DYK for Steven Matz

On 2 December 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Steven Matz, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that before they were on the New York Mets together, baseball pitchers Steven Matz (pictured) and Marcus Stroman faced each other in a high school game that a Mets scout called "one of the best duels I've ever seen"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Steven Matz. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Steven Matz), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Sorry about the GA

Just wanted to apologise about the time it's taking for me to review the Commontime article, since my schoolwork and extracurricular activities are filling up a lot of my time. I'll do some more on the GA review tonight, but hopefully I can progress substantially further by Wednesday. mike•owen discuss 16:54, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

  • No need to apologize MikeOwen! That stuff is more important anyway! :D I appreciate you doing the review; take your time! — Hunter Kahn 20:53, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Re: Grand Illusion RM

Well hello Hunter. I won't deny that I was unhappy with the consensus of the previous RM and this is indeed an attempt to start a fresh discussion. But I have my reasons. I would request you to have another look at the previous RM, a lot of opposing statements were made solely on the basis of the fact that the new page would need to be disambiguated. (And some others due to the consensus of the other RM in 2012, despite it being 7 years old.) Whereas according to Wikipedia policy, the original Grand Illusion disambiguation page has absolutely no reason to be named "Grand Illusion" since a primary topic clearly exists, which is, of course, the film. That is why this time I nominated the original disambiguation page alongside the film page. Would appreciate if you comment on that issue too. This is very clearly not the same discussion since this time it involves two pages and not just one. I have so far followed official procedures everywhere as was required. All I am trying to do is start a genuine conversation, which surprisingly very few editors have been interested in. Regards. Cinema Clown (talk) 15:44, 4 December 2019 (UTC)

Please be more civil

Your comments in the Mandalorian talk page have been a little too impolite. Being uncivil makes collaborative editing more difficult than it needs to be. I am posting the request both here and on your user talk page, should it grow to become a larger problem. Please address it. You are not smarter than anyone else here, so please stop thinking your sniping is a bit o' clever. Be nice, please. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:05, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

  • Jack Sebastian I don't usually have any issues being civil, but I do confess that I sometimes have trouble restraining myself from responding in kind to what I perceive as incivility from other, and in this case I was responding to what I believe was an uncivil tone from you toward other editors in the conversation (and that link wasn't the only example I saw). Perhaps we could both stand a bit more civil? But in any event, I'm sure you're a good dude and we both ultimately just want what's best for this silly little project we call Wikipedia, so I'm sure we can get along in the future. :) — Hunter Kahn 20:29, 21 January 2020 (UTC)

Warm regards

Hi Hunter Khan: I see that you're getting a little upset in the Deathbolt deletion discussion, based on comments there and on the Betty Clawman page. I totally agree that it's really frustrating when you go and find sources to improve the article, and have people tell you that the references are junk and invalid. It's especially maddening when they hint at bias/OR accusations. But as you said, you're not trying to convince any specific individual to change their mind; you're just presenting the sources that you know about, and letting other uninvolved editors weigh in, based on their own interpretation of what you've presented. Don't let 'em get you riled up; bad things happen when editors start accusing each other of personal attacks. :) It's fine to take a step away from that discussion. You're a great contributor, and I value your additions to the encyclopedia. -- Toughpigs (talk) 22:18, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Thanks Toughpigs. Yes, I think you are probably correct and will try to rein myself in a little bit. The accusations of WP:OR were particularly grating, as well as incredibly off-base. I appreciate your advice and kind words. — Hunter Kahn 22:29, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Hello HK. Thanks for this post. Your suggestion is a good one but I think it belongs in the Shorten section - or at least the second part of it does. No need to change anything if you disagree. MarnetteD|Talk 22:03, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Hey MarnetteD. Yeah, I really didn't know where to put it. LOL But I don't necessarily think "Shorten" is correct either because depending on how it is reworded, technically it could end up longer. A bit of a heads up

I know that you think you are correct in saying screw it and doing what you want in the Mandalorian, but I would ask that you use the talk page to actually build a consensus within policy. An RfC does precisely that and brings new eyes to the article to reinforce your view. If you truly feel that you have the right of it, an RfC will only prove that. Shoe-horning in a source into an edit summary is going to get reverted and the page locked, as this is exactly the sort of actions that saw the page locked last time.
Work collaboratively with others, including me. I am not unreasonable, just steadfast. Convince me that naming the weapon is intrinsic to an understanding of the episode or the first season, and you will see that I can concede cogent arguments. That's the only way this will work. I decided to come to your page to ask you to not act in a way that is dismissive of collaborative editing. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 05:29, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Actually Jack Sebastian, you are the one who acted contrary to consensus as I stated here. But I'd prefer to keep this discussion on the talk page and not split it into here on my talk page as well, if it's all the same to you. — Hunter Kahn 06:28, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Seriously?

The argument is that this article is cited by [emphasis added] reliable sources This kind of clumsy talk-page writing makes me kinda suspect you were the one responsible for the worst of the content in the article. As anyone could see, the vast majority of additions are not exclusively in-universe plot content. On the contrary, that's what the majority of the previous version of the article was; much of it has been scaled back, and sources have been added to most of what remains. Rather than plot, the majority of the new additions are rather detailed sections about such aspects of the character as its conception, portrayal, and reception, all of which are cited by reliable sources. I was very clear that I didn't think the "additions" were in-universe plot content but that in-universe plot content was the only reliably-sourced, non-COATRACK content.

