Disambiguation link notification for January 21[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pine Residence, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Henri Gouraud and Ottoman (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Mseilha fort[edit]

Hi Eli, the info comes from the panels that are scattered throughout the site and placed after the renovation undertaken a few years ago. I believe they can be credited to the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture. I remember reading the AUB scholars had a hand in it but I can't find a confirmation of that. I also have several nice high rez pictures of the site, but I don't know how to add a gallery to the article. Also, the panels refer to the site as Mussaylha not Mseilha, though I'm not sure how to modify that Artephius (talk) 22:57, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm Lebanese but I live in the US. I visited the fort two years ago. It's fairly impressive in terms of its location and quite uncommon. I had always been told its a crusader castle (the wiki article said so previously too) so I was surprised to learn it was not. Artephius (talk) 23:20, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

dabouni[edit]

Marhaba Elie, this is Abdullah (aka الدبوني) it was a pleasure meeting you last weekend and hope we can stay in touch. Beyrouth is on my "to visit" list so it is not unlikely that we may meet again, and do not hesitate to contact me if you come around my ends.

Also, about writing in Arabic, of course it is up to you if you want to contribute or not, but there is a bit of barrier, at first, in writing in Arabic. When I saw you editing in English, I could see that you were very quick and knew lots of shortcuts, because you are use to it. Where as when you move into the Arabic version, you may end up feeling like a noob, which can be frustrating. Anyway my point is, after a short period, you will find a joy in writing in Arabic, it is hard to explain why, but thats my experience anyway. Either way, hope we can stay in touch.--Aa2-2004 (talk) 11:54, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Bedson[edit]

I realise that he as a hard worker on articles to do with Lebanon, but he was not blocked by pro-Christian and anti-Lebanese editors, and his sock puppetry (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Paul Bedson/Archive is completely unacceptable, as is his threat to continue to create socks unless he is unblocked. Please understand that no editor may edit on behalf of a banned or blocked editor (and he's both) or ask them to editor for them. Here is a link to the discussion about his behavior: Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Paul Bedson. Dougweller (talk) 11:43, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have not suggested, implied or even thought about editing for Paul and I do not endorse his use of sockpuppets either. Paul's contributions and knowledge in the area of middle eastern archaeology are not matched by any current editor's. The problem with Paul is that he was too passionate and he spent a lot of time and effort trying to prove his _often unacceptable_ POV. I found the judgement over Paul very swift and hasty, some people are hard to convince and I think he should've been given more room to prove his good will.
Doug, i believe in second chances, and I wholeheartedly believe in people's good will and I just hoped that Paul's passion could've been channeled. People grow tired from bickering eventually and I think Paul would've complied... with some patience from fellow editors. I have noticed that Paul was using original research a long time ago, and I stopped following what was happening here because i got busy so please excuse me for jumping in in defense of Paul.
I hope none of the parties involved in edit warring with Paul take my empathy for him as a personal offence; i know firsthand how hard it is to deal with people trying to push their POVs.Eli+ 12:12, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for this good reply and I didn't think you'd be editing on his behalf - I post like that as I don't want anyone ever blocked for not understanding something that they would have avoided if they understood it. Paul did have a number of chances - a lot of us worked with him over a considerable period of time. And his sock puppetry the first time he was blocked for sock puppetry has no excuse, let alone his continued sock puppetry and statement that he will continue to sock puppet unless unblocked. Still, YMMV which is fine. Again, thanks for this response. Dougweller (talk) 12:44, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's OK fella :) Thank YOU for taking the time and explaining what has been happening while I was away. It's always nice to communicate around here. Makes it feel more human :S -Eli+ 15:38, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm so pleased to see that we have an article on this. I'd like to do some copyediting on it, so if I have questions I'll leave them on the talk page. Cynwolfe (talk) 16:34, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I haven't gotten to this yet. An article to which I'm a main contributor is a current GA nom, and I don't think it's ready, so I've been trying to get it in order before the review begins. And then I keep getting distracted by stuff that turns up as I'm looking at the source for it. Best, Cynwolfe (talk) 14:10, 27 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
its fine :) I got hold of copies of collinet's work, i will be adding to the article when i have time. Good luck with your GA review, im sure your article will pass. Eli+ 05:11, 28 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Youssef Aftimus and Family.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. You wrote that this was published in Beirut in 1920, but you didn't provide any information on how to verify this. Could you add that information? If it was first published in the indicated book from 1999, then the copyright expires in the United States on 1 January 2048 (or 70 years after the death of the photographer if that is later and the photographer is identified) per Commons:COM:HIRTLE. --Stefan2 (talk) 07:58, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    • Hello and thank you for your eye-opening message. The image is taken from a belle epoque postcard. It was published at least 90 years ago. I would have loved to take fresh pics to show the current state of the expanded mansion but it is impossible to do so since it has become the French embassy and taking images is not allowed for security reasons. I've begun the GA review for Law School of Beirut; more detailed comments will follow soon (hopefully tomorrow), but for now I've noted a few initial concerns if you're interested in getting started. Thanks for your work on this one! I'm looking forward to reviewing it in more detail. -- Khazar2 (talk) 02:19, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Marhaba. As a token greeting to you for thanking me on my work on adding many items on Cedar, I have now developed further another page you had established: Harutyun (given name). I have also established as further acknowledgement to your work Cedres, which is reminiscent of Cedar in French. Bon courage werldwayd (talk) 12:05, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am a Lebanese Armenian Canadian presently residing in Montreal... I dedicate most of my free time to Wikipedia... and feel happy (blessed) when I add useful information... that's about it. Here a dedication to you from a Lebanese German artist I like very much from Zahle actually called Fady Maalouf in "Blessed" [1]. Or check "Into the Light" [2], "Show Me Your Love" [3], "Amazed" [4], "Anytime" [5], "Neyla" [6] In Lebanon he started as Alex in "Ya leil" [7] Plus of course I forward to you the signature song that expresses my personal outlook on life. It is from Games Maker Choir in "I Wish For You The World" [8] and that I usually dedicate to all those who visit my user page -- Enjoy. werldwayd (talk) 12:54, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As a final greeting to you, I realized Rony Seikaly, the most famous Lebanese-American basketball player had no page in Arabic Wikipedia. I had attended him playing in Beirut with the Lebanese national side during the time of Elie Mechantaf, Fady el Khatib and Ghazy Boustani. But until today, no article on him... I have added that today. See [9] Here are some of his DJing tracks: "Fly Away" featuring the wonderful Craig David [10], "The World Is Beautiful" [11], "Thanks for Everything" [12] and a reportage about him by the New York Times [13] Regards werldwayd (talk) 16:46, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You never knew Fady Maalouf... And Seikaly being into music... LOL Now that's proof Wikipedia does fabulous job in surprising people. The music section of Rony Seikaly in English (which I developed entirely from scratch) is an eye opener. To add more basketball content to Arabic Wikipedia, immediately after Seikaly, I added a page for the player Alaa Abdelnabi, an Egyptian American player that fascinated me in Duke and went on to play in Portland Trail Blazers and Celtics, amongst others. See [14] Here's some brief but great highlights of him [15] - werldwayd (talk) 21:33, 22 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Elie, thanks for the additional information you have added. about your question : no other town with the same name in lebanon. also you have said that the article was made by someone who is not lebanese : what do you mean ,someone created from outside lebanon connection or realy someone not a lebanese & can I get the name??? anyway after reading your reply & proposal of modification ,I checked the issue with the mayor & other responsible in my town & agree about your suggesting to call it : bmahray & refer to the availability of the name in other articles. but problem still have some other articles which contain the name : bmohray which also should be corrected. also i will send an inquiry to the : shoufbiospherreserve to see if the name can be corrected also. later on when we have the article completed of correction I need to add pictures ,same available in the link you have added: http://www.shoufcedar.org/showinfo.asp?id=28 thank you again for your assistant in this issue. Raymond Bou malham

