GA Failed

I declined speedy because schools, school administrators, people with schools named after them are sensitive subjects among the community. Instead I have taken this to AFD. Cheers, Carlossuarez46 20:10, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for helping me launch my page on I'll Bet. I really apreciate it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RSprings123 (talkcontribs) 03:18, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Cop Out

Say do you have any pictures for Cop Out that would go good on the new Cop-Out page? RSprings123 —Preceding unsigned comment added by RSprings123 (talkcontribs) 17:16, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your note, and I hope I helped (and sorry for my mistake, I think I was looking at the history of the talk page). My copy of "The Encyclopedia of Daytime Television" doesn't have an entry for this show, so I can't help further. Accounting4Taste 19:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh ok, I wondered why that was up there and no I didn't use those books because I don't have them. I don't know who did it but I figure it was a Wikipedian that wasn't a part of the site anymore. I think he left because of the whole non-free image thing. Anyway, I thought you meant for the links below, my bad. - BrothaTimothy (UTC) August 28, 2007 6:42 PM

RE: Cross-Wits

Well, I did indeed see the first ten minutes of that episode. Let me see what I put down...whoops, sorry <(. I feel so bad. I just corrected that. But there is one if you visit the official Ralph Edwards Productions site. But you would think that if the first ten minutes were recorded, there would be the other half! RSprings123

Biggspowd

The best thing you can do about this guy is, if you suspect he's using sockpuppets and IP puppets, compile evidence that shows a correlation and file a checkuser request. This will prove once and for all if its the same person. I don't really get why they didn't lengthen the block on the main account after it was obvious he was evading his block by editing under the IP, but that's Wikipedia for you. The Parsnip! 23:35, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Have a look here [1]. This is where you file the request and also where you can read up on how to file the request. If you'd rather I do it, that's fine, but I can't guarantee I'll have time to get to it right away. Just e-mail the info to me. The Parsnip! 15:54, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
You can email me through Wikipedia by going to my talk page, then looking in the "toolbox" column on the left. There's a link there to email me. The Parsnip! 13:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of High Rollers

Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am glad to be reviewing the article High Rollers you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 3 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Pursey 05:25, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

FamicomJL, I've begun my review of High Rollers. I have a few concerns at this point on first glance, and I'll be reviewing the article in in around a day. There are several headings with only a line or two of information. Perhaps this could be rolled into other sections, a trivia heading, etc. In the schedule history, the show seems to be referenced as HR. If I click straight to this section, I'd find it confusing, not 100% sure what HR was referring to. Perhaps change this to High Rollers, 'the show', etc. I only have minor concerns regarding your references and I'm taking into account the comments on the article's talk page. There's also quite a few red-links on the article... could these be fixed? I'll drop tomorrow and check out the article again and do my full review. Pursey 06:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know you've updated the article. I'll begin my review. This process may take up to 24 hours. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Pursey 17:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
I have completed my review of High Rollers. Full details are available on the article's talk page. Please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page if you have any further questions or comments regarding this review. Pursey 12:50, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Bignosecover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Bignosecover.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Doki Doki Panik

You asked about the trivia in the Doki Doki Panic page about the undumped hybrid between DDP and SMB2.

While I hadn't heard about it, it seems as if the user that added it was Donknotts on 04:28, 14 December 2006.

I assume that he must have information on it, so I asked him about it on his talk page.

I assume that your interested as well. Do you want to try to find out about this too? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xensyria (talkcontribs) 16:55, 17 December 2006 (UTC).

Faux Pause sources

You said: Hello, as you had stated in the AFD Faux Pause entry, the article would need soruces. However, there was an article, specifically this one: http://www.xanfan.com/hotpotato/fauxpause.htm, HOWEVER, IIRC, the person said it WASN'T a source...but wouldn't it be a source? Xanfan is considered a trustworthy game show writer...his website is filled with true factual information. My question is, wouldn't it be a true source, then? Thanks. FamicomJL 04:19, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

The Xanfan source is technically a "source," but may not be considered to be a "reliable source" by most editors, according to the Wikipedia policy discussing reliable sources. If it was one source among many, it would be acceptable as a source for more information, but by itself it isn't enough to establish information. It looks like a blog website of some sort, and the attribution policy says this about that: "Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published . . . visiting a stranger's personal website is often the online equivalent of reading an unattributed flyer on a lamp post. For that reason, self-published material is largely not acceptable."
You might want to check into searching the Google News Archives (which is a new function that Google recently introduced) with a search something like this: [2]. That way, you don't have to rely on archived press releases from GSN (which, incidentally, would be self-published primary sources, not secondary sources). Of course, most of the archived articles you'll turn up will be behind subscription firewalls. That doesn't stop you from citing them, as long as you're sure that they do in fact confirm the information you think they do.
If you have sources in print form (books, newspapers, magazines), you can also cite those—Wikipedia doesn't rely entirely on web-based sources. See WP:CITE for instructions on how to do that correctly.
I hope this info helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. —Carolfrog 04:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
You said: Hello, I keep trying to put in the two sources, and it won't work, for some reason. What's the best and easiest way to add sources to an article? Thanks. Still a clueless newbie...FamicomJL 02:36, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I wasn't around to help the other day. It looks like you got it figured out, though.  :) Let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll try to reply more promptly. ≈≈Carolfrog≈≈♦тос♦ 02:24, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Hesaidshesaid.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Hesaidshesaid.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 04:55, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

