Javascript --> C# for AWB

User:Reedy/AWB/WikiProject_User_scripts_Formatter

I think thats all done now, compiles and runs fine as a C# Custom Module in AWB.

Just a side note, some of the code in that, looks to have been taken from AWB in the first place (ie AWB actually already does this)

One example, i noticed for definate, was the "linksimplifyer" function, so i have removed this.

Reedy 19:44, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, the more i look at it, the more of it that looks to be copied from the AWB general fix code... Reedy 19:46, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
User:Reedy/AWB/LinkFixr - That one was seemingly a long winded way to just do some other replacements. That seems to go askew with AWB's general fixes enabled, just FYI. I'll do the other one as it is a quick one. Reedy 20:07, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
User:Reedy/AWB/general - The last one done. Reedy 20:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the barnstar! =) Reedy 14:52, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, you're welcome, no problem, it wouldn't be a collaboration without collaboration, and you really should cut down on the amounts of awards you give out. :P Cheers, · AndonicO Engage. 02:08, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: MLB list

It's done, and appears to work across all browsers. If it goes wrong again, feel free to let me know, but I am on vacation, so you're probably better off contacting someone with a more reliable schedule. Best of luck with the FLC, looks like it's going well. Hersfold non-admin(t/a/c) 23:54, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

All-star lists

Sorry to be persistent, but I really don't see any reason why those lists need to be separated. Notability is of course and important factor in determining whether an article or list should exist, but not the only one. In this case, I would argue that the issue here isn't notability by redundancy. This list falls completely within the scope of another full-fledged article that covers the lists' scope and more. If this were a Venn Diagram, the lists would be completely within the article's circles. I'm not saying I'm necessarily against the idea of the lists existing, but as they stand they offer nothing new (they in fact off less), and therefore have no reason for existing, much less to be promoted to Featured List class. Updated DYK query On 24 June, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article List of 2007 Major League Baseball all-stars, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

FA-Team Mission 4 success!

Draining and development of the Everglades, which in the end we decided not to rename "Complete land rape of South Florida", has achieved FA status! Congratulations and thanks all around! No problem. I just did a general MoS copyedit, but I'm sure there are still minor prose issues to be fixed. I'll get over to that FLC soon, thanks for the notice! Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 01:49, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Scripts

Ok...

Script 1: Since there are only one of each team, it would be faster to just fill in the names on the page instead of using a script (since that's what I would do on the script page). Unless, of course, there are other page(s) where you would need that, then the script would help.

Script 2: Still working

Script 3:  Done - User:jj137/MFC-NBA.js

Hope this helps.   jj137 (talk) 22:20, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem - the other two shouldn't take too long so I'll get them done ASAP :)   jj137 (talk) 22:33, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Hold on

FSC When Johnny came marching home: since when did candidates stay there for just one week? Bring it back, please. You didn't promote it properly, anyway (red link). Candidates normally stay there for three to four (or more) weeks, since the system is fairly slow and reviewers thin on the ground. Tony (talk) 01:14, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

No way. It says "and are soon to be closed". Just what "soon" means is not for you alone to govern. Soon is not one or two days. Why is there a red link in my watchlist if you closed it properly? The recording is disgustingly bad musically; the technical quality is woeful. Even though consideration is given because it's a historical performance, in my view, it doesn't pass. There was 'ONE' support (not counting the co-nominators, of course). Either revert this promotion and do it properly, or I'll take it straight to the removal list. Tony (talk) 01:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
You misspelt "Wikipedia". It's an illegal promotion, since the rule says there must be FOUR support votes, including that of the nominator. There were THREE votes. The rule says nothing about counting a conominator's vote, either. I ask you again to revert this illegal promotion. Tony (talk) 01:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
No, there were THREE votes, not four. It was illegal. And it spent all of ONE DAY in the "Decision-time" area. Not enough by anyone's standards. An illegally promoted nomination has to be brought back. Please do it now, or I will. Tony (talk) 01:40, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
You're ignoring the illegality: there were THREE votes. If you want to get legalistic about the timeframe, I'll get legalistic about the votes. Please revert it NOW. Tony (talk) 01:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. Now, I hope you'll support my proposal to update the instructions. This is particularly important in view of the fact that there's no Director. Tony (talk) 01:50, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Is FSC lacking reviewers? I'd do it, but I don't really know how to deal with Criterion 2. Matthewedwards (talk contribs  email) 03:12, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, a heads up would have been nice. I went from here to here to here to here. Are you aware Tony altered the nomination itself when he posted his opposition? I'll gladly play fairly by whatever rules exist, but this really takes the wind out of a lady's sails. I created the steeplechase award in part to encourage more featured sounds and I'd started conominating to bring more people into the area. DurovaCharge! 04:49, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

