Dates[edit]

Please see WP:Dates#Partial dates, a quote from the article says,

'If the date does not contain both a month and a day, date preferences do not apply: linking or not linking the date will make no difference to the text that the reader sees. So when considering whether such a date should be linked or not, editors should take into account the usual considerations about links, including the recommendations of Wikipedia:Only make links that are relevant to the context.'

In other words, its some what pointless to link random dates in the body of an article, unless of course it is a rather significant date. This should also be applied to the reference/note section of an article, especially since date links in a reference section will not improve the readers understanding of an article. --ShadowJester07Talk 14:49, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where did I link dates that didn't contain a month and a day? --fullcourt 14:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Ha, I did not see that until I read your edit summary. I was using pop-ups to preview your edits, and only saw a portion of your edits, so It appeared as if you were just linking random dates in the article. :-p Sorry for the confusion, I should of viewed the actual page. --ShadowJester07Talk 15:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

3RR[edit]

Hello, you are getting very close to violating the the three revert rule, [1], [2], [3]. I do not wish to block you or anyone else for it, so please stop the reverts and take it to a talk page to work it out. Thanks. KOS | talk 15:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NBA roster header[edit]

Was looking at your NBA roster template. Looks nice, but I can see one major improvement.

I recommend that the "school" should be for display only, with an underlying link to, say, "school_name", where you would enter the article that you want linked. Two reasons:

  • First, not every school goes by "University of Foo". Just to name a few examples...
    • Fresno State = California State University, Fresno
    • Providence = Providence College
    • Army, Navy, Air Force = United States Military/Naval/Air Force Academy
    • Boston College = Boston College
  • Second, the most relevant link in this context is not to the main school article, but to the article for its athletic program or men's basketball program. So, "Alabama" should, IMHO, redirect to Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball instead of University of Alabama. However, the University of Kentucky has no men's basketball article at present, but instead a general athletics article at Kentucky Wildcats. To add to the confusion, the article for men's basketball at the University of Arkansas is at Arkansas Razorbacks basketball, without a "men's" dab, because that school has a completely different nickname for its women's teams. — Dale Arnett 19:46, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Took a second look. Looks like you have a data file that makes the correct links, at least to the schools. — Dale Arnett 13:52, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NBA roster template problem[edit]

There are still a few colleges in the roster templates that aren't displaying properly (How is St Vincent St Mary HS supposed to be displayed as anyway?). I understand why you set the template up this way, but do you think it should be made easier to edit this section, even if somebody wants to directly link to the school's athletic page, and not their main page? (Florida Gators in lieu of University of Florida for example). Could you please get back to me on this? Dknights411 19:05, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting from {{NBA roster header}}. {{player2}}, and {{NBA roster footer}} for other uses[edit]

I spoke to Aervanath about these templates it was suggested that I'd talk to you about it. How do I get access to the formatting to the templates??? Because I wanted to use it on the following templates:

{{Amigas y Rivales}}

{{EWS CORP}}

{{Detroit TV}}

{{ABC Michigan}}

{{CHR-T40 Michigan}}

{{Jackass}}

I want to make those templates look like this...

{{Oklahoma City Thunder roster}}

The reason... Look at how nicely everything is lined up column wise. Second, there are no lines separating each column. It's like using PowerPoint within the excess in visible division lines. You know what I mean!?!? I also want to do this, because I wanted to experiment with sub-formatting that allows users to collapse multiple groups in a template.

Please help me... I've been on Wikipedia since 2005, but I'm still trying to find my way around more advanced techniques. I hope you understand!!! WIKIVUE Detroit (talk) THU OCT 9 2008 10:16 PM EDT | FRI OCT 10 2008 2:16 AM UTC