To Tell the Truth GA nom

I see that you recently nominated the game show for GA. However the article currently has no inline citations, which is a requirement for the GA criteria. Also, the images need a fair use rationale. Rather than having the article failed, consider removing the article from nomination until you have improved the article to meet the GA criteria. Let me know if you have any questions and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 00:05, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Basically you need to find sources for all information that any reader may question about their verifiability. This could do with ratings, the current "citation needed" tags, and other unsourced information. Use the citation templates to include information from documentaries, magazines, journals, news articles, and websites. Look to other similar passed GAs to see what else you can add and how the citations work (I'd recommend using the "Show preview" button a lot!). Good luck and let me know if that explained it for you. --Nehrams2020 06:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
You found a reference and some links, but they need to be converted into inline citations as well, so readers can click on the number and see what source you are using rather than having to click on the link and follow it. Keep the reference you have at the bottom, but create another section called footnotes and copy and paste the code found on another GA in a references section. If you edit the whole page and then show preview you can see if it worked alright. Again, look at what other GAs are using and pretty much copy the templates/code they are using. If you get stuck, I can help you later. --Nehrams2020 19:34, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Very good, but keep going. For this article, I'd recommend at least 10-20 inline citations due to its length and the subject it covers. Remember that inline citations go directly after the punctuation with no space in between, so make sure you fix those. Also for the images, they still need a fair use rationale. An example of what you could include can be found at Image:Evanark.jpg. --Nehrams2020 20:20, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
You can add the FURs to his images as well, since they are being used on the article page. And no problem, I want you to get your GA. It took me a lot of work to get my first one also. --Nehrams2020 20:42, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
That should be fine. The more reasons you add for including the image on the page, the less likely it will be deleted and the stronger your argument for including it. --Nehrams2020 20:46, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I took a look at the page, and I immediately noticed a formatting issue with your cites; you need to remove the space between the punctuation and the citations (which is an easy fix), and you should use the "cite web" template for your cites (another easy fix). However, the quality of your citations is a bit more problematic; you have a bunch of links to Geocities and Lycos sites, and a distinct lack of links to reliable sources. You might need to come up with better citations than what you are currently using. Horologium t-c 01:12, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

I went through the article and fixed some minor mistakes. Make sure to convert the links in the "Fifth edition (2000–2002, syndicated)" and "Episode status" are converted into inline citations using the cite templates. It is likely that the article will not be reviewed for a month (I reviewed yours the first time so quickly because I check all new candidates to see if they would be quick-failed) so in the meantime, continue to expand it and add more citations. The more you have, the better sourced your article, and the more likely that the article will be passed. I can't review the article since I helped you too much, but good luck with the nomination. --Nehrams2020 01:21, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Challengersward.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Challengersward.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 21:47, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of To Tell The Truth

The article To Tell The Truth you nominated as a good article has failed , see Talk:To Tell The Truth for reasons why the nomination failed. Re: GSN

I suppose there's room for statements like what you said regarding GSN. I think we're on the same page when I say that stuff like "It is unknown whether GSN owns the rights to xx", "GSN aired reruns of this show from April 1999 to September 2002", or speculations like "xx may or may not return to GSN in 2008" is not fitting for WP. Right? --Goldrushcavi 03:36, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: Tim Donaghy

Thanks for the comment! Your addition of an infobox was great and being able to dig up a photo that could be considered fair-use was helpful. It sounds like Donaghy is definitely guilty based on what Stern said and due to the fact that Donaghy has his Florida house up for sale. What do you think? RyguyMN 06:24, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

One more thing...do you have a source where his three children are noted? Since that is not in the bio, it probably would be helpful to have it sourced. RyguyMN 06:26, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I either heard or read somewhere that his house was for sale. I've been following this story as much as you have, so all the stories seem to blur right now. :) I didn't include it in the article because I didn't think it was relevant enough to the article. It could be seen as a coincidence to the betting on games. He did ref some of the Suns/Spurs series, so I wonder if there was any influence early in the series. I think ESPN said he did Game 2. This gives all the conspiracy theorists all the ammo they need. With all the questionable officiating especially in the last 10 years or so, it does make one wonder. Could other guys be taking money too? A lot of these refs are from the Philly area (Steve Javie, Joe Crawford, and Mike Callahan), so there could be some links to other guys. Heck this could go way back to even Mendy Rudolph, who was known to be a heavy gambler. RyguyMN 06:56, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Here's the link to his house being up for sale: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2943095 RyguyMN 07:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm all for locking this article since this IP address is making blantant vandalism edits. Do we need an admin to protect the page? RyguyMN 17:10, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

