Italian KC-135s[edit]

Just wanted to let you know that I reverted your reversion, as Italy operates 4 KC-135s, pending the arrival of the new KC-767s. I've also added a citation documenting that. Akradecki 06:37, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please chime in if you have a view[edit]

There's an interesting experience going on over at WikiProject California, and WikiProject Southern California.

Some time ago, WikiProject California members had placed their project tags on all articles about California cities. Those tags have been in place for some time. Recently certain members of WikiProject Southern California, after discussion on that project's talk page (only), decided to remove the WikiProject California tags for (almost all) Southern California cities, and replace the tags with WikiProject Southern California tags - only.

That is, the WikiProject Southern California members didn't simply add the WikiProject Southern California tag to Southern California cities, the WikiProject California tags were completely removed. This was done apparently without consultation with the WikiProject California members.

We are gathering responses to the following questions on those projects' talk pages:

  • Do you have a view whether the WikiProject California tag should be removed from a large number of cities in Southern California?
  • Do you have a view whether city article for Southern California cities should have more than one WikiProject tag?

Please let us know if you have a view! Spamreporter1 15:55, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Aviation proposal[edit]

There is currently a proposal to create an Aviation WikiProject, which would serve to clarify how all the aviation related projects relate, and help with interproject editing. See Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#Proposal_Recap for how the projects hierarchy. Part of the reorganization proposes that WikiProject Defunct Airlines become a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject_Airlines (or perhaps the Aviation Project itself). For an idea of how task forces work, take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Military_history. They have a number of task forces, listed here. As described by them, "task forces are informal groups of editors gathered for collaborative work on a particular topic within the field of military history; all project members are encouraged to participate in any that interest them." The benefit of such a system it that the sub-topics have all the resources of the overall project at their disposal. For instance, the Military history project banner, is placed on every military history page, and the related task forces are listed at the bottom of it. All military history related articles are thereby joined under one roof. I just happened to stumble upon your project, and had until now never realized it existed. By joining forces with another project you will benefit from increased exposure. If you have any ideas or comments, please join the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aircraft. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 02:19, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He left the same message on my talk page, and I don't buy it. The changes made during the vandalism spree were deliberately sneaky, with legit looking edit summaries that had nothing whatsoever to do with the edits made. An attempt to cover tracks. - Pod Bay Door 23:21, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barto[edit]

It would help if you learn something about the world of lute and its music, performers, scholars etc.Galassi 21:02, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your comment is very patronizing in its tone. Superlatives are superlatives, and deserve scrutiny since a Neutral Point of View is a pillar of Wikipedia, you should be able to cite a statement that someone is THE FOREMOST 'insert-whatever-claim-here'. You didn't say "among the foremost", but "THE formost". You don't understand the difference, apparently. If you can't find any citations for such statements (how hard can it be?), how does the average reader who happens to read the article KNOW it's true or not? That's not encyclopedic, and I stand by the edits I made. Just to be clear, you don't own that article. - Itsfullofstars 21:13, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies, but it can be irritating to see ininformed comments by individuals who are not privy to the goings-on in the very small world of lutes, naturally never covered by any media. You simply will not find any citations on the subject of Lutenistic Quality. So you should legitimately accept as axiomatic that there is no one better than Barto in Weiss. He actually is the greatest living lutenist, but we cannot say it in Wiki, and what I wrote is a half-measure.Galassi 21:34, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Understood. Now that I've had time to think things over, I'll remove my citation tag, if it's still there. Cheers, - Itsfullofstars 23:03, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most of RB's CD's are in print. You should get a few, so could "get with it" [;-)Galassi 23:15, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My comment on your report on WP:AIV[edit]

It's good that you found and reverted the edits...but #1 on the instructions for that page says, "Before listing a vandal here make sure that: The vandal is active now, has received a proper set of warnings, and has vandalized after a recent last warning, except in unusual circumstances."

Active now? Nope. No edits in the last hour.
Received a proper set of warnings? Nope. Never received a last warning.
Vandalized after a recent last warning? Nope. Again, never received a last warning.

It seems like that page has been getting many more reports lately for vandals that don't meet what's been asked for in the instructions. When they need to look into each of them, it slows down the ability for admins to block the people who are actually currently vandalizing. --Onorem 18:17, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The vandals know how to the game the broken system, and good faith editors who find the vandalisms are running out of patience with the process that bends over backwards in the vandal's favor. Final warning, you say? So what if I typed two uw-vandalism3's instead of one 3 and then a 4. You may be getting more reports like mine because we want to report what we find, when we find it, regardless of these silly, arbitrary short time limits that only serve to make the vandals harder to stop. Fix the system and stop faulting the vandal fixers for trying to save Wikipedia from a slander lawsuit. I think it's time to go on a Wikibreak. Cheers, - Itsfullofstars 18:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an admin. I want to clear that up after seeing your edit summary when you changed your warnings.
As for the rest...you got your block...so oh well. I don't think it's right, and I don't think multiple warnings should be given all at once. It doesn't make sense for how the system is supposed to function. --Onorem 18:33, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Taking a break[edit]

I had a few months of fun of editing here and trying my best to be a contributor to Wikipedia, but I'm tired of dealing with vandals and policies that coddle them. - Itsfullofstars 18:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Air Lines[edit]

Hi, Itsfullofstars! I'm glad that you found good use for the image of the PAL 404 at Camarillo! I was lucky that evening. As I arrived at the museum hangar I saw the 404 land after its first flight in recent years and I took the photo of it with the ventral stairs in use. I did not visit USA until September 1970, so missed seeing PALs aircraft. Air West's Fairchild F-27's were in evidence at that time.

