Image[edit]

Thanks, I keep the nice image even if I don´ t use this kind of big template. Moreover, please upload your copyleft pics on http://commons.wikimedia.org , then I and other are able to use your pics in others wiki (like the french or the spanish one). Thans you ^0^y Yug (talk) 19:30, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I didn't upload it... Ian13ID:540053 19:31, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Award??!!![edit]

Thank you so much! What a great way to start off the new year : ) And here I was feeling so guilty for perhaps being too vehement in my critique of the article I chose to improve - thank you for seeing through all that to my real intent - Wiki quality. Once this is out of the way I will be able to spend more of my "wiki time" on other contributions - Petite Ceinture and Paris Portal are just a start : )

Again thanks, and Happy New Year! ThePromenader 04:06, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!![edit]

Thanks for your help, I will gladly come to you if I have any problems. If you don't mind me asking, what's it like to live in the UK?? I've wanted to go all my life...anyway, thanks again!!--SunnySideUp 22:55, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Its generally nice. The graffiti, chewing gum... - Whoops! Not ment to mention that ;). But seriously, it is generally a good place, I have only passed by London, but that seems very nice. Ian13ID:540053 21:58, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes and categories again[edit]

Hi! Again thanks for improving the template. Currently there is a proposed policy on userboxes you might want to comment on. Larix 09:15, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Oh dear, more arguments - thanks for the link. Ian13ID:540053 15:34, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Moved up to here since untitled below, and this would suit it:

I didn't like any of the proposed policies so I made a proper liberal one. I'm presuming (/hoping) you'll support it... I think it is based on WP:UB views. Deano (Talk) 16:43, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Finally I got some shiny barnstar :)  Grue  14:57, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah no problem. You deserve it! Ian13ID:540053 15:33, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Userboxes[edit]

The reality of the situation is that I'm not leaving because of the recent rfc. It served as a catalyst for other factors. I'm currently in two other projects were I am needed more, New Hampshire and Webcomics. Also I have some personal projects I'd like to work on. I've also discovered that I was more or less just using userboxes for the sake of using them. I ended up stripping down the userboxes on my webpage and substing the heck out of them. In all probability, I will not be returning to the project any time soon. Jokermage "Timor Mentum Occidit" 15:08, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah okay thanks. Ian13ID:540053 15:32, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kelly Martin[edit]

I'm sorry, but I don't think she'll listen at this point. My advice would be to go ahead with the rfar and tie it into Snowspinner's rfc, which is related. If they pull any favortism, I say we start a revolution and just start doing things at will as a gang ala WP:UBX. Yeah, it's gotten that bad around here lately. karmafist 19:04, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I plan to see if she undertakes the threats she stated (that she will continue), and then I hope I will have a valid case, since RfC will have been deamed to have failed. Its disgraceful really, I thought the Wiki community was better than this. 19:07, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

hi..dont understand why you change the image of the aberdeen template?..I dont think the logo of the aberdeen uni is cpoyrighted...besides the logos for the various colleges of oxford still bear their respective coat of arms...(Saurabhb 19:43, 2 January 2006 (UTC)) 19:42, 2 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

It is considered a fair-use image, which means it is to be used for the purpose of articles, and not on templates or userpages. Userboxes with fair-use images may soon be deleted so we are working on ensuring none have them. Oxford does, would yo like to help out and remove them :) Ian13ID:540053 19:49, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanx..how do you know if an image is a 'fair-use' image...dont mean to be a prick, just curious. (Saurabhb 19:53, 2 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

No problem. If you click on the image, you will see the image's page. If you scroll down, a fair-use image will have a red copyright image, and the box surrounding the copyright image will state it is fair use (somewhere, it varies). Hope that helps! Ian13ID:540053 19:55, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx for your help..I'll ensure that I won't misuse 'fair-use' images in the future while editing/ creating articles :)..(Saurabhb 20:05, 2 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