X-Men episodes FLRC

Hi, Oreo. I was just wondering whether you notified the original nominator of the list that it was being put to FLRC, as well as any relevant Wikiprojects and any recent major contributors? FLRCs often don't get a lot of attention so this is one way to ensure that as many (possibly) interested parties are made aware. Matthewedwards (talk contribs  email) 09:23, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Your monobook needs to be updated to avoid an error

Hi,

Your monobook needs to be updated to avoid an error. The convert template code has changed and it will no longer accept 'sq' or 'cu' with metric units. Thus '|sqkm|' will have to be changed to '|km2|'. All existing pages have been updated. Any new use of the template with '|sqkm|' will produce an error on the page. The code for non-metric units is unchanged and can be either '|sqft|' or '|ft2|' format.

For example:

  • {{convert|$2|sqft|sqm}}

should be changed to

  • {{convert|$2|sqft|m2}}

If you want more advice, please ask at Template talk:Convert. Or ask me, I would be glad to help you update your monobook code. Regards Lightmouse (talk) 09:35, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Why did you revert my work? I made the article look much better. ● 8~Hype @ 12:56, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Why should it be a common format? The NBA season-by-season articles (example) also don't have a common format. I also didn't change the colors and used the old ones. ● 8~Hype @ 13:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
So basically, all of my edits have been reverted? Thank you, I put a lot of work in this. ● 8~Hype @ 13:51, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

FA-Team Mission 4 in the real world

The Everglades have been saved! Just kidding! Seriously, though, big changes are afoot, as reported by our own Moni3 at Wikinews. These developments have prompted a dramatic increase in traffic to the articles, so let's do Wikipedia proud and spruce them up pronto! Awadewit (talk) 15:40, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi MFC. There seems to be a concern that this list contravenes WP:NOT. What do you reckon? The Rambling Man (talk) 18:04, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

No, I won't be deleting it but I just wanted to know how you felt about it. In my opinion it's a little almanacky and probably could fall foul of an AFD. It sucks, I know. I'm not requesting you do anything, but if the list is capable of being discussed for deletion, I agree with you that I doubt it'll pass FLC. The Rambling Man (talk) 18:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a heads up

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist    21:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

The Squad

You asked "How much do you like hockey?" Well that depends on the asnwer to this question: "How much do you like the Green Bay Packers?" ;-) Haha, naw Im fine with hockey stuff, granted it is not the sport I know most about (that would be American football), but I can do hockey. The one I was planning on working on was List of Green Bay Packers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. What do you think? « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 22:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Well as you can see, the list is missing a lead :) I plan on working on that tomorrow night but if you want to add anything, feel free. If not, then just copyediting and the such after I finish it up! I am going to add this as a collaboration on the Squads page between the two of us if you dont mind. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 22:56, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Ok I changed the formatting of the table in List of Boston Bruins head coaches which should give us a good start. I also created {{List of NHL head coaches by team}} and implemented it into all of the articles which should help in navigation. Im kinds tired now so it is break time. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 00:20, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Ehh I will work on it later. I just needed a start, I was having writer's block. I'll expand it after I get a lead into the Calgary list. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 01:21, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
I think I have finished List of Green Bay Packers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame‎, if you could give it a good read-through that should help, then I will nominate it for FLC. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 05:08, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Im going to add a little bit more than nominate it, so Ill let you know when that happens. « Gonzo fan2007 (talkcontribs) @ 19:45, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

PR experiment

Dear Milk's Favorite Cookie, I'm writing in hopes of enlisting your aid in a four-month experiment at Peer Review (PR). The success of the experiment will depend on finding at least 10 editors willing to review at least one article a week through the end of October 2008. The experiment will employ a streamlined review process designed to insure that every nominator who seeks a review gets one and that reviewers do not waste time doing long reviews for nominators who do not respond to an initial short review.