I reported that IP to the admins to block that user from future edits. Let's see what happens from here. RyguyMN 18:13, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the lockdown! Now we need to get people to use the talk page if they want to edit a considerable amount of the article. RyguyMN 18:17, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
The IP user has been blocked, so that should end the revert wars. RyguyMN 18:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Good find on the articles, my friend! It sounds like he's been in a whole heap of trouble. Everything from setting a neighbor's tractor on fire, to scaring a US Postal worker to getting kicked out of a country club. I guess Tim is still at his house in Florida cause he was trying to sneak over the fence away from reporters and was caught. This is one strange dude. You would think these NBA refs would go through some kind of psychological screening before being allowed into the league. I know the NFL does this with their new hires. RyguyMN 06:25, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

I believe this test that the NFL administers is 3 to 4 hours and it's just to ensure the official is of high moral standard and isn't going to pulling the kind of stuff that Mr. Donaghy has been doing. RyguyMN 06:39, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Here's an interesting link: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/2007/07/23/2007-07-23_nba_had_eye_on_ref.html Why didn't the NBA let this kind of monkey business continue?

Press conference with Commissioner Stern, Tuesday at 11 AM ET - http://www.nba.com RyguyMN 03:23, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Here's a New York Times story saying that biography information on Donaghy's college athletic career may be false: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/26/sports/basketball/26referee.html?_r=1&em&ex=1185681600&en=240a01a17c63ae67&ei=5087%0A&oref=slogin. Makes you wonder how much information at the referee's site is factual information since its provided by referees. RyguyMN 18:27, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

I feel the same way as you do about the whole situation. It will be remembered years to come, but it will not be the downfall of the league. If there are multiple referees or players involved, then it becomes a whole different issue. I really hope they don't go with the NFL challenge system in the NBA because a lot of the calls made are judgement calls. You start to get into a sticky area where you have to determine "yes, it's a foul in the rulebook, but the infraction had no impact on the play and no advantage was gained". I've done some intramural basketball officiating, and its a tough sport to call. One of the things you have to look for is if there was an advantage gained when a foul is committed. A replay system like this would only hurt the league. Earl Strom would be turning in his grave. It's not like baseball where you have safe or out or in football if a player is in-bounds or not. RyguyMN 00:20, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks 4 Thanks

Aw thankyou, it's always nice to get some appreciation. If you wanna join the fight against vandals I help. Who is this guy:Boogerpoo then? I presume he's got it in for you, as he's only vandalised your articles. Ryan4314 06:26, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

That's cool, although I probably should point out, I'm not actually IN any "Counter Vandalism" projects, I just use 2 anti-vandal tools a friend recommended to me, and when I'm bored do a bit of patrolling. cheers for the thanks again mate, I'll put ur articles on my watchlist. Ryan4314 06:34, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Well that's what confused me at first, I didn't know what having "Tools" meant. But I was pleasently surprised, easy to install one tool adds some more tabs up the top of your screen (just like the "discussion" and "edit the page" ones and right next to them), their used for warning vandals, reporting them for blocking, requesting page protection and speedy deletes. The second tool adds 5 more options under your search bar on the left, which basically allow you watch a live feed of recent changes. So when used together you can revert vandalism and report the vandal in under a minute easy! in fact a guy I help block tonight, had only created his "vandal only" account 10 minutes prior!!! Ryan4314 06:44, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Ha ha ok, well first off do u have firefox? Ryan4314 06:51, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok well I think Twinkle (That's the warning tool) might be having problems in internet explorer but I'm not sure now. Well try it anyway, and follow the installation instructions. But basically that involves you following a link which will lead you to your "monobook" and copy n pasting some text into it, refreshing the page and your new tabs will be there! Also here's a description of the warnings say: Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace (you'll understand why this will be useful after you've tried it). So you try and install now, while I'll be writing about the 2nd tool. Ryan4314 07:00, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
The 2nd tool is Anti-Vandal tool, it allows you to view live feed of recent changes, in 4 forms. These forms include a live feed of your watchlist, a live feed of all recent changes made by unregistered IP users, a live feed off ALL recent changes made, and most importantly a live feed of all recent changes that involve words used by vandals (This is the mode I think is best to use). You install just like you did Twinkle, although AVT does have some flaws and it will take a bit of time b4 you find ur optimum settings, But you can always ask me or this guy: J-stan for explanations of articles.
P.S there is another form, some sort of spell checker I've never used. Ryan4314 07:11, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok mate, but you wont have to download them, it's all works inside wiki, it just involves copy and pasting some text. Ryan4314 07:16, 3 August 2007 (UTC)
Cool I'm glad u like it, as we now have one more soldier in the fight against vandalism. Although I'm gutted Twinkle is not working for you, it feels so good to rollback a vandals changes and then click one tab to give him a pre-written warning!
Also I don't know if you know yet, there's is a glitch with AVT's rollback button. It doesn't work for me but apparently ticking the "Use non-admin rollback" in the filter options will fix it, it's ok tho as I use Twinkle's rollback function. ANy questions, just let me know mate. Ryan4314 15:27, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Mendy Rudolph

