Wow, thanks for the kind words jane avriette. I felt kinda bad about placing tags in that article and not being able to replace the dead links, but it's outside my immediate expertise such that I would have access to newer reliable sources. I do though appreciate the nice message! I joined Wikipedia a couple years ago but only recently have gotten the bug to edit a bit, and I'm definitely trying to keep away from controversies and things that would make contributing decidedly not fun!! lol. smart onboard data interface module

Thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia, and I appreciate the beverage very kindly. I have read much of the rules and policies that seem to be neverending. I am the "Technical Graphic Specialist" or tech writer and graphic designer for the manufacturer of the SMODIM. I am also in the process of trying to get it trademarked. That is part of the reason for the contribution to Wiki. Yes my employer asked me to do this. Now I have been accused of "copyright violation" of my own writing and photography. The SMODIM is an advanced and unique component that has been in use by the military since 1998 and cannot be found anywhere else. The description is what it is, and difficult to change. Should I not reference our company website? I am stuck and not sure what to do about this. I wrote all the material on our website and intended to contribute to the Wiki [Tactical engagement simulation] page, but hesitate at this point. Do you have any advice or suggestions? Hi SusanDJones - I'm glad you enjoyed the bev'! But I'm sorry to hear you're stuck! I only have a few mins, but let me respond as effectively as i can w/in that limited time (and I'll mix general advice and observations w/ specific suggestion(s)). I'm a content-creator on wikipedia, b/c I like to write and have always been good at it, so i contribute to articles that interest me. And b/c I'm also a great researcher, I enjoy the challenge of finding reliable sources and citing things properly and digging up photos that are suitably licensed, etc. I try to stay very far away from the "administrator"-class of user on Wikipedia, not b/c they're bad or anything, but rather, b/c they're involved w/ compliance and resolving disputes and banning editors who are disruptive or abusive or who violate policies, etc. They also try to protect the integrity of the overall project - very noble. But I just never want to seek out situations in which they're active b/c there's usually conflict or dispute. SO i did my best to learn about the manual of style and understand how and when to cite and source and even more importantly, how to avoid copyvios, or even the appearance therein, b/c that's when the admins get involved! lol.

I've noticed that there is a lot of concern in general here about copyright violations and "paid-for" editing, when companies pay people to write articles about their products/services/orgs, which is sometimes fine and done well, but often in direct conflict w/ wikipedia policies or community guidelines. So I'm not surprised that you've gotten caught up in an aspect of that, but I'm sure you can navigate through it and then get back on to contributing...

A general suggestion would be to be as open and honest as you can be when compelled to interact w/ admins or editors who are more focused on the administration and bureaucractic processes and operations than on creating content, so that they don't have reason to suspect any nefarious intent or desire to exploit wikipedia for personal or professional gain. You've already been very frank and explained that your employer asked you to take some time for this, and that a trademark is being pursued, but in this discussion you will have or are having w/ the user(s) who suggested you were COPYVIO'ing, I would make it very, very, very clear to them that you're not editing this article because you hope to use the appearance of the article to benefit the company, but rather, because the subject is "notable" in and of its own right, and that your company feels the same (although of course they're aware that their notable product(s) being fairly and neutrally covered in wikipedia is not likely to hurt their business).

I don't know the details of your situation w/ the company and I'm not familiar enough w/ the copyrightvio stuff to recall how it's written, but it's not unreasonable that pasting verbatim text from somewhere else would raise a warning flag. But you must totally not take this personal and have to be Zen/Buddha like in your interactions w/ others and the wikipedia system, which can be surreal at times. The situation may very well be that you own the copyright to the content you want to add to wikipedia, b/c you created it and only make it available to your company under a license and that they are find with your also putting the material into wikipedia (under whatever "license"(from Creative Commons) best meets your needs). It might be that your employer owns the copyright now b/c of the terms of your employment...but they obviously weren't objecting to your adding the material...in which case you just need to be able to explain to the satisfaction of who(m?)ever it is that is suspicious what the arrangement is.

Just make it clear that you're NOT being paid by your company or any other to edit Wikipedia and that you're not trying to add inappropriate material and that you endeavour to comply w/ all the policies, and if applicable, explain that you're in a unique situation b/c you actually hold the copyright for the material in question (if that's the case) or that you have the permission of the company to use the material in wikipedia.

And keep in mind that it's a surreal system sometimes but make it clear you're not a threat or a troll or an exploiter, don't get defensive even if it's suggested youre all three (and a copyvio'er, too!), and ask for help like you started to at the military history project. Make it clear you would welcome the assistance and guidance of the person who accused you - that it'd be more helpful to your efforts to contribute for them to help you and not accuse you. ... Clarify some of the stuff I mentioned here for them...to put them at ease, you know. And just assume and act in good faith and don't ever get defensive or provoked, and eventually you'll get back down under the radar and can stay and operate their indefinitely...until the next time, when it'll be easier for you to address any concerns. Good luck!!! PS. And if someone is objecting to content you added, then simply ask them what they think the problem is, and ask them to tell you specifically what the concern is and how to address it. But don't get discouraged or give up, whatever your motives or interests. For someone who enjoys writing, it can be quite satisfying - even the aspect of surviving the bureaucracy, I mean! I've told them I am the original author of the material, and I have asked several times what is the problem and what I can do about it. I've read and read the rules and am trying to determine what I need to do before I continue further. It appears I need to provide some kind of license agreement. I'll figure it out. Hi SusanDJones. I left comments on both the article talk page and the discussion section of milhistoryproj. expressing my support for your effort and encouraging the other editors to not simply object to your contributions, but assist you w/ explicit instruction as to what was necessary to alleviate their concerns. I completely understand that it can be frustrating or discouraging to be accused of copyvio, especially when you're just trying to contribute (and these concerns weren't presented to you with the most collegial, low-key, or cooperative tone/feeling/energy - I'd HATE to be almost immediately accused by some pseudonym of having intentionally committed copyvio in my first article, when I'd written the text in the first place! lol...)

That said, hopefully they can take you step by step through whatever process they'll want to rely on to address this. Again my best advice is not to take any of it personally, and use this as a chance to gain a very explicit understand of the whole copyright/copyvio issue and policy & process so that you never get tripped up like this again. Oh - have you only edited/created articles for work-related subjects? Obviously I know nothing about you as a person, but there can be great satisfaction in contributing useful material to subjects you're personally interested in, too, that aren't necessarily in your professional field. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive

Hey y'all, the April 2021 WikiProject Military History Reviewing Drive begins at 00:01 UTC on April 1, 2021 and runs through 23:59 UTC on April 31, 2021. Points can be earned through reviewing articles on the AutoCheck report, reviewing articles listed at WP:MILHIST/ASSESS, reviewing MILHIST-tagged articles at WP:GAN or WP:FAC, and reviewing articles submitted at WP:MILHIST/ACR. Service awards and barnstars are given for set points thresholds, and the top three finishers will receive further awards.
