Drug Therapy Problems

To: Cassandra 73

Thank you for cleaning up wikipedia of spam, but I must ask you to reverse your speedy deletion of Drug Therapy Problems. This section actually can not be reworded because it is technical information that is defined by those exact phrases. I listed one copyrighted source as an example that I didn't just pull it out of my hat, but in fact I could list 100's of sources. This is a very important topic because it correlates to many other disciplines related to pharmacy and drug therapy. One author does not hold copyright to these definitions as they are national guidelines that are then talked about in vast medical literature specifically pharmacy related. comment added by speedymarathon (speedymarathon) —Preceding undated comment added 09:20, 26 January 2010 (UTC).

I'm not an administrator so I can't reverse the deletion myself, but it may help if I clarify why I tagged it. There was no indication on the website it appeared to come from that the text was in the public domain. Brief quotes can be used in an article if correctly attributed, but if the entire article matches the source word-for-word this is usually a copyright infringement.
If you disagree and still want the article restored, you can contest this at Deletion Review (WP:DRV). Cassandra 73 (talk) 17:31, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for reverting the SPAM in this page - I did the same yesterday! Since the spammer changes his address, I've asked (and got) page protection (three days granted). Keep up the good work - it can be hell out there!

Since you seem keen to revert vandalism, you might like to consider using Twinkle - where you can easily revert a change and twinkle will make it easy for you to add the standard warnings - I think you need to be autoconfirmed first (4 days and 10 edits).

Another useful tool is Vandal fighter for seeing in real time which pages have been edited. I used this for quite a while until I got enough experience to be able to get roll-back rights to use Huggle  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:48, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

re: Farmers Home Administration

Thanks for your early intervention. The long programmatic notice that I got for trying to correct a simple error in spelling, albeit with the article title, was totally off-turning. I have enjoyed making some small contributions to Wikipedia in the past, but I was ready to hang up my editing spurs after that one. Had I been a complete newbie, I probably would have quit right then and there. When I saw the missing link in the Reformers ousted, I spent a fair amount of time researching the rural and agricultural programs arising from the New Deal. There are many things that need to be added to what I think is an important article about that activity. But I was not about to pursue that project after the abrupt digital slap on the hand for my boo boo. I almost didn't even return to see whether the problem was resolved. I was preparing a caustic "Dear Jimmy" message in my head. But I went to the watchlist out of habit and saw that you had made the needed correction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Grapeguy (talkcontribs) 16:05, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

COI/N update, re: promotional bouncing balls flying down hills

Greetings!

I wanted to let you know that I accidentally bumped into your COI/N incident report by mistake after apparently being lost in the massive spam overload of the page on the questionably-placed huge incident up top for almost 48 hours. It seems to have fixed itself for now, but I gave out a full opinion here if you'd care to read. Really, sorry it got missed, but with the trainwreck there right now I can (unfortunately) see how it was glanced over since there aren't many true patrols active there (was there at random myself, for that matter). Hiya Cassandra. (Any connection to Cassandra, prophetess of doom?) Thanks for your work identifying usernames that fail our username policy, every report I've seen has been right on the money. Do you have the Twinkle tab that says "csd" loaded up, and are you interested in tagging (most of) these userpages per WP:CSD#G11? It would be more efficient if I could make the deletion call at the same time I'm making the call on blocking, since once I've read everything I need to read to make one call, I'm in a position to be able to make the other call. Just a suggestion ... do whatever work you're comfortable doing. (watching) - Dank (push to talk) 14:02, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Ta

for the move of my comment. Peridon (talk) 20:41, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

