Vandalism: Not[edit]

I do not see where in the vandalism policy is an explicit condemnation of removal of talk page content. The discussion removed is no longer an issue. It makes little sense to retain discussions which have been settled. --William R. Buckley 22:57, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to Vandalism[edit]

The only vandal is you and a ustasha one, nothing more, nothing else, the above mentioned should remain here as prouod contributors, which by the way are not SOCKETPUPPETS, like you are... In your own little world you think you know you are correct like so many loosers who should not be wikipedians.

Sockpuppets[edit]

Greetings! Sorry not to get to your request earlier; I see you've contacted others. I don't have the ability to use checkuser to look for socks; if you want help with this you can contact the arbitrators who do (User:Kelly Martin, User:Fred Bauder, User:Jayjg, User:Raul654, User:The Epopt, or User:David Gerard) with requests. Hope this helps, Mindspillage (spill yours?) 03:11, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Wikipedia is about "live and let live". If you don't like this project - leave it. If everybody leaves it - close it. If somebody wants to contribute to it, why closing it?

I live by that rule - "live and let live", and when first confronted with idea of closing some wikipedia, I was strongly against it. But as always in life, picture is never so simple as it can seem at the first glance. Some wikipedias were closed due to inactivity or make-believe languages, and not so recently I even saw idea to close all small wikipedias under 1.000 articles, or under 10 edits per day.

And when you think of it, there is something to it, not enough to really close 100 wikipedias, but some rationale exists that wikipedia have to earn it's existence (as something is needed to open a wikipedia, something is also needed to keep it alive).

Lets try listing the reasons:

- wikipedia have to have users who are contributing (if there is nobody who want to write the articles in ....., what use anybody would have with wikipedia of zero or one article?)

- users are not enough, for example there could be users who would like to have american english wikipedia, british english wikipedia, australian english wikipedia; or kajkavian wikipedia, čakavian wikipedia and štokavian wikipedia, why not cakavian wikipedia either? -> If I recall it correctly, forking is not allowed, and that is the reason why there is no american and british english wikipedia.

- can I recall some more reason? No, I think not, that's quite enough. If there is some real language (or even makebelieve), it can have wikipedia. There is no klingon wikipedia, but there is both esperanto and ido wikipedia, even there is no formal institution which uses that languages in corespondence with other institutions. So needed is real language (language with grammar and vocabulary) which is not a fork of some other language, and users willing to write articles.

Well, wikipedia on whose page you wrote your comment does not fulfill these reasons: - language is real (it has also two varieties, you can choose which you prefer), but there is no users willing to write articles, and they are forking (verbatim copy-pasting articles from three different wikipedias on their pages). Remove copy-pasted articles, remove users who registered only with intent to close this joke, and you will get 136 or 137 articles and 2 or 3 users.

Are 2 or 3 users of inexistent language enough to keep some wikipedia?

As I wrote above, at first I thought lets keep it, but after I heard some arguments, and when I made analysis of my own, I got to my conclusion. What's yours? SpeedyGonsales 00:03, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My conclusion is: if anbody whishes to write encyclopaedia in Morse code, let them write in Morse code. If somebody want's to close a wikipedia for chauvinist reasons I'll exercise my democratic right to vote against closing that wikipedia. Now, I'm not calling all of the people who voted "yes" chauvinists (not even majority). But, some of them are. And that's why I voted "no". Let the guys play with their sh toy. They're not hurting anybody, are they? --Dijxtra 01:05, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if they can have sh wiki, I want klingon wiki to play. I won't hurt anyone, I promise (if they will not come close to my bat'leth :-), So I can count on you for unlocking of klingon wikipedia? SpeedyGonsales 01:36, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I don't give my votes before I see the actual question... but in general case, assuming good will, yes, you can count on my vote. --Dijxtra 09:34, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AID templates[edit]

I only moved the templates that are for maintenance down to the bottom because nobody except for me uses them and the ones that should be used by nominators (AIDnom and the nomination template) are mentioned in your description anyway. Nice job, the new introduction is very clear and well structured. :-) --Fenice 22:45, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

 • You're right. I changed it to 'bottom of the list of nominations on this page'. I think this should be clear to everyone.--Fenice 08:49, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stroking the D's[edit]

I owe you a big apology, because I completely misunderstood your intention with the D-stroke moves, until I read your response to a comment on the Slavic page. The end result is that "D with stroke" becomes an article on the Latin letter, which is what I have intended the whole time. The confusion resulted from that I envisioned changing the fat disambiguation page to an article, while you proposed moving the disambiguation page to make room for essentially the same article.

