Notice about new site layout[edit]

I added the manual to the main page, added a navigation bar to the top of pages, and moved some content to separate pages to keep the main page from getting too large and for readability purposes.

Henna, please look at my changes and if you would rather that it be done a different way, or have any suggestions regarding it, I won't be offended and will set these pages up in a different way.

Problem running the JAR[edit]

Hi Henna,

I just downloaded vf30.ar and tried to run it but I've got this error message :

VF30 works with computers I use but I have JRE version 1.5.0_06-b05 installed. Try updating and see if that helps.

The only issue that I am having is that the color of Highlight edits by blacklisted users is also setting the text of all entries to that same color. So, blacklisted user entries can't be read (same foreground and background colors) and the other entries are hard to read unless I set blacklisted users to have a black color.

Import Watchlist[edit]

Is there a trick to importing a watchlist? I copied my watchlist into a text file, then I tried to import it. Nothing appears to happen. Does any know what is required to import? Ponder, I haven't been messing with the watchlist function. you could make a seperate program to read the vfdata.dat file and insert the watchlist but it would be annoying to do :). on the top of my head I don't know another option, unless looking thru WP:CDVF. I thought that maybe my watchlist is too big, but I can't even import a single-item list. I see at User:CryptoDerk/CDVF it says (about a similar feature):

When importing a list of admins to the whitelist, the list may look blank. The status will still indicate that the import was successful.

But the list does not act as if it were there either. Someone posted the same question at User talk:CryptoDerk/CDVF#Import watchlist in October, but never got a response there. -Will Beback 23:58, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Save the watchlist as an html file. Do not copy it, just FILE -> SAVE PAGE AS (or similar depending the browser). I just tried it and it works with the current version as well as older ones.

Let me know if that helps or not, Vandal Fighter is running a regular expression against html code to extract the links and expects an exact copy of the page, not a "copied into text" one.

Another VF question[edit]

Hello. I've tried various ways to whitelist the Special:Log/newusers so that it doesn't appear, but none worked. I'd like the other logs to still appear, though. Any hints? BTW, I watch #en.wiktionary. Thanks. Vildricianus 08:03, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with latest version[edit]

The settings to only show IP edits, show newpages and the setting to show only black/watchlisted entries appears to be broken in the latest version of VF (3.4) Pegasus1138^{Talk | Contribs | Email} ---- 21:39, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I downloaded 3.5bl, but when I load it the title bar says "3.5bk", so I guess that's what I'm trying. It still has trouble reconnecting after disconnect, though it works occasionally. Irritating bug in 3.4.1[edit]

I'm having trouble with the newest version. My default project is no:, and it's the only project I am interested in having the edits from. But the highrisk edits from en: somehow manages to get on the list. I've tried deleting the vfdata.dat file, but that doesn't help at all. try 3.4.5 or open vfdata.xml in any text editor (notepad on windows), find the line wich says '<entry key="vandalism_en_box">true</entry>' and change it to '<entry key="vandalism_en_box">false</entry>' Henna 19:52, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with 3.3 and 3.5 version[edit]

Hi! I'm an user from es: Wikipedia. I'd like to tell you a problem that I'm having with the vandl fighter.

Well, let's begin, I downloaded and executed the 3.5 Vandal Fighter seeing the es: RC . The next day, I put it again, but it worked on the en: wikipedia. I decided to change the configuration and it didn't work, though. I run more times the VF with configuration on es:, but it always doesn't work... it only works on en:

It happened to another Wikipedian friend... Do you know what it could be or shall I use the 2.2 version? =P

I downloaded the 3.3 version, but it work in the same way...

I successfully run vf 2.2 for quite long time. I am trying to run 3.5-48 but I always get this after a launch:

as a normal user:

VF 3.3[edit]

I used VF 2.2 previously, after a few months away from anti-vandalism I tried to use it toady and it didn't work. Wikimedia resource[edit]

Hey, I think VF uses the IRC feed to poll its data. I recently came across http://en.wikipedia.org/w/query.php and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php . I'm not sure how they might be helpful yet, but the wheels are spinning. Mac OS X[edit]

I'm trying to run VF 3.3 on my Mac PowerBook G4. I'm running OS X 10.3.9. I'm able to load the application. Import the list of admins from the site as well as import my watchlist. I try and connect and I don't receive any feed. I was able to view the live feed in XChat so I don't think it has to do with my Java runtime environment. VF 3.3 works perfectly on my PC though. you're probably not connecting to the ircserver for the feed itself, could you check wether you're connected to the ircserver? if you start vf from a terminal it shows lots of debugging information, amongst wich is the nick used to join the channel: 'vf' followed by random numbers. Netrange, regex[edit]