No problem. THey are designed to be used purely for articles, just because that is the only place it is deamed the copyright image is acceptable for use. Have fun! Ian13ID:540053 20:07, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers. new to wikipedia and unfamiliar with HTML..but ill also help modify templates that use 'fair use' images as and when I come across them..(Saurabhb 20:14, 2 January 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Thank You, Dear Leader![edit]

As a thankful member of the Userbox Wikiproject, I award you this Defender of the Wiki Barnstar for fighting censorship and corruption by those in positions of influence on Wikipedia. karmafist 20:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I am glad you approve of my actions. Some of those in influence said I was escalating situations by voicing my views so POV in RfC (I thought that was one of the few places POV was allowed, and encouraged!) :) Ian13ID:540053 20:23, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

userbox proposed policy[edit]

Hi - there have been some slight alterations to my proposal (#4) subsequent to your support. I would be greatful if you could re-read the proposition and re-sign your name below the line if you still agree. Thanks, Deano (Talk) 20:18, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed, and I changed my vote from Support to Strong support in light of the alterations. I highly commend your well balanced proposal. I still however feel the policy should befor userpage templates and not just userboxes. Ian13ID:540053 20:23, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I must say I agree with you... but given that the page proposes a policy for userboxes, is there any way this can be established? I'll put a mention in though. Deano (Talk) 20:44, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added to to the talk page, conversation 7 I think. Ian13ID:540053 20:46, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes Wikiproject[edit]

Hello, Ian. I'm interested in joining the Userboxes Wikiproject. Right now I'm spending most of my time at Wikisource working on the Diary of Samuel Pepys, so I don't think I'll be able to do a ton of work on Userboxes, but I think I'll join anyway. If you respond, please do so at my talk page. Thanks:) --Think Fast 21:35, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, and welcome, activeness is not an issue, only being prepared to support and helpout wenever you can is :). I'll reply on your talk page too! Ian13ID:540053 21:44, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Was that whole page deleted? :O --King of All the Franks 11:12, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Wikipedia:Userboxes/Beliefs and Wikipedia:Userboxes/Seasonal also went. - Tony_Sidaway (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) deleted all of the userboxes within them all, and destroyed the pages. Leaving thousands of red links. Rather incivil about it on IRC and did not reply on his talk. Ian13ID:540053 11:16, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In the spirit of WP:AGF, I can understand his viewpoint, but I don't see why he refuses to have a multilateral discussion. --King of All the Franks 11:43, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and I choose to. It is however worrying when a user deletes huge sections of userboxes, when a RfC was brought to a user who also did, I feel the community has been split apart enough. Ian13ID:540053 18:36, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Request for an advocate[edit]

Hi, I'll be your advocate. But, I should mention that I do have a sorta anti-userbox POV. Some are ok, but alot of them are oxcessive. Kelly is also a good friend of mine. --Phroziac . o º O (♥♥♥♥ chocolate!) 15:03, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. It's not about userboxes really, but just how the situation has been handled. Ian13ID:540053 18:38, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is however probably better if I find another advocate should the need occur. Thanks! Ian13ID:540053 20:33, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

rv error[edit]

(moved Template:User browser:Firefox to Template:User Firefox: LEAVE IT ALONE!)

it is meant to be: User firefox -So we now have quad-redirects :P Ian13ID:540053 21:32, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I moved it to template:User firefox I am terribly sorry for my mistake its just that I am tired of the moveing of this template, the changing image on display and all the copyright paranoia with it. --Cool CatTalk|@ 21:47, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I was only notifying you, since I felt it was a mistake (but one I should mention), I endorce your actions. Thanks! Ian13ID:540053 21:52, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bot[edit]

I have requested permission for User:UBXBot at Wikipedia talk:Bots. I have however, not mentioned the extended interface, and Commander_Keane recommends against it. However, you will have access when I have finalised the interface. I hope that made sense. --Grand Edgemaster Talk 00:13, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I presume access is not applicable for this anyway, you are responsible for your own security. Ian13ID:540053 10:28, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings, Ian13! I wanted to sincerely thank you for voting in my RfA, which passed with a final result of 55/14/3. Your support means a lot to me! If you have any questions or input regarding my activities, be they adminly or just a "normal" user's, or if you just want to chat about anything at all, feel free to drop me a line. Cheers! —Nightstallion (?) 07:47, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck. It was looking close, and I felt you deserved support. Ian13ID:540053 10:27, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Again, thanks. —Nightstallion (?) 11:41, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

staffing[edit]

