Animorphs species[edit]

First post on your "new" talk page? Cool! Anyhow, I think it would be a good idea to merge minor Animorphs species (like Antarean Bogg, or anything that could never grow beyond about the size of the Arn article) into List of species (Animorphs). How does that sound?--Lkjhgfdsa 20:20, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Done. I'm a bit dubious if there are such as the "Galiash"-ring any bells?--Lkjhgfdsa 15:31, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fairusein[edit]

Fairusein isn't any source information; it's just a fair use defense. If you did take those screenshots yourself, that's the source, so go ahead and put it on there and the images won't be deleted. Hbdragon88 22:58, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So I just need to add "this is a screenshot of a game that I own which I took using Visual Boy Advance" and sign it? Is that all I need? And in that case should Image:NES_Mega_Man.png also be deleted since it doesn't include source information? (I didn't upload the Mega Man screenshot, it was just the first game that came to mind when I went looking for another game's screenshot to look at its licensing to know what to do). Luvcraft 23:03, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Image:Bowser (smb1).png also has no copyright information. Should it also be deleted, or am I not noticing something? Luvcraft 23:04, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Image:Pac-man.png is the same way. Can you please point me to a video game screenshot that IS properly sourced, so that I can base the formatting of my source information off of it? Thanks! Luvcraft 23:08, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Pokemon userbox[edit]

Hm, I do see your point, but I was viewing Pokemon as a non-contentious topic, similar to if I made a userbox that read "I hate onions and everything that has to do with onions". Plus, looking at the user's contributions, he doesn't seem to do much other than meddle with his userpage, and the userbox does not appear anywhere but on his page. I think it could be debateable, so I'd rather err on the side of not speedy deleting it. What do you think of taking it to WP:TFD? --Aguerriero (talk) 02:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yar, MfD would be the place. I'm not sure how much success you'll have there, since editors tend to be pretty lenient about userspace. A question that might help us decide what to do: How did you find this userbox? --Aguerriero (talk) 03:54, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, probably not much to do about it. If you decide to try it at MfD, let me know the link and I will comment on it. --Aguerriero (talk) 03:58, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fischer images[edit]

Here are some images I found that could be possible replacements:

  • [1]
From Chessbase. Not sure if this is a copyvio since it seems to be a derivative of fair use works.
  • [2]
Still cropped, but less so, and probably a better picture anyway.
  • [3]
Uncropped, but a worse picture and much less iconic-- the Life magazine photo is quite famous.

--Ryan Delaney talk 20:01, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. Okay. I'll replace it. --Ryan Delaney talk 20:07, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spider-Man 3[edit]

For the sake of avoiding an edit war, I wanted to open dialogue. What is the issue with the Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy picture? What more is needed to justify fair use for that particular image? --Erik 18:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with what you said and suggest you talk to Someguy0830 about that. That way, if he's in agreement, you can go ahead and make the change. --Erik 19:05, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SSBM Tournaments Section[edit]

Hey bud, pretty soon I'm gonna take a few big whacks at the bloated and almost masturbatory Smash Bros. tournament section. I get a feeling it'll spawn an edit war, so a little help in the near future would be appreciated. Thanks. Kestrel 05:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Animorphs Morphing[edit]

I was wondering, do you plan to take out all the morphing lists? I see your point about unencyclopedic but could we put them somewhere else?-Giant89 02:46, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's no reason for them to be taken out. They could be tidied up, sure, but they're a vital part of the character bios. --Matt 17:49, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just think it kind of sucks that somebody went through and found all that out to have it deleted. I know it doesn't really fit...-Giant89 02:21, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The morphing lists are important because they're part of a comprehensive biography for each character; and the morphing and morphs acquired are one of the central areas of the series. I get the point you'rte trying to make, but there's no reason to remove them completely. --Matt 07:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The David list actually looks pretty good - I'd suggest bolding the morphs so they stand out more, and also making sure that every acquired morph is listed there, but otherwise I think it's a good idea. It's gonna be a pain doing it for every morphable character though, so if it's going to be done for all of them, I'm more than willing to give you a hand. Another alternative is perhaps listing the morphs in a table, along with the book they were acquired in and any other notable comments (eg. favoured battle morph, lost ability to morph this creature due to sario rip effect, etc.), but this could also be assimilated into the paragraph style like what you've written for David. --Matt 10:49, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not all of the morphs acquired will link back to something, particuarly if that's the second or third morph of that species that they may have acquired. Also, David (and Jake and Ax or Tobias) acquired the human controller in #21, when they were inside the pillar preparing to inform the nation leaders about the Yeerks. --Matt 17:07, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I only really noticed the removal of the image and didn't see a change anywhere else. If you did something significant than I apologize. Game Boy[edit]

