? In every reply to you I have said exactly the same thing. When you asked for more info I gave you more info. Then you complain that I gave you more info. Stop wasting your and my time. —Jeremy (talk) 14:27, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Ravenswood Branch (CTA)[edit]

Hello there, as it seemed to me that you have redirected the article I have made under the name "Ravenswood Branch (CTA)." Ecclesfield Wikipedia page[edit]

Jeremy A,

I invested a great deal of time researching and writing a factual and thoughtfully put together improvement to the Ecclesfield, Sheffield, Wikipedia page yesterday.

I then returned later that night to see you had taken it upon yourself to delete my contributions, and return the page to its bland, original state which omits numerous important facts and, is moreover misleading to the reader about the actual nature of Ecclesfield.

I put it to you that Wikipedia is an open forum, unlike other media platforms, that allows for multilateral page editing, and encourages the respect of other people's contributions.

I find your response of simply deleting my work here - and your derisory and erroneous comments about 'unattributed trivia' and 'flowery language' usage rather obnoxious to say the least, and utterly contrary to the spirit of the site.

I am in fact the former local newspaper editor. I do not use flowery language. It is called journalism. I did not include any unattributed trivia (the original page's information wasn't attributed in truth) and I have already received spontaneous praise about my improvement to the page from the local Conservation Society, who 'enjoyed' reading the article.

I have re-edited the page, once again. I have a saved copy. And I would appreciate you operating hereafter with a little more respect for others as a fellow Wikipedia user.

I am more than willing to discuss any suggestions you may have for improving or editing my contributions. That is part of the community life of Wikipedia. But I am not willing to simply be silenced or deleted, in total, by someone who seems to arbitrarily think they have the ultimate editorial authority as to what information is posted or not.

If you delete my work again, I will be contacting senior moderators centrally, to deal with your domineering behaviour. They have the power to revoke your privileges.

Best wishes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dolby 25 (talkcontribs) 09:16, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OZODOR articles[edit]

I'd like to ask for your comments on the proposed merger of the recently created South Side Elevated (CTA) into Green Line (CTA). This was done by the same user who created the Ravenswood branch article that was merged into the Brown Line article. Looking at his user page it looks like he's preparing to create two new articles which would really be sub articles of Green Line and Red Line (CTA), neither of which are developed enough to have such pages. I tried explaining to him that we don't create sub pages like that until ready for them, but he either doesn't understand or doesn't care. He also created an article (since speedily deleted) on a fictional Gold Line of his own devising. I ask for your assistance because he seems to be becoming quite irate. He has made some good edits I would rather not be the cause of the loss of a member of the Wiki community. Lost on Belmont 3200N (talk) 03:52, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sheffield and Rotherham Railway Map[edit]

Hi JeremyA, I have removed your map of the S&R from the Sheffield_and_Rotherham_Railway page as it gives the wrong impression about ownership of the line from Sheffield to Rotherham. See the article edit summary.

Waugh Bacon (talk) 01:38, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and thanks for the response on my talk page, but I have identified a general problem with the map, if it represents railways in 1855. The North Midland and the (unidentified) S&R had become part of the Midland Railway before 1855. Also the NMR never owned track between Sheffield and Rotherham. If you just strike out 'North' from Noth Midland railway in the map's legend (and shift the text left) it would be more accurate. See North_Midland_Railway and Midland_Railway for dates of mergers etc. Thanks for taking the trouble of tracing the map image.

Apology[edit]

Dear JeremyA, I am sorry for the problems I have caused you, well, the copyright problems that I have caused you! I wish you best to luck and I know that you deleted those photos because you were preventing me from getting banned from the commons! I wanna let you know that I will be on hiatus for a while, so please keep the articles of CTA up to date and don't abandon them! I only used those photos because I was trying to keep all of those articles up to date and I didn't want to leave them hanging! I thought that I was doing some work, but all of that failed miserably! I will return in February, but please help out with those articles or they will just be old an abandon! Thanks for the help and all of your good work! I will see you soon! Hand-coding[edit]

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo here. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at okeyes@wikimedia.org and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at 23:00 UTC in #wikimedia-office connect. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:34, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Message from OZODOR's IP Address[edit]

Dear JeremyA, I wanna know why you blocked me on Wikipedia instead of the commons! Wikipedia has nothing to do with what I did on the Commons, so I refuse that you unblock me from Wikipedia please! Also, you guys have too many strict policies on the Wikimedia Foundation and just because you are so much better and advanced at these things doesn't mean you guys have to pick with the underclass users! Give us a chance and maybe we can find a way to work out our on problems! We don't need the admins on our behinds all the time, trying to make us look like pity fools! Is Wikimedia about the projects and the arts or is it about trying to make others look like the bad ones? We need to discuss these issues ASAP! 71.95.67.37 (talk) 01:19, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You added to Wikipedia articles copyrighted material that you did not own or have permission to use from the copyright holder. You have been asked nicely not to do this on multiple occasions. I have even tried to explain to you how you can find photos on flickr that the copyright holder has given permission to use—instead of following this advice you chose to try deceit to add stolen photos to Wikipedia articles. As a consequence of your actions you are now blocked for a month at both Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Commons, and I stand by both blocks. Should you wish another admin to review your block you can place the code {{unblock | reason=your reason here ~~~~}} on your talk page.—Jeremy (talk) 15:01, 20 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure exactly how I became this guy's keeper, but I'm at a loss on this one. He's inserting images that other editors uploaded to Commons.