It's a little complicated

mainly because different admins tend to look at different things. It's quite likely that a real estate agent who goes by User:IdahoRealEstate and creates a promotional page is not going to contribute productively; the question is how to handle it. My advice is to pick one of two directions and go with it ... either be one of those people who argues the close cases, or aim for recognizing the cases that everyone agrees on, and just do those, and leave the close calls alone. Everyone agrees that we should {{uw-softerblock}} User:ReMax if he works for ReMax and talks about that in his edits (unless he's misbehaving badly, in which case we need something stronger, but that's rare). But theoretically, User:IdahoRealEstate might actually listen to what we're saying, and he might start writing about real estate in Idaho in general and drop his WP:COI. Because that's so unlikely, there are admins who are just waiting for reports like that one at UAA, and they pounce and block. Other admins don't like this because it seems to be (and probably is) against policy, and they blame both the blocking admin and the patroller for making their jobs harder. So ... probably best to forget about the "promotionalism" aspect, and instead think about the copyright problem: information can't flow freely if you lose track of who has the copyright (this is giving Google some major headaches with books.google.com), and we can't know which individual has the copyright on the edits if the edits are associated with a company or website. So, just report the users where there's some evidence that it's the name of their company, organization or website, and it's not a company of just one person. For instance, we softerblock an account named after a band only if there's evidence that it's more than just one guy; if it's one guy, then we treat the band name as an alias or pseudonym, and that's okay. (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 22:39, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll take that on board as it’s not my intention to make controversial reports. The board’s meant for blatant violations, so I think anything that might involve a close call can’t really be blatant. Cassandra 73 (talk) 23:50, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

As far as I'm aware, if the text has already been published elsewhere that makes posting it on Wikipedia a copyright violation. Taking it down from the other site doesn't change the fact that it has been published in the past so I don't think it will solve the problem.
If you are the original copyright holder, you can donate the material to Wikipedia - please see WP:IOWN for details. Cassandra 73 (talk) 17:15, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

User:Fischerg & User:Gerryfischer (same editor?)

Hi Cassandra 73.
I am contacting you as you had some involvement with User:Fischergs' user page, see here

They seem to have another account as User:Gerryfischer, as the user pages contents were almost exactly the same.
I gather having multiple accounts (sockpuppets) is not generally allowed.

  • User:Fischerg Userpage diff here.
  • User:Gerryfischer Userpage diff here

The 2nd account came up at AN/I here regarding the content. ie BLP violation. I am not sure where to take this, WP:UAA (similar user names) maybe? or WP:SPI (but it's so obvious), or WP:AN/I as before?, so I came to ask you. What do you think?

ps. We seem to have started editing about the same date, see here
Thank you for your time, regards --220.101.28.25 (talk) 21:53, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
This is a strange case, but I don't think it's serious enough for WP:SPI at this point, since the accounts aren't being used to deceptively give the impression of two different editors or to evade a block. Probably not an issue for WP:UAA, as it's quite specific in it's focus on problems with the username itself, rather than problems implied by the username.
Fischerg has blanked the other user page and neither account has edited for a couple of days; I'd be inclined to take this back to ANI if there's any further disruptive editing from either account or a new account crops up (they may regard it as stale if it was raised now). Cassandra 73 (talk) 22:46, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for getting back to me, Cassandra 73.
I get you points. I imagine our Admins are busy enough with more immediate problems. Seems a case of an editor who does not fully understand what Wikipedia is about. If it's of any interest I found the other account by taking a slab of the blanked text and "Googling" it. I was rather surprised to get a fully matching 'hit'.
FisherG actually made a major addition to Richard Doty, which had been a stub since 2005! I'm looking at whether it is a wp:Copyvio (very possibly a cut/paste from another site) or formatting it properly and getting references to make a decent article. : ) --220.101.28.25 (talk) 11:09, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