I'm not crazy about page titles like "Đ", and I think that one should redirect to the article about the Latin letter in case someone actually links it on a page, but as a disambiguation page it's relatively harmless. That the actual article will have an English title makes me happy. Sorry to have been such a grouch about this, unnecessarily. Cheers, Michael Z. 2006-01-18 22:59 Z

AID[edit]

If you have time, please take a look at my concerns about the Article Improvement Drive nomination of Cold War posted here. Thanks. 172 23:20, 18 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking for archives of discussion comments that led to this winning the article improvement drive. I think it ought to be linked on the talk page so that we can see if there were any guidelines as to what is needed to improve the article, beyond our own good judgment. User:AlMac|(talk) 03:28, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There, I put the discussion in to do section. --Dijxtra 08:46, 23 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talking down Nestore[edit]

I have a problem you may be able to help with. User:Nestore has repeatedly 1 and continues to vandalize the Yugo article in regards to the Balkan wars 2. I attempted to explain to him(?) Wikipedia policy on NPOV and such; he erased my comments from his talk page. He knows quite a bit about the subject, but it's all very tainted with his opinions 3, and nobody seems to be able to convince him otherwise. As a resident of that region of the world, perhaps you could try talking some reason into him and his methods. The alternative is seeking a user ban. -Litefantastic 00:19, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh. This one's though. I inspected the case and I see this is a really stubborn guy. I see he has been warned for vandalism quite a faw times, and even blocked... Seems to me like this guy isn't going to listen to me. But, I'll give it a shot and try to talk to him. But, not until Saturday since at the moment I'm learning for my exams (have 3 this week). So, if you're not in a hurry, you can wait for a week or so to see if I'll have any success reasoning with him (which I doubt I will, but I'll give my best) and then try contacting some admin to see if he is material for blocking... --Dijxtra 07:55, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck to you, and thanks. -Litefantastic 18:24, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm game[edit]

As the AID's perpetual backup man, I've take to updating '/History' again. I signed that list you put together.

Cool. I saw you did some great management in the past, just thought it'd be nicer if we didn't depend on just one guy (you know the metaphor with all of the eggs in just one basket...). BTW, I didn't put Architecture of Africa to History, because I find the procedure rather awkward and thought it'd be nicer to put things to History after they become former AID collaboration... What do you think of that? --Dijxtra 23:20, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's been my policy to update immeadiately, and it's worked pretty well. That doesn't mean it's the best idea though; look at the oldest Talk: archive to see some of the goofy rules we set the AID up on at the very beginning. Also: I've decided that crediting myself as helping you isn't fair, so I changed it to say 'Dijextra et al.'; do you think, for any given week, we could archive the people who helped in that particular week under a separate maintanance sub-sub page, instead of clearing the list after ten contributions? Example: Wikipedia:Article Improvement Drive/Maintenance/1-29-2006

Naaaaah, it's not that much important to me that my name gets written anywhere. You could have left Dijextra & Litefantastic, I just don't care. And keeping track of who helped where seems like overkill to me. Then we have to form a task force that will archive the Maintenance ;-) No, if anybody whishes to see who helped, he can check out older versions of the Maintenance page, I think that's enough. --Dijxtra 10:12, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I like this community work thing, by the way. The AID has a way of breaking people. I quit the first time because the rules we had back then were insane; the second time around was easier because all I had to do was change templates and let whoever felt like it remove expired noms. -Litefantastic 00:23, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, have you talked with Nestore yet? Although, if you look at his contributions page, it looks as though he's given up, been blocked or taken to editing through IP only. -Litefantastic 13:42, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, I didn't talk with him... because I don't know what to do with this guy :-((( It's not that I think he's OK, I think he's doing some really bad things (edit warring, for instance, the guy's sometimes pure vandal), but at the moment he seems quiet, so I decided not to contact him until he does some mess again. Because I don't know what to tell him. And when he does the mess again, I'll approach him on case-by-case basis and try to reason him out step-by-step, if you know what I mean.
I'm really fond of Yugo (it is a cult car here, one of my best friends has one and I'm terribly bond(ed?) to that car), and I'll do what I can to help him understand edit warring won't get us a good article... if he chooses to mess with it again. I'm just reluctant to start thinking of how to deal with him and the fact he stopped vandalising is a nice excuse ;-) --Dijxtra 23:20, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maintenance of AID[edit]