FA congratulations[edit]

Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Law school of Beirut to FA status recently. If you would like to see this (or any other FA you may have helped to write) appear as "Today's featured article" soon, please nominate it at the requests page; if you'd like to see an FA on a particular date in the next year or so, please add it to the "pending" list. In the absence of a request, the article may end up being picked at any time (although with 1,324 articles in Category:Featured articles that have not appeared on the main page at present, there's no telling how long – or short! – the wait might be). If you'd got any TFA-related questions or problems, please let me know. It's lovely to see a different type of article come through FAC - well done. BencherliteTalk 11:32, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about the lack of an image of the law school - TFAs quite often run without images, and in fact I think File:Meister von San Vitale in Ravenna.jpg (Justinian) could work quite well. See what you think. BencherliteTalk 12:00, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations from me as well. This article has come a very long way. It's great to see such august founts of scholarship represented so well in this modern fount of scholarship! – Quadell (talk) 15:55, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Main Page appearance: Law school of Beirut[edit]

This is a note to let the main editors of Law school of Beirut know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on December 6, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/December 6, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The Emperor Justinian

The law school of Beirut was a center for the study of Roman law in classical antiquity located in Beirut. It flourished under the patronage of the Roman emperors and functioned as the Roman Empire's preeminent center of jurisprudence until its destruction in 551 CE. The earliest written mention of the school dates to 239 CE, when its reputation had already been established. The school attracted young, affluent Roman citizens, and its professors made major contributions to the Codex of Justinian. The school achieved such wide recognition throughout the Empire that Beirut was known as the "Mother of Laws". Beirut was one of the few schools allowed to continue teaching jurisprudence when Byzantine emperor Justinian I (pictured) shut down other provincial law schools. The school's facilities were destroyed in the aftermath of a massive earthquake that hit the Phoenician coastline. It was moved to Sidon but did not survive the Arab conquest of 635 CE. Ancient texts attest that the school was located next to the ancient Anastasis church, vestiges of which lie beneath the Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Beirut's historic center.