AfD - Dustin Robbins

Hello Cassandra! :) I've added my response to the AfD page for Dustin Robbins. A question for you, if you don't mind - I have several other articles that I want to add that are of importance to the Body Modification industry and I want to make sure that I am providing enough support for their inclusion. I have read most, if not all, of the information on creating articles and notability. The biggest issue I have come across is that it is difficult to provide evidence of notability in a case such as Dustin Robbins, where the subject is in an "alternative" industry that few "main-stream" or common media outlets report on. It seems it would leave Wikipedia incomplete to leave out notable subjects simply because they are unconventional or in a small industry, and therefor do not have many of the most commonly accepted sources. This is especially true in an industry such as Body Modification, where many notable subjects make a point to avoid main stream media outlets. Any recommendations? Thank you for your help! Qquackk (talk) 00:39, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Qquackk. Wikipedia’s notability requirements are not the same as the everyday definition of notability; it’s generally determined by the strength of the coverage in reliable sources (see WP:GNG) and evidence of this has to be present in the article (WP:NRVE). Unfortunately if suitable coverage is not available there’s really no getting around that – this is upheld particularly rigorously for articles about living people. Food safety risk analysis

Hello there. This is my first experience creating a Wikipedia article, so I am not sure about the etiquette on these discussion boards, so please forgive me. I am the creator of the food safety risk analysis article. Food safety risk analysis is a relatively new field, and there is a great need to promote the concepts globally. I noticed that much of the article has been removed, and I would like to see if we might be able to come to some kind of agreement in terms of what is appropriate to maintain. While JIFSAN was previously featured on the article, I feel willing to forego this based on the conflict of interest claim. However, we would argue to keep Foodrisk.org links and resources. Foodrisk is a very valuable tool in the realm of food safety risk analysis, and it is possible to find many types of references from many different sources on the site. Foodrisk is meant to work as a database or collection of food safety risk analysis resources, and professionals and academics may find scholarly references to aid in their endeavors. There is a great need for professionals to be able to find training and educational materials regarding food safety risk analysis. Currently, there is a shortage of qualified researchers in the field, and many of the major world organizations such as WHO, FAO, and Codex are working to increase understanding of the domain on a global scale. For this reason, we would please request that Foodrisk information be kept on the article, as well as the original documents provided as a guide for users to rely on as an introduction to food safety risk analysis (these were the bulleted resources, mostly documents, suggested in each of the headed areas). The resources suggested on the original article were hand-selected mainly from governmental organizations and world bodies, by our Risk Analysis Program Manager, a PhD and expert in food safety risk analysis. I hope that we can come to some kind of agreement here that remains un-biased but still allows for a proper and informational introduction to food safety risk analysis.JennJifsan (talk) 13:14, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Foodrisk.org is still there, in the external links section at the bottom. Wikipedia articles can contain links with relevant further reading, although articles should not mainly consist of a collection of links (please see WP:NOTLINK), and these should not normally be in the body of the article (see WP:EL, which is the main guideline on external links). WHO, FAO, and Codex would seem to be acceptable for the External links section per this policy; where possible I would suggest linking to one page per organisation from which the user can navigate to other relevant information to avoid excessive links, and for this reason I would suggest that for Foodrisk.org the existing link is sufficient. (I should point out that your COI extends to Foodrisk.org since JIFSAN are one of the operators of this site.) Cassandra 73 (talk) 22:10, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Okay great. Perhaps a "Further Reading" section would be more appropriate. I created such a section, and included only the most crucial documents here: two general food safety risk analysis papers, one each specifically addressing risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication, and one related to the Food Standards Programme. Also added one additional external link (other than Foodrisk) to the Codex homepage. Hopefully this is a sufficient compromise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JennJifsan (talkcontribs) 14:20, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry but it looks like the company you are writing about doesn't meet Wikipedia's notability criteria (see WP:ORG). This requires significant coverage in secondary sources, which must be independent of the subject (the Healthcare Caterers International newsletter would not count due to the sponsorship).
If you are connected to this company, you may like to refer to Wikipedia's Frequently Asked Questions for Businesses for more information. Cassandra 73 (talk) 16:26, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Oops! My mistake. I should have checked more carefully! On an unrelated note, you should take Courcelles up on his offer. :) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:40, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Two things

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
For your UAA contributions. There's no reason I can find why you shouldn't just be blocking them yourself. Courcelles (talk) 23:21, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

So, in that vein...

