Welcome!

Hello, IrishJew, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Shabbat[edit]

Hi, Avraham. If you take a closer look, I did not remove the information you added about Kavod Shabbat - rather, I moved it further up in the bulleted section. As for the meals, I summarized the meals briefly, but I felt that the information about the specific requirement for three meals is better suited for the Seudah Shelishit article that I created. That is where I sent most of your stuff about the meals. I agree that a new article should not be made for shalosh seudot, but I think that it should be discussed in the Seudah Shelishit, since the two go hand in hand. As for the line about meat, feel free to change it to reflect that it's a tradition rather than a mandate.

Seudah Shelishit needs a lot of repair - I just threw it together haphazardly, so feel free. I'm running off to make Shabbos! Best, DLand 19:50, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you're right - it should be moved to Seudah Shlishit. The way we usually determine these things, by the way, is by Google test, where you can check which spelling variation gets the most hits on Google. It's not a perfect gauge, but in many cases (like this one) it's a good way of quantifying popular opinion. --DLand 05:15, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion to Judaism[edit]

There is no problem with the redirect, but you didn't create the redirect the right way. You can't just type the name of the article you want to redirect to. You have to put #Redirect before it and then wikify the name of the article. Academic Challenger 06:05, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, when you post on talk pages you should post a new message on the bottom, not the top. Academic Challenger 06:06, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted articles[edit]

Welcome! If the link in the deletion log is blue that means that either the original user has re-created the article or an administrator has undeleted it. You don't necessarily need to do anything about this, but if you want to, you could look at the article, and if it looks like it qualifies for speedy deletion you can tag it. Check out WP:CSD for more information about this. I've re-deleted both of the articles you mentioned, one because it was a vanity biography of someone who did not claim to do anything important, and the other because it was a copyright violation. Cheers, Makemi 06:16, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect[edit]

That redirect is good now. Yes, there is a lot of strange articles that people create and I enjoy reading them before deleing them. However, I am pretty sure that non-administrators can only read the summaries of deleted articles and cannot access the entire article. I may be wrong because I've been an administrator for over a year and a half so I'm not sure what the rules are, but I think I've hard that for a while everyone could read deleted articles, or at least all registered users could, but then access was limited to admins because of the very inflamatory nature of some off those articles, which includes really brutal attacks and libel against people Academic Challenger 20:57, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chometz[edit]

This was a little confusing for me at first as well. If the desired page name does not exist yet, then any user can move to it (except new accounts - which should only last four days, so it shouldn't be too long for you). However, if the desired name does exist already, then only an admin can do it. So basically, I posted a move request for chometz --> chametz at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Current discussions and we'll see what happens. I've never done this before, so I don't know how long it usually takes. --DLand 20:44, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was taking too long, so I just asked Jayjg to do it - he is a good Wikipedian to have on your side. --DLand 23:47, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Irish Jews[edit]

Hey, I'm a (1/4 or 3/8) Irish Jew also. TheJabberwock 18:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for merging jackpot baby and anchor baby. Fine job if I don't say so myself; really appreciate it. --EMC 23:40, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Your username is also...different. --EMC 00:42, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. Any articles you suggest I start with first then? --EMC 00:48, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I'll work on the ATR merger tommorow. Thanks a lot. --EMC 05:04, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My pleasure. Please feel free to come to me if you need any other help. Jayjg (talk) 15:39, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is Numer One in the Hood, G[edit]

Yeah and I happened to notice the huge gap in my user page that all of those boxes left. I was thinking about dividing them onto either side, but I don't want the text to look smooshed. Also, I hope you don't mind if I stole your "Tools" section on your user page. And yes, of course it (the ATR merger) looks sweet. --EMC 05:00, 9 April 2006 (UTC) (Oh, and I changed the title of my boxes to "Here be some many boxes").[reply]

I took your advice and made my own boxes page. My Music Boxes are still on my main page though. --EMC 02:25, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I try. I prefer to call it (the user page) "foxxy". Actually, I got a lot of the formats on my page from looking at other user pages. Oh, and I didn't know about Beeping Easter eggs either until I watched my local news while channel surfing. Funny where you learn stuff, huh? You have a great passover too. --EMC 17:47, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for redirecting Wesley Smith to Central News. Only problem is that someone has since merged Central News to their owner: Central Independent Television so, Wesley Smith is now a double link. Can you send it directly to Central Independent Television? Thanks! Avraham 15:39, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. --CBDunkerson 17:38, 9 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Avraham[edit]