Hello, is there a way to use VF to monitor edits made by a netrange? For example, using regex to filter edits made by 205.202.0.0 - 205.202.255.255 could be useful for tracking network abuse for educational institutions. Programme[edit]

How do I scan for user regexps?[edit]

I've just installed Vandal Fighter 3.5 and am really impressed with it, but I can't seem to figure out scanning for users using regexps. I've got "Apply regexp blacklist to user names" turned on and have added a regexp of "Vashti" to scan for my own edits to test it. That works fine, but if I change it to "Vash.*" or "Vash.+", those don't highlight anything. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks... Vashti 12:52, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Slight updates[edit]

I've updated the link to the newest JRE, Diff as well as reworded the sentence about tabbed browsing, since these are integral features off FF and IE7 which don't require extensions. Excluding non-mainspace edits?[edit]

Help?[edit]

Can anyone offer me some guidance on getting Vandal Fighter to work. I've installed the latest and greatest versions of JRE and of VF (I think ... I've got vf35b_17.jar, but I've also tried vf35b_3.jar). When I open the .jar file, it opens Vandal Fighter and the status bar at the bottom says "Ready to connect ....". I click Connect. The status bar says "joined channel". I assume that it's at this point that the window should start populating with possible cases of vandalism, but nothing comes up; even after letting it run for 20 or 30 minutes. Any suggestions? Howdy - not sure exactly what the problem is... I started with vf35b_17 and had no problems, clicking "Connect" floods the table with new edits in seconds. Check the settings on the "Connections" tab and make sure they look ok.

I would also try out vf-beren.jar as it's actually a newer version(3.5b_26) with some nice improvements and so far I've had no problems. Thanks for the response, Zar. I think the problem may be that I was trying to run the software on my office computer and it may be that our firewall blocks IRC access. I tried it on my clunky home computer last night and while it was slow as molasses, it seemed to work. Another possible explanation is that my office computer is a Windows 2000 Professional system. No probs. Odd that it goes so slow, not sure what that problem would be - although I can't see a reason it would work different on Windows 2000, I've never tried it on anything but Windows XP. Page updates (downloads & support)[edit]

Howdy,

I added a downloads section to the navigation template to make it easier for people to locate the current stable and dev versions. Hope it looks ok.

BTW: What bugs are outstanding on version "3.5b 26 (beren)" stopping it being a stable version? I've found I prefer using this version and haven't had any problems yet. I've only seen one bug posted to the bugs page related to it too.

Is the "graying bug" still in that version? I noticed that's why the 3.5 section has been tagged with a message saying "going back to 3.3" since 12 April 2006 (diff).

Greylist[edit]

I was able to find the answer in the changelog on the download page. Apparently the Graylist removes that user's edits from the RC table without giving them white list propteries (automatic blacklist of users that they revert). Nn123645 01:35, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am de:User:TheWolf on German Wikipedia and use VF 3.5b 26 for some months. I would like to exclude all namespaces except main. But with the regexp list it doesn't really work. Do I have to use the German or the English names of the namespaces (Benutzer or User and so on)? Could maybe somemone make a list of expressions I have to import into the whitelist? I just downloaded VF (beren?) and would like some help in making it work for me. I am new to both VF and Java in general. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions, or general help they can give me so that I can make better use of VF? First of all, please make sure that you installed Java properly. If you click on the link I gave up here, you should get a download option. Please download the file to an empty folder. If you did this successfully, please go to that folder. There should be one single file in it. A .jar-file (in windows it shows me an ugly cup of coffee/tea as icon). This is a java-file I think. It only works if you have installed Java correctly. Now double click this file. It might take a while before the program actually opens. Please be patient. You can check your task manager to see whether your computer opened the program. Checked system spec's can confirm that Java Runtime wasn't apparently installed, followed the link provided on the mainpage, and downloaded Java, installed it, restarted my pc and it's detected Java and the software. Randomly picking up nl.wikipedia channel[edit]

Whilst logged in to the #en.wikipedia channel, I also get some random nl.wikipedia channel changes through as well. This doesn't happen all the time, but does occasionally (like today!) These people are not on my watch/black lists so are appearing as normal colours.

IRC address changed - new build[edit]

IRC address changed from "browne.wikimedia.org" to "irc.wikimedia.org". So VF could not connect to server. I found that Huggle also encountered same sort of problem (reports). Can't set up vandal fighter[edit]
