A tag has been placed on 'Jon Mychal', requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. W.marsh 19:55, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jon Mychal[edit]

Hi Adam,

I appreciate you outlining these things for me: I'm literally brand new here today, and still learning my way around. I'm helping Jon Mychal manage his internet presence, and it's abundantly clear that there are literally thousands of artists -- some completely obscure -- who can be found within these pages. My aim is to bring Jon's resume and body of work to the fore, so that people can learn about him as a person and as a creative contributor to contemporary ideas, music, literature, etc. I feel that the aforementioned all more than qualify as notable, and simply wish to construct a page here for him.

Indeed, the article in question was copied and pasted: 'The Daily Vault' gave permission for that article to be used nearly two years ago when jonmychal.com was first introduced -- the article can be found in the 'Archives' section of the site. To be fair and law-abiding, I have resubmitted my request to The Daily Vault and will look forward to hearing back from them shortly.

In the meanwhile, perhaps you can advise on my next steps, as having my efforts deleted is discouraging.

Thank you,

George Garner

George, thanks for messaging me on my talk page - I will try and answer you questions and help you as much as I can. Believe me, I know how daunting this place can be at first.
First is first, you should look at WP:5P for the Five Pillars Of Wikipedia - as it says there, the whole of Wikipedia can be summed up in those five statements. As you will see, the third pillar is that Wikipedia is free, and for specifics on that policy you should see WP:C for all the policy regarding copywrite. It is not good enough for you to just copy and paste content from other websites, what you need to do is write your own material and then cite or reference where that information had come from (see WP:CITE for the policy on citing sources).
However, I think that the largest problem that you will have is that wikipedia has a neutral point of view, and any information which could be viewed as having a non-NPOV can, and is, removed - see WP:NPOV. This policy goes hand in hand with WP:COI, the conflict of interest policy. So as you are helping Jon Mychal manage his internet presence (another word for advertising, I'm sure you'll agree) then according to WP:COI you should

avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);

and you must always:

  1. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, attribution, and autobiography.
As you can see, this conflict of interest means that you creating this article puts the article in hot water from the word go. The best advice I can give you is to read the policy I have linked to above, and then go to User:Enki69/Jon Mychal and write a page there. That page in in your user space and while it is not "yours", you should be able to write something and review it - comparing it to the policy. It may even be a good idea that, after a few drafts and when you feel that it is inline with policy, you should ask at the WP:VP (village pump) policy section if the article you have written is suitably COI free and with a NPOV (remembering to link to the page). If you get a positive reaction, then you can safely move the content to the mainspace (note that the article should be Jon Mychal - not 'Jon Mychal'). If the peer review there is that you are still having POV problems, I'm sure specific advice will be offered.
Finally, sorry for the essay, as far as being a beginner goes - this and this are great starting points for learning how to link, reference, include picture... everything really.
Just stick to the Five Pillars and you should be fine. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia - not a platform to launch an artist and definitely not part of someone's internet presence. (In fact - WP:NOT will also be useful to you, so you know what Wikipedia is not, as will WP:SPAM which has an excellent section on how not to be a spammer by accident)
Hope this helps & don't get disheartened. Feel free to contact me anytime through my talk page. Good luck! ...adam... (talkcontributions) 22:09, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