Good day to you. Despite your extremely rude comments, the black Play it Loud GameBoy is a digital photograph of a Play it Loud GameBoy I had picked up at a pawnshop. And, contrary to what you have to say, it's perfectly encylopedic- it completes the illustration of the Game Boy line, and it lacks the horrible stains that are present on the carpet of this image [[5]]. So, quite frankly, given your extremely rude comments, I really don't have any more interest in discussing the matter with you further. Good day. So are you going to go with your idea to put all the Mario sports game on one template soon? I just tested to see if it will fit in the Navbar without going into a second line ("Mario Sports") by use of the preview feature & it would work. SNS 23:25, 6 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please Help Me[edit]

Hello, I have chosen you randomly for this as a name from the adminstrator's board. The reason I have done that is because Doc Glasgow is basically stalking me and reverting the changes I make, so I need another user to bring that out and I don't think that he'll be looking here.

I wrote an article (for my school magazine) about what happened to me on wikipedia yesterday, and today I put it on the administrator's noticeboard so that people could quote it, and then after that being deleted almost straight away by doc glasgow did it on jimbo wale's talk page where it was removed almost straight away with and then I was banned again. So far doc glasgow has banned 5 of my ips for being a troll for no reason. Please can you get someone to do something about this? The article I wrote is below if you're interested. Thank you so much for any help you can do as I'm getting very upset about this. 212.158.254.80 17:42, 7 September 2006 (UTC) (My user account was The Wiki Fan)[reply]

I created an account on Wikipedia, which is a free encyclopaedia that claims that anyone can edit it. I’d been looking at it for about a year so I knew quite a bit about it, and thought that for my first article I’d make a page about one of my favourite admins, Alex Schenck. An admin, or administrator, is one of the people in charge of wikipedia. Unfortunately it was deleted, basically because they don’t want pages about everything on wikipedia, which is understandable. Anyway, I noticed that there wasn’t an article about Right Guard or one about Sure, so I made one about Right Guard and when I started to make an article about Sure I got a message saying I was being banned (stopped from being allowed to add stuff to wikipedia) for being a troll. On the internet, a troll is not someone who fights with goats, but someone that basically tries to cause arguments.

On Wikipedia, it is possible to put something on what is called your talk page, where people talk to you and leave you messages, appealing being unblocked, so I did that and tried twice not to be blocked, but it didn’t work. After this I noticed that the admin who blocked me, called Dr Glasgow, was talking about it on another bit of wikipedia called the “administrator’s notice board”. I tried a few times from different IPS, as I kept being banned (an IP is basically a number that means your computer on the internet, the easiest way to change it is to turn your modem on and off again) to talk to the admins to get me unblocked, but it didn’t work.

