Is this overkill?[edit]

Is this template overkill? It is missing many casinos that if they were added would significantly increase the size of this template. Would it be better to maintain one of the lists of casinos instead? Also it probably should be set up to match the state reporting areas which this one does not. 1. Overkill? More like an overwhelming eye sore! A simple See also section on the article pages pointing to List of resorts in greater Las Vegas (Avoiding the terms Hotel and/or Casino, as not all are necessarily both – yet by definition, all would be resorts.)
  2. You mean like Nevada Palace, O'Sheas, Aztec (But it burned down last week)...
  3. The reporting areas would be irrelavent to an encyclopedia article. There are MANY different methods of grouping/categorizing these (Room count, location, zipcode, telephone number, reported income, opening date, building color, alphabetically by CEO's first borns blood type and eye color [tongue in cheek]...). Hey, there's a GREAT idea, now only if MediaWiki software did categories – Oh wait, it does. *Smile*
If the Rio is "Outlying", wouldn't Westin, San Remo, & Bourbon Street be also?

What does the strip mean[edit]

What does the strip mean? Off strip properities are listed as being on the strip. Is this by design or an error. A problem because the standard gaming districts are not being used? Vegaswikian 05:12, 10 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The Nevada State Dept. of Bussiness and Industry operates the Nevada Taxicab Authority by special use of Nevada Highway Patrol officers – defines The Strip as:
All addresses containing Las Vegas Blvd from US95 to Sunset Road, EXCLUDING Olympic Gardens AND All addresses South of Sahara Road and North of Desert Inn Road from LVB to Paradise Road, EXCLUDING the LV Convention Center
(All are Government offices, the Government offices of your choice may define The Strip differently [point being made here]) and (OG is owned by one of the (7) owners of Yellow-Checker-Star cabs and got a special case setup when the cab drivers boycotted OG when he supported $500 fines for EACH incident where a driver was given a TIP or Commision,) Anyhow...
The Short of it all? Sorting them by any organization method is really overkill. Possibly, On Strip, Off Strip, Outlying — (RIO, Gold Coast, the Palms, Hard Rock (all part of The Golden Triangle) are not outlying or my taximeter is broken! — See section above also – Guy M (soapbox) 09:25, August 10, 2005 (UTC)
  • You seem to have some insight on the On-Strip/Balance of County reporting areas (as mentioned in the Las Vegas Metro article). I've seen references that place Rio as a Strip Hotel, and the Palms/Gold Coast as not. Obviously, these are *not* on the Strip, so it just may be marketing. Do you know definitively if they are "Balance of the County" hotels for gaming reporting purposes?
    • Don't have a good answer. But is it time for Wikipedia:WikiProject Las Vegas Valley? I'm still busy setting up another project but would be happy to join in this one if it got created. There is so much work to be done and we could use a central plan. Vegaswikian 20:57, 11 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
