100 metres/200 metres

Hi there! Please note that I did not force this issue of maximum speed in either article. The wording has been changed to this on 200 metres:

"Because a smaller proportion of the time is spent in the acceleration phase, some athletes run 200 m at a greater average speed than they do over 100 metres."

and this on the 100 metres:

"even though the world record for the 200 m has had a faster average speed in the men's race since the mid 1990s."

These are the numbers I speak so clearly of, based upon the hard facts of finishing times. The fact that the drive phase need only be completed once is of obvious benefit to the 200 m times, and it evidently out-weighs the exhaustion of the doubled distance.

However, do you have citations for a number of split times? Whilst the above material can crudely rest on the mathematical comparison of 100 to 200 metres times, the proof of which one has a "higher maximum speed" will demand investigation, thus more citations and referencing. I would be really interested in getting your help on this matter, as you are a sports science student. I'm sure you have noticed that the event articles are not of a high quality and do not refer to high quality sources. Hopefully together we can rectify that! Cheers.