Hi there,

I see you have been updating votes on AID nominations. Maybe you will be interested in my proposal to coordinate such maintenance work on AID: Wikipedia:Article_Improvement_Drive/Maintenance. --Dijxtra 12:30, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yes i've been updating since Ottoman Empire nominated. It can be a good idea. What is the difference of Checked the nominations subsection and Rollover--Ugur Basak 15:15, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Checked the nominations subsection is the thing you do now and then. Rollover is done once a week, on Sunday. That's when current AID article is elected, and everybody who voted for the article which was elected has to be informed about it. --Dijxtra 23:04, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I understand.--Ugur Basak 10:45, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WHY/HOW REVISIONISM?[edit]

There is no revisionism but a mere timeline of who was first and when/where they did it.

If there "49 local men" were communists than it is correct they were first COMMUNIST rebels ever in Kingdom and if they were NOT the communists than the statement is incorrect but whole incident in Sisak is irrelevant for Jusuf Broz history.

So, where is revisionism?

The addition of words "OF COMMUNISTS" does not distort the fact communists had their uprising nor it deminishes the significance of the same. It just adds time line order.

RE:

 • On June 22, a group of 49 local men attacked a German supply train near Sisak thus beginning the first anti-fascist uprising in occupied Yugoslavia.

vs.

 • On June 22, a group of 49 local men attacked a German supply train near Sisak thus beginning the first anti-fascist uprising OF COMMUNISTS in occupied Yugoslavia. --—Preceding unsigned comment added by Djenka018 (talkcontribs)
Revisionism is in fact that one in encyclopedias uses most general phrase he can. If you add "communist", it implicates there was a anti-fascist uprising which preceded the communist one and which wasn't communist. And that's suptile revisionism, because there was no anti-fascist uprising in Yugoslavia preceding the communist one. If you are not revising history, of course. Please, sign your comments. --Dijxtra 22:52, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Web sites[edit]

I removed my two website from wikipedia, don't put them back.

Please prove this websites are yours. If the are yours, I'll remove them. If you can't prove they are yours, you are vandalising and I will revert them. --Dijxtra 16:27, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will not allow that my sites standings by a text which is not true. It is also better if You don't write about Croatia because You're knowledge about this country is below zero. Better if You write about the dead country Yugoslavia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by KroatieHR (talkcontribs) 18:23, 2 February 2006

First of all, please sign your commnets. You can do that by writing ~~~~. Second, do not make personal attacks because it is very rude and you can get blocked for that. --Dijxtra 16:27, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The fan page from Skoro and Thompson are from me the are made by the web site www.hrvatska.nl and I own them all, because of this I removed them I i want that they will not be placed on sites which are not telling the truth. KroatieHR 16:39, 2 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble again[edit]

Nestore is back on his feet and vadalizing again. I leave it to your best judgement whether or not to seek a ban or just talk him down. If you seek a ban, I'll second your motion. -Litefantastic 13:40, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There. I gave my best shot. I don't know how to approack this guy... seems like his a no-win case. --Dijxtra 14:05, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thanks for trying. -Litefantastic 20:18, 5 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of Croatian singer articles[edit]