Of course you can defer a month or so. Don't avoid me for too long or I might come back and pester you some more. Hope things go well for you at work. Courcelles (talk) 22:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

My detailled explanation of Spiritual Healing - edit conflict

Hi,

I've been working on an expanded section on spiritual healing in the Spiritualism section to expand on the "spiritual healing" phrase on the faith healing page. Please explain why you reverted my edit - I had intended to convert "spiritual healing" from text on the Faith Healing page to a link to the section I'd just added. Adrian-from-london (talk) 21:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

It looked to me like it was in the wrong article, the article is about spiritualism as a religion rather than spiritual healing. I've now seen the conversation with User:Weaponbb7 on your talk page so I can see that you did discuss these changes first, although Weaponbb7 did point out that you will need high-quality sources, and you appeared to be sourcing to an organisation who are promoting spiritual healing which (in my opinion) is not sufficient, it would need independent sources. Cassandra 73 (talk) 22:08, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
So if the website references were removed the article would be acceptable? Adrian-from-london (talk) 22:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
That would still leave it lacking reliable sources. However I think it would be useful at this point to continue the discussion on the article's talk page so that other editors can comment, so I've started a discussion at Talk:Spiritualism#Spiritual healing edit. Keep it up!

Thanks for your efforts, keep it up- and take Courcelles up on his offer! ;) HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:19, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
I was going to wait to bug her until 1 Aug... but since you've gone and done it, well, consider yourself bugged, Cassandra. Courcelles (talk) 23:06, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
I'm thinking about the timing at the moment. It occurs to me it's probably not a great idea to have it going on while I'm working, I already peek at my watchlist at work a bit too often. I'm owed some time off, I really must get it arranged.
Thank you for the barnstar HJ! Cassandra 73 (talk) 19:09, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Cassandra, do you have any idea how much work you standing for RFA would save me? ;) I'll just keep mashing the block and delete buttons until you let me nominate you for your own set... Courcelles (talk) 22:27, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Gazoomy

Hi Cassandra,

I've added further information on the Gazoomy Talk page regarding your feedback on the Speedy Deletion flag. I hope this is suitable, and... am I right to post here...? Sorry if this is the wrong place!? —Preceding unsigned comment added by TMijatovic (talkcontribs) 20:31, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

You posted in the right place. The problem here is that on Wikipedia, notability is demonstrated by coverage in independent sources, for example press coverage or journals; it's not a judgement on how good the technology is. This sounds like it's in development so presumably it's unlikely to have received coverage yet. Cassandra 73 (talk) 20:48, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

Ah, ok. That's a difficult one then. Gazoomy is becoming recognised very fast. In the last week it has gone up in the Alexa rank by over 4 million places. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any press/journal coverage although there does seem to be a fair amount of coverage on blog sites and the like. If it has to be removed at the current time then I will try again in the future when the coverage is more substantial. For now I will flesh out the pages on Google variations to make them more appropriate as there currently isn't a great deal of information on this technology on wikipedia. Thank you for your time Cassandra, this is a learning curve for me!

Responded to your RFPP request; and applied salt to the title. I think there's enough here for an SPI, if you want to start one. Courcelles 11:24, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

You do realize how much easier things would be if you had block and delete buttons of your own, right? Courcelles 11:29, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
I knew that was going to be you when I saw the orange bar. (Didn't you say you weren't going to bug me again until November?)
Seriously, yes, when I see stuff like that Denise Milani business yesterday I'd like to be able to do more. But I'm not sure I'd have been bold enough to do an IAR delete although when I saw you did I thought it was absolutely right. I would probably have semi'd it. I'm still learning, when I come up against stuff like that I learn from it and I'd feel more comfortable that I knew what to do with a mop with a few more experiences that require more judgement than identifying a spam username. Cassandra 73 (talk) 12:04, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
I understand completely. I even sort of felt like a hypocrite pressing the delete button on that one because I'm usually no fan of administration by IAR. Semi wouldn't have been a wrong decision per se, in fact, by the letter of the rules it would have been the correct decision. That's why sometimes the rules don't make any sense; we treat negative unsourced BLP's as attack pages and delete them on sight; but what do you do with negative BLP's that have a veneer of sourcing? As to experiences, I know of where some good hypothetical cases are, if you'd like me to set up some for you to take a look at. Courcelles 22:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, I think that would be a useful exercise for me. Cassandra 73 (talk) 22:01, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Charles Platt article