The way it works is this: (1) Choose any article at Peer Review that lacks a review. Wikipedia:Peer reviews by date, especially the backlog list, is still a good place to find such articles. (2) Provide a short partial review based on your initial observations and wait to see if the nominator responds. Examples of short reviews can be found at Wikipedia:Peer review/Foreign relations of India/archive1 and Wikipedia:Peer review/Ed Stelmach/archive1. (3) If the nominator does not respond, the review is done. (4) If the nominator responds, continue the review as you see fit.

The experiment will require no noticeable administration. However, if you plan to participate, it would be helpful if you posted a brief note to Wikipedia talk:Peer review to that effect.

At the end of October, we can see how the experiment turned out and whether this process or some modification of it could sustain Peer Review permanently with minimal backlogs. If you can help, that would be great. If not, that's perfectly OK. We are all tremendously busy with a lot of different projects.

I have chosen to write to you in part because you've done peer reviews from the backlog during the past four months. Please forgive the form-letter nature of this note, which is more efficient than a personal note. With respect and thanks for your hard work on many projects, Finetooth (talk) 05:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Adpotion Assignment

Q1. "an unhelpful or unconstructive edit" e.g. page blanking, deliberate misinformation, out-of-context expletives, "x is gay", "y is cool!!1!!" etc.

Q2. Obvious indicators include: (blanked the page) as a summary, (-45,050) for example, as a byte-difference, or an abusive edit summary. Hints to be more vigilant would be IP edits, and red-linked user-names.

Q3. I use Twinkle at present. See below.

Q4. uw-delete

Q5. uw-vandalism

Q6. Click the "watch" tab at the top of the page you wish to add to your watchlist.

Q7. You can be blocked. Tools amplify your contributions to Wikipedia. Amplifying the good you can do, the incompetence you can show, and the bad you can cause.

Yeah, I was reading Wikipedia:Rollback feature only a few hours ago as it happens. I was wondering what benefits it would have over Twinkle. Now that you say that it is quicker (always a good thing) I will definitely request it! Fribbler (talk) 00:07, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Help with DYK

I was directed here by User:RyRy. I have a page (List of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim managers) that I plan to ultimately improve to FL Status. However, I would like to get it as a DYK first. The question RyRy told me to direct to you, was, how should the hook be worded? If you want to see my current hook, see Template: Talk under July 2nd. Thanks for the help.--LAAFan 21:38, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I would be glad to have a collaboration to get it to FL Status.--LAAFan 21:57, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Image

Hello. I was wondering if you could upload (another) image for me. Could you upload an image for Garry Roggenburk? Maybe an image here would do. Thanks, and my new name is User:RyRy btw. -- RyRy (talk) 22:01, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Oh, no worries. I'm horrible with images, more specifically telling ones that are appropriate to upload and not appropriate to upload. I was wondering if it would be necessary to upload an image of him that is allowed to be here on that site I gave you. I guess not. Thanks anyways. It wasn't a big deal to have it anyway.-- RyRy (talk) 22:11, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Assignment

Ehhh..I don't know if I could manage 30 vandalism revisions in one sitting (Huggle users take care of it quick and efficiently!). But I think my current contribs. should show that I'm proficient it it. Regards! Fribbler (talk) 00:04, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

What do you think the article would be assessed as right now? I tagged it at "B", but what do you think?--LAAFan 16:56, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

  • Disregard the last comment, as I thought lists had to be rated like articles. Anyway, great work on the page! I see it becoming dangerously close to nominating it for FL. --LAAFan 19:42, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
I saw that some users prefer one citation in each paragraph. The second paragraph needs a citation. I was thinking one where it says Dick Williams is the only manager to be inducted in the Hall of Fame. I'll be out now, so I won't be able to get to it later. I've replied to your review on Garry Roggenburk. Please review it again. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 20:38, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks MFC. :) I also had Willis Roberts up for nomination. You don't have to review it, I was just letting you know. Best, RyRy (talk) 21:00, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Would you like to work on this list with me to get it to FL? Qst (talk) 21:53, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

