How to sign your posts[edit]

There are two ways to sign your posts:

1. At the end of your comments, simply type four tildes (~), like this: ~~~~.

2. If you are using the edit toolbar option (which must be enabled under Special:Preferences), click the signature icon () to add the four tildes.

Your signature will appear after you have saved the changes.

The end result is the same in both cases. Typing four tildes will result in the following:

Since typing four tildes adds the time and date to your resulting signature, this is the preferred option for signing your posts in discussions.

Typing three tildes results in the following:

Since this does not date-stamp your signature, you may wish to sign this way when leaving general notices on your user page or user talk page. This is also a convenient shortcut (rather than typing out the full code) when you want to provide a link to your user page.

Typing five tildes will convert to a date stamp with the current date and time, without adding your signature, like this:

Note that if you choose to contribute to Wikipedia without logging in, you should still sign your posts. In this case, your IP address will take the place of your username.

Your IP address might look something like this: 192.0.2.58. Some users prefer to use their IP address instead of a user name because they think that an IP provides them with more anonymity. In actual fact, a pseudonymous account (that is, a registered user name) actually provides you with more protection of your identity as IP addresses can be easily tracked by anyone.

Note also that signing manually with a pseudonym or tag such as --anon does not give you more anonymity or privacy protection, since your IP address will still be stored in the page history. This also makes it more difficult for other users to communicate with you. If you choose to sign this way, you should still type four tildes: --anon ~~~~.

Anglicanism[edit]

Frederick, please proof read, your change with the rather sarcastic edit summary "Does this need cleaning" was littered with grammatical and spelling errors, the year Dominus Jesus was issued is also mangled - which year was it? (the text reads "200"). Where there is cited text, even if you think it is wrong, don't just delete it, discuss it first, preferably giving alternative citations supporting you view. Dear Mr. Jones, I see that you have encountered the punctilious Garzo. WP tends to attract a variety of anally retentive folk as well as bad typists like you and me. I learned the hard way that one has to be precise and observe conventions. You see, above, that even the normally moderate David Underdown gets into a tangle over asking you to proofread and then mistyping his comment. He, however, has a sense of humour. WP allows people to exercise ephemeral power over others and thus performs a harmless exercise of preventing street fights, wars etc. It may even lessen marital discord but I have no record of that.

I see that you have a penchant for Dix. I no longer rhave any copies of his material, but have recently relied on McCulloch's Thomas Cranmer It is not as good as it should be on the BCP and conclusions are not always defended. Fredrick, your additions, whilst valuable, are still taking a lot of re-working each time to fit into the existing article. Please could you take more care over spacing and punctuation in particular, and use the same reference style as alerady exists in the article. I know it seems slightly complicated at first, but it's not that hard - particularly where you are adding a further citation from a book which is already used. License tagging for Image:St Stephen's House Oxford.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:St Stephen's House Oxford.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