The article on PAL has certainly benefitted from your work. Have asked another experienced wikipedian to re-assess the article. Will see if I can add anything useful to the page from my reference books. Best wishes RuthAS (talk) 14:28, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have finished adding material now. Three of my reference books quote 6 March 1958 for date of name change to PAL, so have used this in the article. RuthAS (talk) 15:43, 8 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:AIP FR[edit]

Thanks for your kind words regarding my update to {{AIP FR}}. When I first created that template, along with the {{AIP AU}}, {{AIP NL}}, {{FAA-diagram}} and {{FAA-procedures}} templates, the goal was to be able to place a link in an airport article that would work after the URL changed. However, that did rely on someone updating the templates every 28 days (or 4 times a year for Australia). Now that I've got the French AIP link automated, I plan to implement similar code in the other templates. -- Zyxw (talk) 15:23, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bunching and such[edit]

Hi Its..., the template used on the Short Seamew while it seemingly stacked the photos, introduced a new problem in that it created exaggerated white space around the text that looked much worse than the original setup. I tried to adjust it but given that the initial layout was not overtly bizarre, reverted to that. I totally realize that the effort was a WP:AGF submission and treated it accordingly with an edit comment, rather than an outright rollback. As to the browser system, I use a MAC laptop (MacBook) with a Firefox browser. I can check the template on other systems, but if it is incompatible on one computer platform, that would preclude its widespread use. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 10:27, 24 September 2009 (UTC).[reply]

Flying Tiger Line Flight 739[edit]

Hi again. I noticed in your edit summaries of Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 you mentioned that you were planning on expanding that article. Just though I'd let you know that I went ahead and expanded it, but there's still some blatant holes in the "investigation" section (ie: how long did it take for the search to get called off?) Didn't mean to go stepping on your toes. ^_^ Cheers! --Mû??â?û?â?û 00:38, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No toes stepped on, I assure you! I'm not sure when I would have gotten around to using those newspaper articles I had found to expand the article... I definitely hadn't begun to tackle it, so your initiative was very helpful. Thanks to you the article just got bumped up to B-Class. Great work! --Itsfullofstars (talk) 07:05, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just dropping a line to let you know (in case you were interested) that Flying Tiger Line Flight 739 just passed a GA review. I've noticed that I keep running into you on old airliner accident articles. Would you be interested in a collaboration in trying to get Flight 739 to FA status sometime during December? --Mû??â?û?â?û 09:28, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well done on getting the GA. I'm willing to help. I'm going to take a look at aviation-related FA articles to get a feel for what might be involved, because I'm unsure what it will take to get to FA. I'm a bit concerned we've pretty much exhausted the available online sources. There used to be a website dedicated to the flight but it seems to just consist of a single home page now, with dead links to the sub-pages. --Itsfullofstars (talk) 20:19, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pacific Air Lines[edit]

Hi, I just read the article on Pacific Air Lines (Southwest Airways). I have a couple of things to say, but don't have citations so I did not want to edit the article. My father was one of the flight instructors during WWII at the 3 bases in Arizona and then went on to be a pilot with Southwest, then Pacific, then Airwest, then Hughes Airwest before he retired. What I am contributing is my memory of things my Dad & Mom told me.

The Merger - I was told at the time that the merger was between Pacific, Bonanza and Northwest. I was also told that there were 2 airlines at that time with the name of Northwest. The regional airline that was part of the merger was Northwest. The other one was known at that time as Northwest Orient. At some point after the merger Northwest Orient dropped the word Orient from their name and started just using Northwest.
The Move & Name Change - The move from Phoenix to San Francisco appears to have happened sometime in the late 1940s. My parents were already living in Redwood City, CA as of April of 1950. As to the name change from Southwest to Pacific, I don't know the date, but I was told later that it was because the name Pacific represented the area they serviced at that time better then the name Southwest did.
Flight 773 - Up until soon after the investigation into this crash you could buy flight insurance at the airports out of vending machines. I was told that this crash was a major contributing factor in getting those machines banned. After that, while you could still buy flight insurance at the airport, it had to be sold by a human who was supposed to be trained in distinguishing who should be allowed to buy the insurance and who could be dangerous if allowed to buy flight insurance.
Thank you again and I hope I have sent this note correctly and not messed something up.

Control copyright icon Hello Itsfullofstars! Your additions to Stan Freberg have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. I don't think my additions merited this. A few sentences to quote his humor are fair-use, I believe. Having said that, I respect your decision (better safe than sorry). Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations opening soon[edit]

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are opening in a few hours (00:01 UTC on 1 September). A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:51, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 11[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Mira McKinney, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Adventures of Superman. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Correction to previous election announcement[edit]

Just a quick correction to the prior message about the 2022 MILHIST coordinator election! I (Hog Farm) didn't proofread the message well enough and left out a link to the election page itself in this message. The voting will occur here; sorry about the need for a second message and the inadvertent omission from the prior one. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 17:41, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
