Hello[edit]

Warning Hello you seem to be a busy body! Please leave me alone! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.9.67.107 (talkcontribs) 18:37, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Sorry, as long as you continue to vandalize user pages, I cannot leave you alone. However, you are welcome to read Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers and Wikipedia:Five pillars if you are interested in contributing constructively to our encyclopedia. Thanks for your message! Thankyou note[edit]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my talk page. Gershwinrb 21:50, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting the vandalism on my user page. It seems Gershwinrb and I were vandalized by the same person. This person apparently created a vanity article which I deleted months ago. But he wants it back now and doesn't know how to send a message to users. Academic Challenger 23:21, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Augusta of Saxe-Gotha[edit]

Sorry, I didn't know. I just thought it was a better title for it. Would you mind changing the title? The princess part doesn't really need to be there.

May the Force be with you.[edit]

Dear EWS23/Archive 5,

Thanks for voting on my RFA! I appreciate your faith in me, and was overwhelmed by the positive response to my RFA; for it shows that at least I'm doing something right. :) I've started working to improve myself already, and I hope that next time, things run better, and maybe, just maybe, one day we can bask on the shores of Admintopia together. Thanks and cheers, _-M o P-_ 21:50, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redwall[edit]

By all means be my guest, the section does need a lot of work, and I don't really have time to do a proper job, so go for it. Have fun, if you need any help, let me know--Jackyd101 02:38, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is much better, it is well laid out, and actually explains to the uniniated what Redwall is. There are parts which do need further expanision (and I think the criticism section may still be too long), but its a good start.--Jackyd101 07:19, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Extreme Environments[edit]

Eric,

It's me again. I know I've been asking a lot of stuff from you, but what other extreme environments do you know of, other than: deep sea, volcanoes, (anything to do with deep sea-sea vents etc.), caves, polar ice caps, space and desserts. Also, do you know much about the Ben Franklin (submersible)? It was the one where six men had to go into the Gulf Stream for thirty days. --Abbopa 03:16, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

More Redwall[edit]

Hi EW, I've noticed that you seem quite knowledgeable on the Redwall series, and I'd like to invite you to participate on the actual Redwall wiki resource, http://redwall.wikia.com We are always in need of more editors. You don't need to respond to this message. --LordTBT 09:23, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks[edit]

Thanks for changing my talk page. I didn't even realize that when I stole it from Almac. Just one quick question though: How'd you come across my user page? schyler 12:42, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Extreme Environments and Submarines[edit]

Eric,

Thanks for all your help again... very helpful. I've especially chose to study deep sea, as an extreme environment. I know of most deep sea fish (that are identified-thanks) and I now know about the Ben Franklin. There's some cool diving geer, one of which being the Newt suit. It's really quite cool. Ever heard of it?Abbopa 21:32, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3[edit]

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

Despite my slowness in getting back to you I did actually act on that report pretty quickly... I don't know if you noticed but as I suspected something fishy I posted on WP:ANI for confirmation, and the account (yes it's a registered user, not an IP) has been blocked indefinitely for impersonating Jimbo's IP address. And yes the report was to the right place- it was "complicated, deceptive vandalism". The main problem with that page is getting enough admins to watch it/do something about things there, hence the need to push some things to ANI to get some attention. The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
Thanks for your comments and inspiration on Wikipedia talk:Esperanza. I think you've given a very succinct explanation of what Esperanza should be about, even during this difficult time. It might even help me change my mind and come back, despite recent turmoil. Elkman - (talk) 16:47, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply...[edit]

Hi Eric, sorry I couldn't think of a better subject/headline... oh well. Yes, my studies are going well, thanks again for the pages about the Newt suit. I saw the second page already, but that's okay. :0) Abbopa 01:10, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't it time...[edit]