Hey FamicomJL! While letting the Donaghy situation play itself out, I decided to cleanup the Mendy Rudolph bio. Since there are ties to Donaghy in regards to gambling, I wanted to see if there were any similarities. Everything is well sourced and may be GAC-ready. Would you mind looking it over and sharing your two cents? Take care. RyguyMN 04:58, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the GAC-ready feedback! I was waiting to see what people thought about it. I'll put it up for nomination and see what happens. Wish there was more information about his WGN job, but maybe I'll try to integrate this somewhere else within the article. RyguyMN 01:43, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the congrats! I probably wouldn't have nominated it until you mentioned it was GAC-worthy, so thank you! Take care. RyguyMN 01:23, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:128kquestion.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:128kquestion.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Jay32183 02:14, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:128kquestion.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:128kquestion.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Just curious here (if there's some nuance I'm missing) but wouldn't {{db-attack}} be more accurate? Forgive the question from a bit of a speedy deletion-noob. Zelse81 06:49, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Talkheader

Re: {{talkheader}}, as the documentation for the template says (emphasis not added)

This template should be used only when needed. Do not add this template to every talk page.

It's thought that adding it to every talk pages loses its effect, which is why I removed it from Talk:Family Viewing Hour. I would only tend to add it where people had started to use the page as a forum about the subject rather than where to discuss the article. Regards, SeveroTC 22:51, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Re:Mendy CBS Image

How's it going? Yeah, it's been a while! I got the Mendy image from a user who posted some of the 1976 NBA Finals game on Youtube. I then did some cropping of the screen capture.

BTW, Tim Donaghy's wife is filing for divorce. Just came across the news now and added it to Tim's bio. RyguyMN 21:03, 8 September 2007 (UTC)

Please do not categorize it as detective fiction. This category is for the pages relevant to the genre as a whole (subgenres, etc). All particular instances (novels, stories, cartoons, anime, etc) are better categorized according to their media, thus Case Closed is in Category:Mystery anime and manga. Otherwise the category becomes unmanageable and useless. Thank you. Henry Merrivale 02:47, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Paul Lynde

i grant you that the two websites you cite declare two emmy wins for lynde, however, both appear to be kinda fan-krufty, and i question their reliability. after searching the databases of the emmys and the envelope please both show nominations, but neither has any record of any wins. ditto for imdb and amg. if he did indeed, win something, one should think that the emmy site would reflect that, and i'm inclined to regard that site as final arbiter. what say you? --emerson7 | Talk 04:11, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Daytime Wheel of Fortune

There are some people out there who DO "give a hoot". Since you're not one of them, don't waste your time removing those facts.

"More sources" banner to Jeopardy!

Hi FamicomJL,

I noticed you added a "More sources" banner to the Jeopardy! article. It is customary, when adding Wikipedia maintenance templates to articles, to make one's specific concerns known on the talk page. It would be even more helpful if you were to add {{fact}} tags wherever within the article you see some nontrivial information presented as unsourced or improperly sourced. Banners added without discussion usually don't result in motivating improvement of articles and end up being deleted with no action taken on them. Thanks, Robert K S 06:02, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Mendy a FAC?

It's too bad he didn't have a book published, then it would easily be FA! :) The next best thing would nominate it as an A-class article. It should be able to pass...don't you think? RyguyMN 05:01, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Hey! Since the New York Times archives are free now, this article should help expand the Wiki bio on Rudolph! :) RyguyMN 23:46, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Pyramid Game Show

Hey, Famicom. Just curious, why did you say I stole that image of the $25,000 Pyramid title card? I cited my source just as I have cited my sources with the other images I have uploaded, didn't I? How was that thievery? I don't understand, and I want to understand so I don't make the same mistake again. I'm still learning what does and does not fly on Wikipedia.

GSN edits

Thanks for your note. I left a note on the user page of the editor who removed the Dark Period section. I asked him to discuss such a major removal on the talk page. Thanks again. Casey Abell 15:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