In conclusion, I would recommend that anyone thinking of helping wikipedia be prepared to be stopped for no reason and be made upset by weirdos. If you are happy to take that risk I’m not going to stop you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.158.254.80 (talkcontribs)

This IP also left you a big [6] comment on your user page asking you to read the above comment. I reverted it. -- Gogo Dodo 18:58, 7 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

images[edit]

i have done some thinking about this. i am still pretty pissed off that people are running around doing this without thinking, adding these tags to images which are properly tagged (like {{PD-USGov-Military}} or {{GFDL}}). especially because the excuse i've been given is "oh he's using a script, he can't possibly look at every image...". this is deeply harmful. it makes me not want to upload images, even though i am being exceptionally careful (notice my edit history, please, take a look at it. see how i have changed licenses on my photos, on others' photos, and clarified the reasoning for it on numerous occasions). while the onus is in fact on me to put a proper license on them, you may not have noticed that many of the images i have uploaded pre-date the '-self' license template. additionally, consider that even if i don't add a gfdl-self template to the image, maybe my tagging it with gfdl indicates that it is gfdl, and i tagged it correctly. afterall, the license doesn't care whether i created the image or a ragtag group of mutant polarbears did. do you see what i'm getting at? you're interfering with the normal operations of the wikipedia -- the people contributing -- and then not apologizing when you disrupt something or somebody.

i have spent at least an hour today on this subject, and yesterday i spent a further thirty or forty minutes discussing this at length with you and that other chap. he had the poor judgement to simply delete my comment. at least you responded. at any rate, my hope is you will consider this in your future crusades against the "improperly tagged" (or even obsoletely tagged) images. you owe it to the community who provides those images to be respectful, cautious, and vigilant. vigilance on its own can be easily mistaken for dickery. dig? ... aa:talk 01:02, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, sorry I was not able to post my reasoning for keeping the Tournament section in its former form, because of family events. I posted in the discussion page now. I have extensive knowledge in both Wikipedia (I have done considerable work on Wikipedia) and the Smash community as I am an avid fan of both (yep im a Wikipedia fan :)). I assure you that all the information in the tournament section is both relevant and true. Cheers! Valoem talk 04:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I read your response and I understand where you are coming from. I think we should leave this section as it is right now. Ill add a clean up tag. We discuss what should stay and what should go.

A few things I would like to added (once again no offense in anyway), I'm sure you are more knowledgeable about many Nintendo related articles than I am, however when it comes to the Smash community I am sure I am much more knowledgeable than you are. The tournament section is there to both enlighten and interest people in the history and formation of the tournament scene. Now this section was initially created to acknowledge the fact that Smash has a high learning curve because its simple appearance has lead to some mockery of the game mainly within the Street Fighter community. No one knows the community better than the community itself which resides completely on Smashboards.

Also Smashboards is noted in almost every smash related page included published article by Nintendo, MLG, and others. Here are a few sources. [7], Both AlphaZealot and Smashboards are mentioned in this one :D, [8]

Brain Age rating[edit]

Hi there! I question the low level of importance you gave to Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!,[9] and would like a reassessment. If a game like Dragon Quest VIII gets a ranking of high because One of the best selling DQs in Japan, did exceptional in Europe and did pretty good in NA. Also, it had advertisements in NA, unlike other DQs.[10], I must point out that Brain Age sold around the same number of copies, has been covered by international media in Europe, North America and Japan, has been in the Japanese top ten for over a year and has, along with Nintendogs, created a new brand of best selling games. Not that I have ever played it, but if the rating is to work, it should be neutral and objective. If you don't want to change the rating, please tell me where I can request a new review. Thanks! -- ReyBrujo 17:22, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Manchester Game Boy[edit]

I'll be honest, I'm not sure about it, except that it's the size of a Play it Loud Game Boy and it plays exactly the same way; the build is the same, it's pretty much a Red Play it Loud with that logo and writing on the front. I bought it off eBay a few years back when I was in a collector's fury, along with a GB Light. I decided to upload this (very poor) digital photo when I recognized that other poster mentioning it. As far as I know, it was just one item from a vast stock of Manchester United Football Club merchandise they sold; items that included everything from T-Shirts and beyond. On another note, if you can get a better picture than mine, feel free to do so. My Manchester Game Boy isn't exactly in the best condition, as you can see; the little devil that's supposed to be in the corner rubbed off a long time ago and there are scratches all over the screen too. User page attack[edit]

I thought you should know that User:Duke53 has again set up his user page to attack another editor. I think that this attack is uncalled for and violates Wikipedia policy, but I don't know who to talk to about it. Remember 15:23, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

image deletion features[edit]

Got your talk message about adding a feature to my toolbox to assist with image deletion. I tried to copy the text from your monobox into mine, but keep having trouble. Your page has all the text within the dashed box but on mine it is being broken up into multiple boxes and does not seem to have made any difference to my toolbox, even after doing the Ctrl-F5 purge.

