Procedures[edit]

I have removed the old warnings from this talk page as they are no longer serving any useful purpose. I saw your comment at Talk:Transit of Venus. Thanks for that great link showing your method of viewing an image of the Sun. That's an excellent idea which I will try in June. However, Wikipedia is an "encyclopedia, not a how-to guide" (WP:NOTHOWTO). Without rigorous enforcement of that, articles would be overrun with enthusiasts adding various recipes and observations, with no objective way to identify which are useful. I think the article could only have a very brief summary like "an image of the transit can be viewed in a darkened room using a reflection of the sun from a small mirror mounted outside a window" (with a reference pointing to the above link). It's probably better if you just comment on the wording rather than add material to the article because someone will complain about a conflict of interest. If you ever want advice on procedures, you can ask at WP:HELPDESK or please feel free to ask my opinion (add a new section at my talk page). If wanted, you might just ask here and I will probably notice.

When you make a comment, you should start a new line with a colon (:), then type your comment, then a space followed by four tildes. When you preview the text, the four tildes will appear as a timestamped signature at the end of the comment (on the same line as the comment). Use one colon at the start for one level of indent, or two colons for two levels, etc. That is, replies to a previous comment are indented by an extra level. Don't worry about all that—it's content that counts and formatting is trivial—however, there is more at WP:TP. Johnuniq (talk) 10:39, 25 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
