RE: External links

No problem about the edits, I was not aware of the wikipedia rule regarding external links and I had changed everything to read 'official site' for consistency. Just wanted everything to be the same, I thought if they all looked similar it would look better, more professional. I thought about changing them and just putting in the name of the channel, take out the 'official website' part but the way you have done them looks good too. Nantes

Hello again; it seems we have a little trouble at Nantes, with an anonymous user, 194.51.96.182 (talk), most likely the same person as the one who was causing all the trouble a few months ago. He is adding ungramatical rubbish; telling me to go look for references myself for what he has written; repeatedly changing the name of the section Intercity rail to Trains, without replying on the talk page; and threatening to call in an admin.
After all this, I left a warning on his talk page and reverted him. He then reverted me, and said that I was, infact, a sockpuppet.

Elections templates

I totally agree with yanking the parliaments template off the elections articles; in fact, I was just in the process of deliberating how to phrase a request to that very effect myself. I think the main points that should be raised are that (a) it's just template creep, and (b) the arrangement of those templates — elections, whitespace, parliaments, whitespace, mini electoral district linkbox — is just gawdawful (particularly given that the latter two aren't the same size as the first one, and especially on the 2006 election where there's also that really freaking ugly "most recent elections" box on top of them all.)

But for what it's worth, so far I've only killed the sequence box on those elections to which I've already added the election infobox header; I haven't yet systematically gone through anything prior to 1984. Bearcat (talk) 00:13, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, Ground Zero, we'll keep an eye on this. I was mainly concerned with the Broadstairs article. If need be, we'll warn him/her and then revert/put on semi-protect if no notice taken. David Platt (Coronation Street)

Recently, Ground Zero undid some of my edits to the Wikipedia entry for the fictional character, David Platt (Coronation Street). In particular, GZ undid some changes I had made to headings in the article that it turns out had been contrary to the WP:HEAD guidelines. Moreover, GZ undid some wikilinks that I had created that had been contrary to the guidelines at WP:CONTEXT.

In both cases, I want to express how grateful I am to GZ for these changes as they have proved very instructive to me. I am new to copy editing at Wikipedia. While it can be fun, I am novice enough to know that any guidance is welcome!

Easy Flame War Prevention

Hey, I witnessed 3 flame wars (people fighting over a page with re-edit and undo) and involved in one over just 2 days of somewhat active contributing of wiki. I noticed that some of these fights can be easily prevented in the first place if proper precautions are used by the unofficial moderators. For example:

You aren't entirely correct here. The article is about national politcs, not about American national politics. Any politician who ran or held office at a national level (as opposed to a state/provincial or more local level) and was allegedly a member of the KKK would be appropriately listed, even if he the nation of that national level were not America. This got discussed on the talk page.

There had been a Canadian politician noted in that article. I had argued that the section be removed, because it didn't even assert his membership; only that the KKK had supported his candidacy. —SlamDiego_←T 18:39, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Would appreciate some help

I came across the Michael Jackson article as it is extremely long and some of the references are from fan pages. In addition there is a lot of information that is also contained on the articles for the albums. I have considered your comments, and I do not agree with them. My use of "shame on you" was in reference to GoldDragon ignoring Wikipedia's rules. I have crossed swords with GoldDragon on numerous occasions. While s/he is usually a constructive editor, on occasion, s/he flouts Wikipedia's rules, as s/he has in this case. GD's talk page shows numerous complaints from other editors about violatiung the 3RR rule. In this case, GD ignored your post on his/her page about not changing Canadian spelling to American spelling, and did so again in the same article you had cited.
