Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Hi, I appreciate your suggestion, I will work on explaining the notability. For the time being how would I move my page to a draft??

Hi Intern at TCOC, I have moved the article to draft space. To move a page, you need to press the "Move" button in the top right hand corner. You can then change the "namespace" the article is kept in to "Draft". There is more information on this here. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.timminschamber.on.ca/chamber_information/chamber_history.aspx, http://www.timminschamber.on.ca/chamber_information/About_Us.aspx, and http://www.timminschamber.on.ca/timmins_events/Featured_Events.aspx. Above, at User talk:Intern at TCOC#Conflict of interest and paid editing, I told you about our Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure policy. That policy specifically requires (as in...NOT optional) that you disclose your "employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which they receive, or expect to receive, compensation". The policy goes on to state "Interns, even if not paid directly, are considered employees for this purpose. If they are directed or expected to edit Wikipedia as part of an internship, they must disclose, just as other paid contributors must."

I am asking you again; are you editing as an intern at the Timmins Chamber of Commerce? If so, you MUST disclose this relationship using the instructions found here.

Please respond. Refusing to respond to this request and continuing to edit as you have (via such things as creating articles our drafts about the TCOC or its affiliates) will very likely result in suspension of your abilities to edit here. I've nominated this page for speedy deletion as a copyright violation of multiple pages from the Timmins Chamber of Commerce website. Even if you work for this organization, we can not accept text from their website without a designated copyright agent of the organization releasing rights to the contents being copied under a license compatible with Wikipedia. But, even if we had such release, it's unlikely we would use the material. While I appreciate your efforts to remove peacock terms from the copy on the draft, the reality is this material is written like promotional material...because that's what it is, being copied from their website.

Wikipedia is written with a neutral tone. This is why it is so difficult for a person who has a conflict of interest, such as yourself, to write about subjects with which you are closely affiliated. We have guidance on this located at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. The short version of that is "Do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests or in the interests of your external relationships." I.e., you should not be editing about the Timmins Chamber of Commerce. Is it possible to write neutrally and dispassionately about this subject? Yes, but it is fraught with difficulties as you have already encountered here.

Believe me, PLENTY of people have walked in your footsteps before, trying to get an entry onto Wikipedia regarding their organization. Time and time again, we see the same arguments; they just want a listing, they are just adding factual information, etc. I've been involved in the blocking of more than 100 accounts that were trying to represent an organization (see this). The arguments are usually the same as the ones you have put forth at Draft_talk:Timmins_Chamber_of_Commerce. More than 160,000 such accounts have been blocked. Contrary to the latest warning above (warning has been retracted), your username is acceptable but....but....your editing pattern is no different than the 160,000 before you.

I strongly, in the most animated terms, discourage you from attempting to recreate this article as an article. The best you can do at this point is to submit a new draft, which isn't a copyright violation, for consideration as an article for creation. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:03, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you all have valid points, it was not my goal to go against the Wikipedia policy, I am just a new user. I will not be contesting the deletion of this page. Should I ever try to create content again I will start from scratch and take your words into consideration ~~Intern at TCOC~~

  • You can just do the four tildas, and the software will automatically insert your username for you :) We don't mean to shoo you away. Please understand; an article on the chamber might very well be acceptable, and you would be very important to its formation. I would like to see more citations than just from the Timmons Times group, but there is possibly enough to go on to create a true article.