I am really not that technically inclined and know nothing about javascripting (or any programing).

I dont know what I am doing wrong, but I got a flow down with my text boxes and cut-and-paste. Thanks for the offer, it sounds like it would be good. Just dont have any idea how to make it work.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 12:33, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you did something, but it is now working. Perhaps there was a time delay, whatever. But you are correct, it makes nominating SO much easier. Thanks for pointing me to it.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 15:35, 8 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RealPlayer Page => RealDownload Criticism[edit]

Hi, I see you have placed a link to a criticism, which is really outdated because:

  • This issue is about RealDownload, not RealPlayer. RealDownload has nothing to do with realplayer. The only relation between these two programs is the company - RealNetworks
  • RealDownload is an outdated program, which means it's unavailable for download.
  • This issue was fixed...

Please do not put this link again. Have a nice day, Joanna

Tournament section in SSBM[edit]

Hey, I noticed that you added a lot of fact tags in the tournament section. Many of the facts were already covered in the other citations in that section. There are 9 citation in that short tournament section. I clumped all the citation needed into one citation because too many citations can make the article look sloppy. I think the requirements are met as long as we have proved the factuality of the section. Cheers :) Valoem talk 21:58, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Need explanation of your action[edit]

On 17 September 2006, you removed my talk at Talk:Public Domain Enhancement Act as your so-called "spam". Applying Wikipedia:Assume good faith, a policy, I totally disagree your actions because:

  1. After reviewing Wikipedia:Spam, a guideline but not a policy, I have no reasonable ground to believe my talk as a "spam".
  2. After reviewing Help:Talk page, I can think of no mistake of mine.
  3. Wikipedia:Ignore all rules, a policy, says, "If the rules prevent you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore them."
  4. Too many countries, including the USA and the EU member states, extend automatic copyright without regard to abandoned copyright. These copyright extensions are preventing us from improving Wikipedia, so encouraging others to sign a Public Domain Enhancement Act Petition will just be better for us as passing the Act into a law will allow us to reclaim public domain from abandoned copyright. Therefore, removing my talk as your so-called "spam" will only discourage others from talk and be potentially destructive.

For these reasons, please reconsider your removal of my talk at Talk:Public Domain Enhancement Act as your so-called "spam".--Jusjih 06:55, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Metroid2002 picture deletion[edit]

Well, it seems that the image was deleted afterall. I disagree with that, but I guess that gone is gone. However, I do think that I should take the time to tell you that I didn't like discussing it with you very much. You didn't pay attention to some of my arguments even after I repeatedly told you that you should respond to them. I even wrote in bold text that there are arguments you hadn't paid attention to (like the fact that the image did satisfy criteria; and even if it didn't, the argument with which you tried to prove that was flawed; or the fact that this information is already all used for commercial purposes and that Wikipedia 1.0 has absolutely nothing to do with this at all). Yet, you continued to rehash old arguments as if you didn't even notice the things I was telling you. Please don't do that in the future, as it's terribly annoying and a big waste of my time. —msikma <user_talk:msikma> 16:30, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Burning Blaze[edit]

I really don't think that the image is needed at all. Yes, it illustrates Burning Blaze, but it's a paragraph's worth of content. I don't believe that this qualifies as enough "critical commentary" per WP:FUC to justify the fair use claim. In any case, I'd just rather wait until we get official artwork, because that image from the DS is just really, really bad. Hbdragon88 01:17, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's just the thing. We may never get official artwork and then we're left pictureless which is just plain no good. In the situation we have here, the image is fine as is, unless a better quality version can be made. IF official artwork is released (which I severely doubt) than that can be uploaded in the place of it.GrandMasterGalvatron 02:19, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm for removing images and only including them when necessary...but never mind that. Hbdragon88 21:53, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very well. I was actually up for the suggestion of getting a really good fan rendered image up there (I could make one of near Sonic Channel quality), but I'm not certain of Wikipedia's policy on something like that.GrandMasterGalvatron

