Thanks for your concern. I left a single word there because I'm a lazy bastard, hah. Seriously, I thought I'd left a more compelling argument, honestly. I'll add a comment to that discussion. --Myles Long 17:13, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Metallica

I removed the proposed deletion on the Untitled Metallica album. See the talk page for the reasons. Anthony Hit me up... 01:20, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Andiamo

I created the Andiamo article because after adding the link to the Heikintori article, I saw that it went to some album by some punk rock band I had never even heard of. I had to create this article to let people know it's a shoe store chain, not an album. JIP | Talk 18:44, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I was going on this: "They were offered one of the biggest deals given to a new artist on Tooth and Nail". I admit I did not go and look up Tooth and Nail Records. If they don't exist or aren't notable, feel free to re-speedy. Thanks, NawlinWiki 01:56, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing this out- if you want to nominate for deletion, have fun. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FisherQueen (talkcontribs)

Afd close

Thank you very much. It had been awhile since I closed one and thanks again for the link.--Dakota 20:12, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Couple of comments on the message you've been sending out to a few people (I've been expecting one myself since seeing your remove the template from some of my afd closures). Firstly, if I'm viewing the afd discussion on the log page (which I usually do, especially when closing AFDs) I close it by clicking on the 'edit' link by the section header. If the 'remove this' template is positioned above the section header (often it is) then I can't remove it (of course I could then click on the page edit tab, but that's extra work, and I don't think the closing admin should be forced to do that when a bot can and does). Secondly you point to Wikipedia:AfD categories as being 'official policy'. Actually I see that it is tagged as a guideline. Petros471 20:50, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. That would explain why I didn't get the message then :) I just wanted you to know in case you hadn't realised (and obviously being involved in that project maybe do something about it!) Cheers, Petros471 21:05, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I missed one. I have been obeying the instruction normally... Tyrenius 03:20, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Warning authors of deletable pages

When you propose a page for AfD, could you please leave a {{subst:afd|Name of article}} message on the user talk pages of the editors who contributed significantly to the article? I left a note at User talk:Ultrajosh after I saw that you had nominated for AfD an article that User:Ultrajosh had created. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 21:52, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I meant to say {{subst:adw|Name of article}}. adw probably stands for Article Deletion Warning. I'm sorry. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 19:46, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

While the content looks just as dubious (and is edited by the same editor as) the original, I can't just delete it again because, as you've pointed out, the content is different. I've gone ahead and put the page back up on AfD here. Hope that helps! :) Mo0[talk] 03:18, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Yr message on User talk:Igbogirl

I am confuzzled. I thought this was closed by talkcontribs. I would actually be quite concerned if such a new editor as Igbogirl were yet closing AfDs. Have I missed something? Fiddle Faddle 10:22, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

You are correct, I mixed up the nominator and closer. I have fixed it now. Thanks for catching that and letting me know.--Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 12:01, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Ah, my mistake. :) I'm aware of the categories, guess I just managed to miss that one (somehow). I'll have a look over the other closures I've done, recently. Luna Santin 16:13, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I don't think I've done any other closes recently. User:Zoe|(talk) 19:32, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

BTW, I didn't close it, User:MER-C did.  :) User:Zoe|(talk) 20:05, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
I deleted the article, and posted on the AfD page that I had deleted it as an A7. MER-C refactored my comment into a closing. User:Zoe|(talk) 20:17, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
When you see lingering templates such as these, be bold and just remove them, it isn't necessary to leave me a message about it.  ;-) Thanks, Can't sleep, clown will eat me 23:16, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Bot523

Unfortunately, getting the bot to alert closers wouldn't be very easy; it works by loading up each AfD older than a week old to see if it's closed, and decatting it if it is (it checks to see if it's closed by looking for part of the text of {{at}}). It doesn't know who's closed the AfD; it would be possible for it to check and then send User Talk messages to the closer, but it isn't approved for User Talk edits, and the annoyance to the admins (especially if they'd missed many in the row) would probably cause more problems then getting them to be more careful. (On a side note, you may want to check the history of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Podma Pettit; that was embarrasing, being corrected by my own bot!) You could help by looking for non-substed {{at}} templates (check the 'What links here of' {{Afd top}}); there are often some of these, and they confuse the bot (not to mention hurting the servers). You could also help the WP:AFDC process in general by categorizing uncategorized open AfDs. If you're interested, I (reasonably regularly) upload some of the bot's output to User:ais523/UnclosedAfDs, which are often worth looking at (it contains AfDs more than a week old according to the categories which haven't been closed); many of them will be relisted debates or debates corrected by User:DumbBOT (which don't need action), but some of them will be overdue closures (especially the more recent ones) or malformed AfDs (which you can help by correcting). Some of the bot's code (the bit that does the edits) is available at User:Bot523/monobook.js; the rest (not currently available online) is code to analyse query.php and produce a shortlist of likely closable AfDs. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! --ais523 12:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

The Blind King

Hi. You recently ensured that a page I created about my band The Blind King got deleted. Apparently the primary criterion for deletion was a lack of major-label support, e.g. the band's "too indie" because we foot the bill for producing our own records.