 • Why don't you refer the people constantly vandalizing the Miroslav Skoro, Marko Perkovic, etc. articles to the proper Wikipedia authorities? They have not responded to logical discussion, and are plainly just vandals. I would do it myself, but I'm not very familiar with this kind of process in Wikipedia... –165.228.129.11 07:38, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the thing is, I asked a few questions and people told me that if the guy is the owner of this sites, let him remove the links. So, I left him in peace, because he stopped removing everything other except the links. If he removes some serious facts, than I'll report him. --Dijxtra 09:18, 8 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough; I agree. –165.228.129.11 06:54, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can You also remove the link to the website from www.skoro.hr on the site, I'am also the webmaster of that site, and it dont belong by the text which is standing here KroatieHR 16:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No I can't. That's official web site of the singer and that data is relevant for Wikipedia. --Dijxtra 16:41, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Then You have to change the text and stop with the personal attacks against Skoro, or else i have to report this. KroatieHR 06:09, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please, do report this. BTW, Wikipedia:No personal attacks considered comunication between editors, not content of articles, but if you wish to report me, please do. --Dijxtra 08:50, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maroubra[edit]

Hi thanks for responding about the notes. If it will be too hard to fix I'm thinking I may put back some external links I had placed in the actual article and have them there rather than lost in the notes. I'm glad you liked Maroubra. We just moved here from Coogee beach. My boys and I all surf so its pretty good. Cheers.Maroubrakid 10:57, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I propose to put some links in the paragraphs rather than down in the notes. I think it would flow better when reading (especially seeing the notes are currently mixed up). For example: if it talks about the plaque here in Sydney, then has an external link about the plaque at the end of that sentence I think it would be easier to read than it is now. Regards Maroubrakid 21:31, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bots[edit]

What sort of bot did you have in mind? A bot for updating Wikipedia? an IRC Bot? Any particular languagues you do/do not want to use etc. --pgk(talk) 19:26, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'd try python as the language, something I picked up reasonably easily quite recently, though I'm not totally comfortable with it, it seems pretty good for some things. There is a framework for Wikipedia bots available see m:Pywikipedia. This should get you started but I'm happy to try and answer any questions or point you to someone who can be of more help. (FWIW I believe there is also a perl framework, but I'm not in anyway familiar with that or where to find it) --pgk(talk) 22:56, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've not had that particular error, but it would be as it says, the connection to wikipedia is being rejected for some reason, this might be a config issue on the machine you are running or just a transient issue. I'd try running the login.py script again to login and see if that has any issues connecting to Wikipedia --pgk(talk) 21:04, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commons translation for sh:?[edit]

Hi Dijxtra. I noticed you are one of only two users at Commons in commons:Category:user sh! :)

I was wondering if you would mind doing a translation for me on commons:User:Pfctdayelise/Translations? It's only two short lines. Thanks, if you can help :)

There. I did the best I could, and now I'll contact the guys from locat Croatian and Serbo-Croatian Wikipedias and tell them to check for consistency with their own terminology, so don't use this translation for next couple of days, until the guys from local Wikipedias fix it.

BTW, do you use the Commons very much? If so, you should consider running for adminship. It is handy to have admins in a wide variety of languages! pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:42, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's the very reason I requested adminship, but I recieved 0 votes: [1]. :-)

Oh... and hr: would be handy as well! :) pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:43, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dijxtra, your translation seems perfectly fine. --dcabrilo 19:00, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andrić article[edit]

OK, I'll have a watch on the Ivo Andric article. In the meantime - why don't you tell to some administrator? --HolyRomanEmperor 18:41, 20 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Because it can be content dispute, or vandalism, depending on a POV. I mean, it is vandalism, but I'd have a rough time proving that to an admin. So, in cases like this, I preffer to revert, and turn the guy in if he's persistent. They give up sometimes... --Dijxtra 08:24, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pogledaj clanak u Markovicu. --dcabrilo 20:50, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonia-stub[edit]

Hi Nikola - in cases like this, WP:WSS tends to wait and see. At the moment, there aren't enough stubs for the categories to really be viable, but since there's a wikiproject there are likely to be a lot of new items stubbed with the templates. For now, it's a keep, but if they haven't grown in a couple of months then they may end up being nominated for deletion. BTW - there seem to be two different stubs for bio: macedonia-bio-stub and macedonian-bio-stub. The second one's already been taken to WP:SFD, since the naming guidelines are "countryname-bio-stub" (don't worry, if it's deleted any articles that use it will be given the other template). In summary then, use macedonia-stub and macedonia-bio-stub, and we'll see how many stubs there are in a couple of months! Grutness...wha? 06:22, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD on Jeremy[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Jeremy_Rosenfeld_2 --Candide, or Optimism 22:46, 23 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Macedonia-stub PS[edit]