Sholom Aleichem; I just wanted to make my acquaintance, as I forsee some confusion between us. My UserID is Avraham, but I sign as Avi. Yours is IrishJew, but you sign Avraham :) We should keep that in mind in case anyone gets their wires crossed. Kol Tuv, -- Avi 20:30, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I noticed that. I actually tried to register Avraham but it looks like I got there too late ;-). I think there shouldn't be too much confusion, at least, hasn't been so far. Kol tuv, Avraham 00:38, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I tried to register "Avi" and got there too late as well :) Hopefully, it will be a non-issue. -- Avi 00:50, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DNA evidence[edit]

Does this help? Jayjg (talk) 21:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

It appeared to be vandalism, you know how vandal fighters can be at the spot of vulgerity and profanity sometimes the natural response is to revert. I read your edit summery and I reverted it back--SeadogTalk 02:54, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Idea[edit]

I see what your saying, I would recomend writing in your edit summary in normal writing, "This is actully a translation please understand this", or something among these lines, I usually read every edit summary before reverting but I pulled a quick one due to the fact that in your edit summary you spelled VANDALISM exactly like that. That was the only thing I saw and then I reverted. I would probably never mention the word vandalism in an edit summart it will make others vandal-frenzy. I hoped this helped have a nice day/night wherever you are, you know where I am if you need me--SeadogTalk 03:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your contact info[edit]

Hi Irish Jew: You have not enabled your Wikipedia Email feature in your "tool box" on the left hand side of your user page. Sometimes editors overlook that when it's a useful way of staying in touch with other editors. Best wishes. Shabbat Shalom, IZAK 15:35, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...[edit]

... for the nice singer, and the vandal count fix - how did you know that my count was -1? Some special tool, or did you notice I counted the last vandal only once? --ArmadilloFromHellGateBridge 04:48, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

blocked user[edit]

Hi there, probably not my business but I'm wondering (at the risk of getting myself put on some suspicious persons list...) why was the user User:Techmobowls blocked? I'll condede that he can be difficult/downright stupid when people disagree with him, but is that blockworthy behavior? Maybe it is, I don't know WP policy well enough, but if it's just an issue of vandalism/trolling I don't really think he qualifies as either. Thanks for hte clarification! Avraham 09:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Techmobowls (talk · contribs) was indefinitely blocked for being an impersonator of Tecmobowl (talk · contribs). Maybe the account name got you: Tecmobowl is a good editor, mostly of baseball articles (and "downright stupid" is a fine example of a WP:NPA violation ---- what's up with that?!).... Techmobowls was a jackass long-term vandal and almost certainly the eight zillionth sock of Spotteddogsdotorg (talk · contribs). —Wknight94 (talk) 11:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, if you were referring to Techmobowls as downright stupid, I don't take issue with that. Spotteddogsdotorg is one of the worst sockpuppet rings I've seen including posting enemies' personal information in edit summaries, etc. Been going on for over a year. I'm curious how you even came across that account since it only existed a short time (less than an hour) before Tecmobowl pointed it out - and that was a while ago. —Wknight94 (talk) 00:05, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks & links[edit]

for your kind words. You're right, it wasn't entirely deliberate. Hey, are you aware of WP:JEW, WP:JH, WP:Israel? Also, could you take a look at Talk:Jews for Jesus? Thanks. ←Humus sapiens ну? 21:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pop tarts[edit]

Well it was a little bit funny, better than the usual vandalism. You got faster fingers than me, I though I reverted it, but your name showed up instead. --ArmadilloFromHellGateBridge 09:50, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re:vandalism[edit]

I'm not an admin actually, but I saw it the first time i visited the page. but now I can't seem to see it and I can't see anything in the code of the page that would cause it. I think it may have been an error (though a very suspicious error). I don't know what happened though. I have heard of a page relating to Christianity appearing in the middle of a [[WP:RFA|request for adminship] for no reason and the history didn't indicate anything. Maybe it's another strange fluke like that. James086Talk | Contribs 10:04, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there are several ways of fighting vandals. The one I prefer (though this is just me) is the Lupin Filter. I don't know if a lot of people use that but there are also some programs (which I notice more people using) such as Vandal Proof, Vandal Fighter and Vandal Sniper (if you have Linux). They all work in a pretty similar way, they scan the recent changes and pick out words on a "badlist" in the edits, then they will show you so that you can decide whether it was a proper edit or not. Then you can usually revert it (by just clicking a button that it provides) and warn the user quite easily aswell. The only one I know how to use is the Lupin Filter, I find it simple but still effective. You may also want to get popups which lets you "preview" a page without clicking the link. You need to add it to your monobook.js which confused me so feel free to ask. James086Talk | Contribs 10:16, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a translation for anyone who may be curious or in case my Hebrew is erratic. Re: Hebrew: Thanks. I'll be glad to practice Hebrew. A tag has been placed on Kathleen Hummel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