Warning[edit]

And let me warn you - do not send out laughably false warnings. Your warning implies that I removed the AfD tag, as if I was trying to stop the AfD. However, it was nothing like that, so I look down on abusive usage of warnings which lack a good faith basis. - A Link to the Past (talk) 06:43, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was a redirect already. There was no point in AfDing it. - A Link to the Past (talk) 07:08, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Blanking is also against WP rules. Turning an article into a redirect is blanking. If removing an AfD by turning it into a redirect is vandalism, then so is that.
Are you able to prove that what I was doing was for the purpose of interfering with the AfD process or to do damage to anything? I suspect not. My purpose was to return it to a redirect because the content was available on a different article. - A Link to the Past (talk) 07:20, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm waiting. Additionally, the content is redundant. I am redirecting it for the same reason I'd turn two articles about Super Smash Bros. into only one. - A Link to the Past (talk) 08:12, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That still does not show any sign of vandalism. - A Link to the Past (talk) 19:09, 5 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you start a discussion regarding the importance scale of Spider-Man 3, since you've been reverted a couple of times. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 18:23, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your argument, and I would support demotion on films who do not have proven franchise backgrounds. I just did some clean-up editing for Watchmen, currently labeled "High", and I realized that it's a film whose importance could not be determined; while there is a fan base, there is no telling how "good" the film could be in the hands of the new director. I have a link repository of similar films to Spider-Man 3. Feel free to sift through them; some films may have inappropriately marked importance scales and lack the franchise support like SM3 has. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 01:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Duke Nukem Forever[edit]

Hbdragon88,

The entire Reception section of Duke Nukem Forever not really relevant. Your PPOV does not permit you to choose what goes in there and what doesn't since this section is just for tidbits of info where the game is mentioned, it's mostly for comic relief.

So either add back the GameFaqs info I added this morning or remove the entire Reception section.

Thank you Duhman0009 06:58, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you understood the reason I placed it there in the first place. As I stated when I wrote it, the site GameFaqs (not the user) love to make fun of the game by putting it as a joke answer. I don't care about the results, the point is that the name of the game is mentioned sometimes as a joke answer for their poll. I'm not trying to pass GameFaqs polls as reliable game source information for the release date.

WP:AN[edit]

Yanksox - if I remember my TV watching days correctly, it's "expressed written permission" from the NFL to rebroadcast, reshow, etc. in any method.

I was kind of joking around, humor doesn't translate well on the internet. :) Yanksox 16:45, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion was already attempted once and the consensus was to keep so another round of deletion isn't necessary. Cburnett 16:09, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So are you going to prune it like you mentioned, or will I have to revert back to my simplified version? You haven't replied on the talk page. ReyBrujo brought up an interesting point that an excessively long summary might be a copyright violation. I mean, I'll leave it alone if you signal that you're going to work on it. I don’t think I said, nor did I intend to imply, that I would prune it. I was just saying that most of the concerns raised by you and the 3rd opinions would be better addressed by modifying the text, instead of basically deleting it as you were doing. But very well, I will try to work on it after I finish my current Poképroject in about a week, give or take 3 days. I have to admit that on closer examination, your most recent shortening of the summary is much better than your original 2-line version, but it still seems a bit extreme and neglectful of the middle, I’ll look for a happy medium.
The copyvio issue is definitely a potential concern, but given that it was a response to my own still-valid point about the abundance of far more detailed synopses, I’d like to see examples of where this has been a problem for Wikipedia, and how they relate to this particular instance, before we act based on that bit of discussion. I really don’t see how these attacks on game synopses are justified when no one ever presents the same objections to film or TV synopses. --WikidSmaht (talk) 02:59, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