...that you were on WP:RFA? I'm not sure how your admin coaching is getting on as your AC page says it's taking place on IRC, but I keep on thinking the above question. If you would like I could take a proper look at your contributions to double check you are ready and then give you a nomination? Or would you rather wait for your admin coaches to do the work? (I certainly don't mind if you'd rather they did it, but on the other hand if you think you are ready I'd be delighted to nominate you!) Petros471 19:58, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, of course I understand you wanting to talk with your coaches first (if I was your coach, I'd probably want to be asked :-) I'll take a good look though, and let you know if there is anything that seems missing. Cheers, Petros471 20:16, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone back to the start of 2006 and I'm finding it extremely difficult to find a single contribution that could be considered bad. The worst I've found so far is the edit summary "revert newbie test", as it uses the word 'newbie' (some people may find that slightly offensive). I stress, that is not a horrendous thing by any stretch of the imagination- and I'm sure you were only using that summary to avoid using the word 'vandalism' to avoid BITE in the first place!
What I've found good so far: Always civil, always assuming good faith, great use of edit summaries, enough edits to satisfy 'those who count', enough distribution of edits to satisfy the same, good familiarity with policy and process, good understanding of consensus, erm do you want me to go on or is this embarrassing you ;)
Things that might possibly be brought up in an RfA (I don't actually think you'll fail on any of these but it'd be nice to know the answers): Have you done much reporting of vandalism (e.g. to WP:AIV) to 'prove' that you would use the block button? Have you made many significant article edits in terms of expansion or creation? Personally, if you've read my RfA, or some of the ones I've contributed to, you would know that I don't believe this one to be vital to becoming an admin. However some people do oppose based on this, although not enough to make an RfA fail (in my case at least). Petros471 21:02, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't mind Petros getting the honors, and I don't see anything that makes me say no, so go ahead. :) Titoxd(?!? - help us) 22:38, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I've talked to Titoxd and he seems to agree that I'm ready for an RfA. [1] He said that since you requested the nom, you get it. So, as long as you are still willing, I would be honored if you would nominate me when you have the time to write one up. Thanks for all your help and support, and let me know if you have any more questions or comments. EWS23 | (Leave me a message!) 02:46, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great :) I'll be working on your nomination at User:Petros471/EWS23 RFA, feel free to work on your answers to the standard questions there. Once we've finished working on the draft one of us can move it to the official Wikipedia RFA namespace and off it goes :) As I'm sure you realise, my nomination is no guarantee of success. Whilst obviously I think you're ready (and I'm sure plenty of others will as well), you never know what everyone will think! Petros471 08:52, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Best wish for your adminship. In response to what you just said "Hopefully I'll continue to run into you around the project", there is one thing that I would like to suggest you to do. While I am not an admin here, I do watch Special:Contributions/newbies for images without source or copyright info and I have tagged many of them. Since you are now an admin, you have the power to delete articles, images, and the like, so problem images should be deleted according to policies. I thought it was a small, pleasant place to live. When I was there in the late 1990's, the interns were a dynamic bunch and a number of published and in-house papers were produced. Just to drop by here- yes it's certainly experience that helps with knowing what is 'ANI worthy' or not. Some of my 'newcomer admin' posts there have just been plain ignored- which I've taken to mean 'fine, no comment'. I also sometimes ask people on IRC if I'm considering making a block. Like asking "do you think a block of x time is appropriate for y offence?". Petros471 08:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When I'm on IRC I'm usually in the CVU vandalism channel. Evenings (1630-2100 UTC sort of time). However, I haven’t been on much recently, as I'm usually there either when on vandal patrol or working on RFI (two things I haven't done much of recently while I've had all my work to do, speaking of which I'd better get back to...). A small gift.[edit]

For being a model example of a kind wikipedian, it is my duty, nay, honor, to award you this Barnstar. :) -- Banes 12:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators[edit]

Wow! I didn't know that you are an administrator! Also, yes, it might be a great idea to find the right administrator, because I contacted one, and that administrator didn't reply back to me. Abbopa 18:41, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spicy[edit]

Name any random spicy food. I'll tell you why later. Abbopa 20:55, 27 May 2006 (UTC) :0)[reply]

Renovation complete[edit]

I hope you like the blue theme. :) Do you want to have it implemented on your talk page as well? If you wish to have anything changed, don't hesitate to drop me a line! Cheers, Sango123 (e) 22:31, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The problem with defining specific numbers with a guide such as this (particularly where not absolutely clear-cut) is that it becomes self-reinforcing. New people read the guide, interpret this as the way they should vote, and thus a criterion which wasn't necessarily a given before becomes such. This was behind much of the battle that followed the creation of that guide, and I've got some of the same concerns about raising bars now. Rebecca 07:41, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No objection to that. :) Rebecca 08:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...[edit]

I thought your name was familiar...congrats on becoming an admin - I must have missed it! --HappyCamper 19:55, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gumbo[edit]

Gumbo. Never heard of that, but it sounds pretty interesting. I don't really like spicy food myself, but my nephew is doing a spicy food experiment. Abbopa 02:10, 30 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello EWS23, fellow election staffer. Thank you for your full support and gracious comment at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. I look forward to working with you in the future.
