Hec Ed

Thanks for the message. You're absolutely right...I messed up and got the order backwards. But I do think it's correct to have things under their official names...I doubt Bank of America will take its name off Hec Ed anytime soon (I think, by the way, most people know it as "Hec Ed," not "Hec Edmundson Pavilion")...and it's not too big a deal for us to move it again should the need ever arise.... Yeah, you're right about "Hec Ed." I guess it's fine to leave it in the official form; it seems a little long, but the official titles of almost everything nowadays are excessively long. That's no problem; better be safe than sorry! For sockpuppets such as Willy on Wheels vandals and the ...is Communism vandals, there's no problem with listing them at WP:AIV. With any other sockpuppet used for vandalism it is also fine to list at WP:AIV. However, for non-vandalism sockpuppets, I'm not sure where to go, but WP:AIV is probably the wrong place in the less serious cases. If you come across a suspected non-vandalism sock, I would suggest the administrators noticeboard. FireFox 17:56, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the messsage. I realize now that I should have put edit summaries on the alterations I made to the NBA Development League team pages. It was late at night and I was tired when I was doing it, so I just didn't think about it. I added the team affiliations to each team's page that night, which wasn't reflected in a summary. Hi Schyler! Thanks for your message. I wouldn't suggest making a page for your band, as middle school bands generally aren't notable enough for their own encyclopedia page. For that matter, most high school bands aren't notable either. In both cases, the band would likely only qualify for a sentence or section on the page for their school. However, most middle and high schools don't have their own Wikipedia page either! You'll notice that all of the schools/bands that I was a part of are all red-links (Deerpark Middle School, Deerpark Middle School band, McNeil High School, McNeil High School Maverick marching band). However, you're welcome to include as much information about yourself, your band, your band director, etc. on your user page, or on your own personal web page or blog.

Yes, you can make User:Schyler/Christine Belle! Just click on the red link and copy the page into that. This is one of the easiest ways to make sub-pages to your user page should you need it in the future. Generally, Wikipedia is not web server space for your own personal stuff (see WP:NOT), but considering this is directly Wikipedia related, I don't think anyone would have a problem with it (as long as you don't make it a habit). On a side note, I think you have reason to be proud of the page you made. Most pages we delete as non-notable or under WP:VANITY are fairly underdeveloped. Your page has the tone and look of a Wikipedia page. If you can take that intuition and editing skill and apply it, I'm sure you'll continue to make a good contributor! Experimenting?

I fixed the article, Franco American is no longer owned by Campbell Soup. You see, Wikipedia is notorious for having bad information. I noticed some of it so I fixed it. Just out of curiosity, do you use that arogant, condescending tone with everyone? Now I'm going to "experiment" some more and undo your revert. If you have proof, however, that Franco American is still owned by Campbell Soup then by all means, revert it again, but as far as I can tell you're the one mindlessly "experimenting" with said page. Thanks for understanding!

I apologize for the misunderstanding. After doing some searching, I have found that Campbell no longer uses the "Franco American" logo (however, as far as I can tell, they still own the brand name, should they choose to use it in the future). The reason I reverted your edit is because we often have a problem at Wikipedia of people removing information for no good reason; when I saw that you removed the information without providing an edit summary explaining the edit, I had no way of knowing why the information was removed. As for my "condenscending tone", I apologize for that as well. On your talk page I simply used the standard message for people who make tests at Wikipedia which you can see at Template:Test. Chick Bowen was from my hometown, but died long before I was born. At one point I looked up all the major league players who were both born and died in New Haven; there are only a handful. Participant alert regarding Wikiproject on Advertising

The Wikiproject No Ads, created as a backlash against the Answers.com deal, has served an important function in providing a space for users to express their disagreement with the Foundation proposal. While the current controversies about userboxes raise questions about political and social advocacy on Wikipedia, there should be greater flexibility regarding advocacy about Wikipedia in the Wikipedia namespace. Reported and linked by Slashdot and other press sources as a unique and spontaneous occurence in Wikipedia history, it has apparently had some impact as, despite being scheduled to begin in January, not a peep has been heard about the trial and proposed sponsored link since the deal's controversial announcement months ago. Currently, however, there is an attempt to delete the project or move it off Wikipedia altogether. Since the Foundation has provided no additional information and has not attempted to answer the specific questions that participants in the project raised, it is unclear if the Answers.com deal has been abandoned or simply delayed. Adams MA

Yes, it is in a sense honourary I suppose. Oxbridge differ from all other UK universities in that all students (who initially graduate with a BA) are awarded an MA a certain number of years after graduation. There are no further academic requirements, and indeed as far as I'm aware they need not have any further contact with their college or the university. I think (although I'm not 100% certain) that Cambridge only offer M.Phil courses as taught Master's, and thus I assume that Adams' didn't actually complete any further study (note that it IS common to acquire an MA through a further 1 or 2 year course at all other English Universities, and in some Scottish unis all undergraduates study for an MA from the start, over four years). It's a bit misleading (although I suppose technically not incorrect) to say that he gained an MA, as all Oxbridge alumni or alumna are eligible to receive the additional honourific automatically. I should point out that I'm not an expert in either Adams or the intricacies of Oxbridge matriculation requirements, so it is possible that I'm wrong, but that's my understanding of the situation. Hi again- whilst I think we are both 100% correct, that link doesn't actually prove it. Cambridge has a collegiate system, consisting of a large number (dozens) of individual, semi-autonomous colleges (in the British academic sense). It is theoretically possible that he took his BA at St. John's and then switched to another college (at the same university) for any further degrees. HELP!

I want to remove my organization because I am inept at knowing how to function within your system and don't have time to learn. Someone keeps editing our entry to say that the National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centers in a non-profit anti-circumcision organization. That is NOT true! If a circumcision is medically necessary, after all alternative, less invasive therapy has been tried and failed, OR, if an adult male, who has been truly informed, wants to be circumcised, our organization supports the need or the right for these. We do, however, want to inform parents that routine infant circumcision is not recommended by any national or international medical association in the world and that there are risk and life-long consequences because of circumcision. This is not anti-circumcision, and our organization should not be labelled as such.

So, because, when I edit our blurb to correct this, it continues to be changed back, I want to be removed from your encyclopedia. Please help me do that.

Regarding your change on the 2006 Winter Olympics page

Just a friendly inquiry -- I'm puzzled as to why you and others are changing the article to read '2006 Winter Olympic Games' as opposed to 'XX Winter Olympic Games', which is the formal name for the event; if you look at the 2002 Winter Olympics article, or the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics article, they all follow the same format and refer to them as the XIX or XXI Winter Olympic Games on first mention in boldface. For consistency, the current article really ought to read as such, and there are countless other examples where the recommended Wikipedia format is altered for accuracy's sake. -- Xwu 18:37, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