New York Rangers

You know if a player is a hall of fame inductee and has coached the franchise for his full career, which marking from the key would I use to do this, as Patrick and Boucher have both achieved that, could you please show me on the article, as I'm an Ice Hockey noob. Thanks. Sunderland06 (talk) 23:34, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

The years are getting really complicated when there is multiple managers, so I may have made mistakes. Sunderland06 (talk) 01:47, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

What do you think

I added my reference, so I'm good regarding List of Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim managers. User:Nishkid64 actually did a copyedit of it, also. I'm ready for a nomination; how about you?--LAAFan 01:04, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

Featured article

Featured Arkansas article of the month:

  • Monte Ne is an area in the Ozark hills of the White River valley east of Rogers on the edge of Beaver Lake in the U.S. State of Arkansas. From 1901 until the mid-1930s the area was a health resort and ambitious planned community. It was owned and operated by William Hope Harvey, a financial theorist and one time U.S. Presidential nominee. Two of its hotels, "Missouri Row" and "Oklahoma Row", were the largest log buildings in the world. Oklahoma Row's "tower section" is one of the earliest examples of a multi-story cement structure. The tower is the only structure of Monte Ne still standing. Monte Ne introduced the first indoor swimming pool in Arkansas, and was also the site of the only presidential convention ever held in Arkansas. (more...)

Tagging of uncategorised pages

Hi. Re 1921 in baseball and 1926 in baseball, it would seem that your bot tagged these pages as uncategorised even though they are. I admit that they're not directly categorised - i.e. in the article text itself, presumably it's something to do with the template, but it's something you may want to investigate. Cheers. :-) CultureDrone (talk) 14:47, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

By the way, snazzy page layout! :-) CultureDrone (talk) 14:52, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:56, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

IRC?

Hey, I was just wondering if, when you get time (and of course if you want), if you'd like to come on IRC. The primary channel is #Wikipedia-en, so you can find me in there. Best, Qst (talk) 16:05, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Hmm.

I tried to add you on Qui but it just doesn't work. Do you think it is the apostrophe in your username?   jj137 (talk) 20:07, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey. I was wondering if you could fill in the third coach for this list. It is the one where two coaches teamed-up to coach the team, as I'm not too sure about how to get the info for this, but know how to for the others. Best, Qst (talk) 16:26, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Could you reply to The Rambling Man's comments on the featured list page? I answered almost everything else from other users, with the exception of one thing. I need to work on my other current candidate. Thanks.--LAAFan 21:14, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Permissions Assignment

1. What is a permission?

Permissions are additional abilities granted to users (e.g. rollback, admin, bureaucrat)

2. What pages are un-registered users able to edit?

Most pages, other than semi and fully protected pages. They also canot move pages or create pages outside of their own userspace.

3. What is an auto confirmed account?

An account which has existed for 4 days and has made ten or more edits.

4. What permissions do registered accounts have?

Autoconfirmed users can move pages, edit semi-protected pages and upload media.

5. Who can grant rollback?

Any administrator.

6. What privileges do acccountcreators have and why?

They can create more than 6 new accounts in a 24 hour period. Thus enabling them to create accounts for users who, for example, cannot read captchas.

7. Who can grant accountcreator and how do you request it?

Any sysop can grant it...just ask them. You should have already created accounts.

8. What does rollback enable you to do?

Undo multiple sequential edits by a user to a page.

9. What should you not use rollback for?

Anything other than blatant vandalism, as it leaves an automatic edit summary.

10. What are administrators able to do?

Block and unblock users, delete and restore pages, tinker with the way pages are presented, and edit fully-protected pages. They can also grant rollback and accountcreator.

11. How do you request adminship?

Through the RfA process.

12. What are bureaucrats main duties?

Elevating users to admin and bureaucrat. Also changing bot access levels.

13. What technical abilities do stewards have?

The ability to change user rights on any project.

14. What does checkuser enable a user to check?

The user can check the IP address that an account uses at a specific time. Thus identifying sockpuppets.

15. What is oversight?

The ability to remove revisions from public view, usually for legal reasons.

16. What type of a user must you be to be granted oversight?

Generally, you should be a current or former member of ARBCOM.

That was a long one. Fribbler (talk) 16:24, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