A couple of small points about the new stubs BTW - any geographical articles (towns, lakes, etc) should be double stubbed with both macedonia-stub and euro-geo-stub (WSS keeps track of what countries have enough geo-stubs for their own articles by going through categories like the euro-geo-stub one. Macedonia isn't there yet, but will be getting close if this new wikiproject takes off). The other thing is that you might like to consider altering the wording of the stub templates slightly so as to avoid any potential problems with Greek editors. I don't know the situation re Macedonia and Greece well enough to do it myself, but I do know it could be a problem. Grutness...wha? 00:05, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Good points, very good points. I'll have in mind the mac-geo situation when writing instructions for our stub sorting project... and, about the Mac/Greece issue, I disambiged the link in Macedonia-stub. I hope that will be enough for the Greek editors. --Dijxtra 09:48, 24 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

medal infobox 2[edit]

Hi, could you please point me to the place where you discussed adding the names of the cities to medal infobox? The other guy and I think that's not a nice thing. --Dijxtra 07:35, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ha. I didn't like it either, because it was too lengthy. But it was discussed at Template talk:MedalTop#Games location with year?. Hi Djixtra. I've put the page in my watchlist, and please, if you find any more articles vandalized by that moron, please let me know and i'll put them on my watchlist too. Cya out there ;) --Dr.Gonzo

Thanks for the warning. Please, put Molise Croatian dialect on your watchlist. I've just spent my three reverts and the vandal isn't giving up. --Zmaj 09:35, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, I think it's OK to leave "ruler of Dalmatia and Pannonia" instead of "ruler of Dalmatian Croats and Pannonian Croats" because it actually widens the scope of rule of the Croatian dukes (over the Croats and all others who lived there) and seems to me closer to reality. What do you think? --Zmaj 12:19, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I might help there: Pannonia and Dalmatia were ruled by Slavic (proto-Croatian) Princes. See the Trpimir article - since his reign - the House of Trpimir styled themselves as Dukes of the Croats - so since the middle of the 9th century, it would be appropriate to call them "Dukes" and "Croatian" - or "Croatian Dalmatia". --HolyRomanEmperor 15:10, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. I know nothing of this thematics apart from things I learned in school. And, that is not exactly NPOV. But, I presume that if the guy does not supply sources for his thesis, we should revert him, because the sources I have call this dukes "Croatian". --Dijxtra 15:13, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes - that is what is generally accepted in the global history - although, see Trpimir: Trpimir had three sons (Petar, Zdeslav and Muncimir). Duke Trpimir issued a document in Latin donating the church of Sv. Juraj (St. George's) at Putalj to the bishop of Nin. In this document, dated from 4 March 852, duke Trpimir referred to himself as the Duke of Croats (dux Chroatorum) and to his country as the state of the Croats (regnum Chroatorum). This is the second mention of Croats in the history - and the final - since then, there were only "Croatian Dukes" of Dalmatia - not just slavic (proto-Croatian) "Princes". I hope this helps. --HolyRomanEmperor 15:35, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Treba pomoc[edit]

Bog i hvala unaprijed! --HolyRomanEmperor 21:53, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Evo, sad vise nisu sivi :-) Jel sad u redu?
A ja znam dosta o povijesti. Znaci, Tvrtko je bio Kralj Hrvatske od 1390 do 1391; neovisno od toga sto je samo uzeo titulu i vladao samo kratko, trebalo bi ga pomenuti. Jel' mozes ti to smjestit? --HolyRomanEmperor 13:19, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hm.