I am prepared to help maintain the userbox wikiproject page and the objectives and projects anyway I can, also I would like to thank you for your work on userboxes. Brian | (Talk) 11:20, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup template[edit]

I have bounced some ideas off Commander Keane on the IRC and we decided that {{Userbox-cleanup}} and category may be useful. Full stuff on the project talk. --Grand Edgemaster Talk 00:26, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Icons look better than jpeg pictures in user boxes so I created this one in photoshop.--God of War 20:50, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I am just asking since it makes the userbox a rather odd size (I also personally liked the old image). Thanks for reply. Ian13ID:540053 20:53, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Barns[edit]

Heh, I would have, but I kept on forgetting who I voted for! Maybe I could reform it to giving them to people who I think are worthy of adminship or something. Speaking of which, would you like me to nominate you? It's best to wait a bit so you know who doesn't rally their cabal, but otherwise, you're running a vibrant and popular Wikiproject. That in itself is more than i've seen some people use for justification for adminship. karmafist 22:12, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would be honoured to be nominated, but at present I have been here just over two months, so probably best to wait another one. Also, people who oppose my userbox work (and the fact the numbers of userboxes are growing so much) and the hostility I recieve on IRC may mean I get an unknown number of oppose votes, but to know that we will just have to wait and see. Ian13ID:540053 22:16, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I should probably read more, since my last comment is what you were highlighting, you can tell I am getting tired, sorry! Ian13ID:540053 22:18, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quote[edit]

I have added a quote of yours to User:Ian13, I thought I better let you know, and just check you don't mind. I am happy to remove it/remove your signature ect. if you so wish. Thanks! Ian13ID:540053 14:47, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine - I'm flattered that you value my opinion that much! Thanks for letting me know, Werdna648T/C\@ 23:41, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, and thanks. Ian13ID:540053 09:52, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Pgk's RFA

Thanks for your support on my request for adminship.

The final outcome was (80/3/0), so I am now an administrator. I was flattered by the level of support and the comments, so I'm under real pressure not to disappoint, thus if you have any queries, suggestions or problems with any of my actions as an admin then please leave me a note --pgk(talk) 12:18, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alerts page[edit]

Curps has reverted my addition to the reverts page. I would appreciate if you would add these two notices back in there for me as this is a blatant attempt to silence userbox protest and I need some support here. Thanks.--God of War 20:03, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since they are all on userboxes, I will, as a personal judgement (not a command from you :P). Ian13ID:540053 20:06, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It seems Curps has decided to revert himself. WP:AGF. Ian13ID:540053 20:10, 10 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA[edit]