Cassandra, I understand your concerns with the conclusions drawn. In that case I'd like to post only what is clearly verifiable - namely that Platt wrote an article for Make in which he claimed that DDWFTTW (directly downwind faster than the wind) is not possible, and that a recent world record for DDWFTTW was established. Perhaps the fact that he has been a condescending prick, still does not accept DDWFTTW, and that he won't settle up on his bet with Emilio will have to be left out of it. After all, it's one thing to make a claim that DDWFTTW is not possible, but it's another thing entirely to publish an article in Make magazine with that conclusion, and to insult a fine engineer like Jack Goodman in the process. This is all verifiable and appears in his published article. Spork33 (talk) 18:36, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Now that I've seen your other edits, you are obviously connected to this controversy; you have a conflict of interest and are therefore very strongly discouraged from editing the article. You also made these edits as an IP when you have an account, this could be seen as "editing logged out in order to mislead" per WP:ILLEGIT. If you have some sort of dispute with Platt, his Wikipedia article is not the place to air it. Cassandra 73 talk 19:53, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

My editing while logged out has only to do with the fact that I have extremely little experience with wikipedia. By reducing my edits to the doucumented and relevant facts, they should be completely acceptable. I have no interest in settling a dispute with Platt through wikipedia, and I don't in fact have a dispute with him. I do have an interest in updating this article so that it is a more complete, accurate, and balanced description of Platt - and I will do so. Spork33 (talk) 20:30, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Looking back at the article I see now that my edits appear to be the only edits that require any sort of references or verification. Starting from the top, let's see what statements are without any sort of verification:

- (born in London, England, 1945) - is an author, journalist and computer programmer. - He relocated from England to the United States in 1970, - is a naturalized U. S. citizen - has one daughter, Rose Fox. - is the nephew of Robert, Baron Platt, of Grindleford. - The Silicon Man has been endorsed by William Gibson - Platt was nominated for Hugo awards and received a Locus Award - Charles Platt has also used pen-names... - Platt ceased much of his activity as a fiction writer after 2001 - in 2005 he was offered a contract... - Platt is also known for writing The Gas (novel) -(Girodias also published several of Barry N. Malzberg's early novels.) - When Platt's novel was published in the United Kingdom by Savoy Books in 1980, copies were seized by the UK's Director of Public Prosecutions.

I could go on. But hopefully you get my point. I don't see a bit of evidence for any one of these "facts" or for that matter most any of the rest of the article. My edits at least have valid references. Are we simply going to go back and forth on these edits, or are we going to come to some reasonable compromise? Spork33 (talk) 03:21, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you're right, the article is inadequately sourced at the moment and I'll look into this. (I hadn't seen this article before chancing across your edits.) However with articles about living persons we exercise particular caution with controversial information. Per Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." For the most part your edits did not have valid references.
I'll reply further later as I'm at work at the moment. Cassandra 73 talk 12:23, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
I will attempt to clean up the article, but that's a separate matter from your edits. Please see WP:BURDEN – this puts the onus on the editor who wishes to add the material to provide verification. This requirement is not waived for future edits to an article just because it already contains unsourced material; there is also specific provision for swift removal of poorly sourced material which might damage the reputation of living persons.
If you still want to pursue this, then in line with the conflict of interest guideline I would strongly recommend you discuss any proposed changes on the talk page of the article rather than editing it directly. Cassandra 73 talk 07:53, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

How about if you and I come to an agreement on the verifiable and relevant facts - and you make the appropriate edits? Spork33 (talk) 12:17, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Please take it to the article's talk page, I would like input from other editors. Cassandra 73 talk 12:36, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
