Advice[edit]

I'm a librarian myself, and I would like to see as many bios of librarians here as we can justify. In order to accomplish this, it is necessary to make sure that all the articles we do have are as strong as possible.

I've worked a great deal here on academic bios in various fields, and perhaps I can give you some general suggestions:

The length of the bio should be proportionate to the importance of the subject. Excessively elaborate bios for relatively minor people tend to result in someone nominating them for deletion. For librarians, they have rather frequently succeeded. There is no consensus that the head of even a major university library is notable. For some individuals, WP:PROF may apply on the basis of their research, but usually it does not. For faculty hat a library school, it has proven difficult to convince people that they are authorities in their field, because the citation figures are usually rather low as judged by other subjects, due to the limited number of journals in the literature of librarianship
For facts of someone's life, the information in their CV or an interview is usable. For proof of their importance under the WP:GNG it is not; neither is material in local papers, particularly student newspapers.
. The details of someone's early upbringing is often considered excessive content. So are anecdotes, They belong in press releases, unless they have been the subject of significant comment for famous people.
The normal order of an academic bio, is basic bio information, education, with degrees and dates, positions, with dates, notable professional work, major outside contributions , major awards, published works, normally limited to books or to 1 or 2 especially influential articles. We normally include only major positions and prizes. Internal prizes awarded by a university are not normally major prizes.
WP is written formally. We do not refer to people by their first names alone unless they are entertainers in one of the popular genres--we use the last names alone after the first mention. We avoid titles, and do not use Mr.or Mrs, or Dr or Professor, except at the first mention

Hi, if you look at the references section in Mary Hellen Maher, you'll see four identical references listed. In articles, when you reuse the same reference in multiple places, you should name the reference when you define it, and then call the named reference for the others. Re: Creation of new accounts blocked on campus[edit]

Hi James, I'd need to know the IP address/range you're working with ... but honestly, rescinding the block might not help you all that much. There's a limit of six accounts created per day on a single IP address, and depending on how your network's set up, your students might reach that limit very quickly. To solve this, either I could give you the event coordinator right to allow you to create accounts for your students, or they could try to create them on their mobile phones or at home.