If you are going to respond to me right before an AFD closes, I would ask that you read my comments more carefully in the future. Otherwise, it would be most appreciated if you could just not respond, as it's incredibly annoying having it permanently on record that I wrote something that I didn't write without being able to rebut it. I might as well ping Pax:Vobiscum, whose close was theoretically valid (although I don't agree with it, and closing an AFD where the !vote-count was split 6 keep vs. 6 don't keep as simply The result was keep., without even an explanation of why some of the !votes were weighed less than others, is almost never a good idea) but the timing was problematic for this reason.

Hijiri 88 (やや) 06:48, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Apologies if I mischaracterized your remarks, Hijiri88. If Pax:Vobiscum is comfortable with it, I'd have no problem with my response to you being removed from the AFD archive page, so that it would not be "permanently on record", as you say. I have no idea if that kind of thing is allowed or not, so I will defer to him as the AFD closer. — Hunter Kahn 07:05, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
I do not feel comfortable editing a closed AfD discussion, but I encourage you (Hijiri 88) to comment on the talk page so that your response will be preserved there. I agree that it probably would have been better for me to have been explicit with my reasoning for the close. The reason I went with keep (and not no consensus) in the end was that all the discussion participants who came in after the majority of the editing had been done !voted keep. Star Wars Articles

Hello There!

Apologies for the pun, I just wanted to congratulate on your relentless work on articles for The Mandalorian characters! It's incredible how fast you seem to punch these out! I don't want to put anything on your plate, but I was thinking about making an article for Ki-Adi-Mundi or Bossk, but since you're able to knock out these high quality articles so fast, maybe I could pass the idea on to you? I definitely wouldn't be able to do it at anywhere near the quality, standard or timeframe. I've got a lot I'm working on with University at the moment, so if I were to hand that job over to anyone, it would have to be you. The quality and standard of the Mandalorian articles is simply phenomenal. Great work! - SeanTheYeti452

  • Thanks for reaching out, Sean! It's actually funny you bring up those two in particular because I've given thought to starting articles about them both in the past. (I even tinkered with the Ki-Adi-Mundi article on Wookiepedia a few years ago. lol) I still have a few wiki-projects I want to focus on at the moment, but in the future I'd definitely consider doing those, or collaborating with you on them if you like. If I get a chance to work on them sooner than later I'll reach out so you can see what you think. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 02:58, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Incineroar

Heya Zxcvbnm, Sergecross73 and Namcokid47. Tagging all three of you in my talk page rather than seek you all out individually on yours. Wanted to reach out to say I regret the direction the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Incineroar discussion ended up taking. I did and still do have some frustration with how that AFD has gone, but the tone I ended up taking over the course of that conversation wasn't as civil as I usually try to be, and that's largely because of real-life factors rather than anything Wikipedia-related; both my 16-month-old son and I just had the flu and it's been a really rough past couple of days as we've recovered from it, and it has kind of worn me down a bit. I still think it's best I step away from the AFD conversation, but I did want to reach out and apologize for the tone. No need to reply, just wanted to say it. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 14:35, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Thuy Trang family photo.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Thuy Trang family photo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. ƏXPLICIT 12:17, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Understand revision

I do not understand the comment "Reverted good faith unsourced additions to an FA; not a reliable source" on the page Phantasmagoria (video game) What does that mean? The video is on YouTube and directly illustrates the game. LarryGrim (talk) 17:47, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

    • Hey LarryGrim. Per Wikipedia's notability guidelines, information in an article has to be cited by reliable secondary sources. User-created YouTube links are generally not considered reliable secondary source, and since this article is a featured article (FA), the threshold for additions of content like this are even higher than they normally would be. — Hunter Kahn 18:06, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
    • Is it possible to add an External Link to the video? The YouTube video, while user-created, really seems to add to the understanding of the actual game. LarryGrim (talk) 18:40, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
      • LarryGrim I have sort of mixed feelings about whether it should go there, but that's certainly a more appropriate place for it than in the body of the message like before. So if you want to add it to External links, so ahead and I won't remove it. — Hunter Kahn 18:59, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
        • Hunter Kahn Ok. first time for everything, eh? LarryGrim (talk) 19:02, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
        • Hunter Kahn Hopefully, did not screw it up. Please consider either fixing it if wrong or deleting it. I am too new at this to be comfortable with my editing. Thank you LarryGrim (talk) 19:21, 13 March 2020 (UTC)
          • I think you worded it fine. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 19:26, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

Evan Evagora

I have written an article on Evan Evagora, but am unable to move it to main space becuase of the redirect to Star Trek: Picard. I have made a request that the move be made at: Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. Tango Mike Bravo (talk) 09:56, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

  • Tango Mike Bravo Ok. I assume an admin has to do it, otherwise I'd try to muyself, but I assume you'll get the help you need from the request. Or I suppose you could edit the redirect and copy-and-paste the article into it. That's what I usually do when I work on an article in my sandbox first... — Hunter Kahn 16:38, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