I thought The Blind King was notable because almost every member is a current or former member of another notable Boston act, sort of a local "Super Group". My idea was to use the Blind King article as a stepping-off place to document a vibrant, interconnected community of independent musicians who continue to make music despite a lack of "commercial success." This is a big part of what the Boston music scene is all about (e.g. this ain't L.A., no one here really expects to "make it", and yet they keep making music). I figured a logical starting place would be a little-known group whose members have had a foot in almost every Boston music scene for the last 20 years.

Before I even had a chance to get into that, I was forced into the position of having to prove our own "notability", and frankly, I just gave up in the face of the onslaught. I guess writing about your own band is "vanity", no matter what the intent.

Since you are a self-proclaimed expert at what does and does not belong in Wikipedia, can you suggest a way I could document this fascinating, influential music scene (and the various bands in it) without my work being summarily deleted? How do I "prove" the notability of a group to those who are not familiar with this scene? If I can only write about groups that everyone already knows about, then what's the point in contributing at all?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Follow-up to The Blind King

After a careful review of the WP:BAND guidelines I see that The Blind King doesn't yet qualify for WP:BAND since:

a) though we got an Honor Award in the 2004 Great American Song Contest, we didn't win or place b) the linked interview wasn't on national radio but on SmallWorld Podcast c) other interviews were on local radio d) our reviews so far have only been in local publications e) only one member is in another band that is currently listed on Wikipedia (though this will eventually change as articles get added) f) being in rotation on IndieFeed / iTunes isn't the same as being in rotation on a national radio station g) we release our own albums h) we have only one song released by a notable label (Deep Elm)

Eventually I'll submit articles on some of our related bands, which I believe will meet the qualifications, but for now I think I'll leave it up to the other kids to try to convince the Wikipediasts that they're notable.

I apologize for my initial huffiness and wish you the best.

Quick image delete

Hey. I noticed that you're doing a lot of image work (lots of IFD nominations). I wanted to point quickimgdelete, a handy little javascript that speedies up the IFD process. You can copy the three scripts that you need from my monobook.js. Just post it in your monobook.js. In the toolbox (below the search bar), you can tag the images accordingly. Hello, Gay Cdn. You notified a user about an unsourced image. He/she has given the source and it is this Sammul Chan fansite. Still, i don't know if it will be spared from deletion as it is fair use. :(--Tdxiang 09:20, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Images you nominated for deletion

Hi, there are a few images you nominated for deletion on Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 October 9 that seem to be missing the image name. Could you please fix these? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 20:05, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

WP:IFD logs

Hi, could you please NOT remove the redlinked entries from the log pages? Let's come to some sort of consensus regarding this practice at Wikipedia talk:Images and media for deletion before unilaterally implementing this. Also, please note that many of the blue links you leave are actually images from Commons that are either identical to the deleted image or are different ones that happen to have the same names -- regardless, Commons images are deleted there, not here (the point being that it's a bit confusing when you attempt to point out that the deletion is still pending when in fact it isn't). Thanks so much. howcheng {chat} 23:19, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

vote to keep Image:White Crested Cockatoo .jpg

Image:White Crested Cockatoo .jpg is not orphaned it's on Bird images, Cacatuidae, Umbrella Cockatoo, Wikipedia:List of images/Nature/Animals/Birds , & User:Chuck Marean/gallery page one. And it used to be on the Birds article too an maybe still ought to be. This photo illustrates the sharp, powerful jaws and strong cage of the Umbrella Cockatoo as well as its 92% tame personality. People new to cockatoos and other kinds of parrots seem to think the birds can be carried on the shoulder. However, that is not a good idea because the creatures are sometimes in a bad mood. It's an important picture. -- Chuck Marean 10:10, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

"Apse" image upload issue

Hello, you recently told me that an image I uploaded (1171351522_l.jpg) had no copyright information. This is correct...I had forgotten to do that. However, I am no longer going to use that picture, and in fact, would prefer it to be deleted. I am not sure if I can do this, or if you can do it, but regardless, that is what I want to happen.

When a picture is an orphan it is deleted ?? What nonsense

My understanding was that a picture that has some quality is kept when it is useful. When you do not want it on en. you can move things to Commons.. Deletion for a useful and properly labeled picture is imho vandalism. GerardM 03:56, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Image:Spyniepalace.jpg

You marked this image for deletion because it is a so called "orphan". Check out the article, Spynie Palace, and you will see that it has been in use since 26 September 2006. I would appreciate if you would remove the deletion tag. Billreid 07:46, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

You have marked my photo for deletion because there is no copyright information. As it says, this is my own photograph as are all the photos on the page on which it appears. Please remove the tag. Sah10406 09:16, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't know who removed it from the Chris Daughtry article, as I thought it was significant enough for inclusion. If you feel it deserves the axe though, chop away... --DodgerOfZion 20:31, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