ComputerJoe 21:45, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I accept, and I thank you for putting the trust in me, even if it is too early. Ian13ID:540053 22:22, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Ian. I want you to know I consider you a good editor and my vote was in no way personal. I hope you try again, in time. Jonathunder 18:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have withdrawn my acceptance, due to growing oppose votes due to my lack of experence (and because of userboxes?). I will now aim to continue, and broadern my scope from userboxes. I will accept a nomination, should one be made, in 1-2 months. Ian13ID:540053 18:26, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, that's cool. Most of the oppose reasons were shite. I think it is just the experience. I shall do it again in mid-Februaryish. ComputerJoe 18:28, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would personally prefer late feb. I had oppose votes because I had 'too many userboxes'! Ian13ID:540053 18:30, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to see you withdrew. The opposition based on your userboxes is ridiculous, I'm considering making it a personal policy to vote support to cancel out silly oppose votes like that. Anyway I like the way you hid your userboxes away, I discovered that code a while ago and was wondering about uses for it. Like people said, try again in a month or so. the wub "?!" RFR - a good idea? 19:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I made the effort to remove the 2 userboxes which added me to supports userboxes stuff which people disliked, and also by hiding them I feel is a suitable compromise. I feel opposing based on things like that should be stopped, but it would still continue, probably just with a different excuse. And I will stand again should someone nominate me (very) late feb onwards. But once again, thank you for the trust you placed in me. Ian13ID:540053 19:18, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Ian - at a personal level, I am sorry for you that you had to withdraw yourself from consideration for admin. As I think you understand, I have found no problem at all with your participation at Wikipedia. I simply feel that people need to be here several months prior to becoming admin in order to (a) have a long enough track record to provide good evidence of their work and character (b) have had time enough to learn the ropes (c) make it extremely unlikely that they are not a sockpuppet or newly returned banned user (d) have had the opportunity to contribute to policy discussions and to watch polices and the community evolve a bit. These things don't usually happen in a very short time, even if the user is very active over that short time. I have never set an absolute criteria for myself, but I actually like to see people be here a year or close to a year. That doesn't mean I would rule out supporting someone who was here only a few months, if they have quantity and quality of editing and interactions on their side. I don't understand the objection to your userboxes at all. I do definitely applaud the creative way you have dealt with that particular criticism. Best of luck with your future renomination. Johntex\talk 19:26, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I completely agree with the wub. The "lack-of-experience" votes were legitimate since you have been here less than three months and have only about 2000 edits, but opposing a request for adminship based solely upon the nominee's number of userboxes is ridiculous and trollish. By that reasoning, Merovingian ought to be permanently blocked for having about 200 userboxes. With a couple more months and a couple thousand more edits of experience, you should have no problem with RfA. Then again, you never know when someone might oppose your request because of that penguin on your user page. --TantalumTelluride 20:09, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree fully with your comments. My penguin! Not tux, ANYTHING but Tux! ;) Thank you for your trust in me as well, and I hope you will be correct about the next RfA. Ian13ID:540053 20:44, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I just found out about this log here. Is there any good place to put it to spread the knowledge?--God of War 22:29, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Um, in what regards do mean? Computerjoe recently founded Community Justice partly because of this RfA. Ian13ID:540053 22:31, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My page style[edit]

It's fine :) FireFox 12:12, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes[edit]

Where can i ind userboxes like ape equality and supports independent tibet. Ive seen them on userpages and i want em. WHICH page are they on.

userbox pages are very hard to use Batzarro 15:04, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Um. Well, the former is at Beliefs towares the top (use the code {{user ape-equality}} to add to your userpage), the latter however I am unsure of, I haven't heard of "independent tibet", but it could be at Political Parties, if thats what you mean. And yes. it seems the splitting of user userbox page has gone a little mad. Ian13ID:540053 15:10, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Userboxes other and seasonal boxes have been removed please add them again on userbox page. I am still developing my user page but It is hard because userbox pages are removed from the main userbox page. Batzarro 15:13, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe they hae just been split, however I will take a look. Ian13ID:540053 15:15, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My userboxes[edit]

I added userboxes for Jedi,Sith,Apocalypse and Britney Worship.Check out my user page and see if you could make those userboxes legal? Batzarro 15:20, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Annoying sizes? I'll try and standardise them. Ian13ID:540053 15:22, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hide userboxes[edit]

How do you hide your userboxes? I can't find anything in the Wikicode or the HTML source for the page. Thanks! --M@thwiz2020 18:28, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is a rather unusual and barely used code:
<div class="NavFrame collapsed" style="border-style:none;">
  <div class="NavHead" style="height:35px">
    [Header text]
  </div>
  <div class="NavContent" style="background:none;">
    [Content you want hidden]
  </div>
 </div>
I hope that helps! Ian13ID:540053 19:43, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

image[edit]

Thanks for modifying my userboxes. I was having trouble with sizes. I cannot make them legal userboxes for others to use,due to image copyrights. Batzarro 05:32, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, no problem. You may wish to note that fair-use images shouldn't be used in userpages or in templates, but it seems rarely inforced. Ian13ID:540053 16:26, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