:) Bog! --HolyRomanEmperor 18:03, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. Cheers! --HolyRomanEmperor 20:49, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Homer Simpson[edit]

Hey Dijxtra, you've removed Homer Simpson. But it says till March 25 [4] Cheers.--Ugur Basak 12:12, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, this is wierd. I'm very, very sorry, I don't know how this happened. I remember that the bot reported that the nomination expired and I didn't check, I don't know why... damn, I'm realy terrified now, I don't know how that happened... sorry, I'm sure it won't happen again :-( --Dijxtra 17:29, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I hope it won't happen again, cause i have to RFC on you :). Afterall you are working for AID. Good luck--Ugur Basak 20:15, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, look, I don't have anything against Homer Simpson. In fact, he's one of my favourite cartoon characters, this was just a pure mistake. We all err, an error can happen to everybody :-) Don't take it so seriously. If I had anything against Homer, I'd state that somewhere and try to discuss things. I don't think this mistake of mine is so great that it deserves mentioning of RfC... I did many nice things on wikipedia and not one bad thing. It's not as if I did that 5 times... --Dijxtra 21:20, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Dijxtra, i've found an error:) I hope you don't get angry, because i only talk to you on this subjects. [5] I don't know how it happened but AIDBot removed last nominee. Btw this RFC thing is just a joke:) I hope you don't take it serios. Take care--Ugur Basak 09:39, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hoh, hoh! I have a bug. If last nomination doesn't end with "----", the bot drops it. I'll fix it ASAP. Thanks for noticing that! --Dijxtra 12:32, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Croatian Wikiproject[edit]

Hello. As you started the Wikipedia:WikiProject Former Yugoslavia, I felt compelled to ask you... Would you feel at all offended if I started a Croatian Wikiproject? I wouldn't want to "invade your turf", but I think a more specialized project could be more effective in this case, and that there are users who would join such a project who wouldn't normally join the Former Yugoslavia project.

Don't be ridiculous, of course I wouldn't feel offended even the slightest bit! First of all, you are free to do whatever you wish at wikipedia and I am not supposed to get offended. But, even if we ignore that, I can't see why I would get offended. I live in Croatia and love my country and if you suceed in making Wikiproject Croatia active... well, I'll be thrilled! In fact, I my self thought of opening something like that and even had some discussions with Joy about forming Croatian noticeboard, but the idea stalled because we coudn't determine if there was any interest. That's main reason why we ended up opening Wikiproject Former Yugoslavia: because I found some people willing to contribute and join me. And they weren't Croats (but Serbs and Slovenes), but were really nice people. So I decided that it would be much better to start FY project which will have few contributors and will cover topics from all over the western Balcans, then to start Croatia project which will have only one contributor - me. So we (the people who opened the project) made a deal - we'll collaborate on topics not only concerning Yugoslavia (Kingdom, SFRY or FRY) but also articles on contemporary states (Slovenia, Croatia, BiH, SiCG and Macedonia). And if it turns out that the project developes to such extent that and we need to split it to local projects - we would do the split.
What I'm trying to say is: feel free to start Wikiproject Croatia. I not only won't feel offended, but will probably join you sometime in the future (at the moment I'm on a sort of wikibreak as I have lots of stuff to do in my private life, so I won't be joining you at the begining). But, my experinece tells me that your project will probably fail because of lack of interest. But I might be wrong! And I'd be very pleased to see me being wrong and the project not getting stalled! Because we need more articles on Croatia, as you correctly stated. But, if the project fails and if you decide to abandon it (which I hope won't happen, but...), I invite you to join WPFY and work on stuff relating to Croatia...

The overall quality of Croatian articles on Wikipedia has sorta stagnated and editors seem bogged down with just reverting and undoing damage to contribute much new stuff. I think this will help coordinate these efforts.

I'll also be sure to have lots of links to Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, just so no one has any misconception about my intentions. :D I look forward to your reponse. --Thewanderer 03:41, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If anybody gets the impression that you are trying to push POV just because you opened a wikiproject relating to your country - then the guy has issues :-))) I wish you all the best in starting the wikiproject and I hope it becomes active! --Dijxtra 11:07, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the support. After your break give WikiProject Croatia a look. --Thewanderer 18:42, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AID rollover[edit]

I completed today's rollover of the WP:AID candidate, except for items 5 and 6 on the maintenance list. I don't quite understand what they mean. Could you help me out? Joyous | Talk 18:46, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I can. Point nr. 5 means this: [6]. You have to add diffs to last week's AIDs (which I can see you just did), and add the current AID to the table (with no diffs). Point nr. 6 means this: removing new AID from the project page, puting the content you removed to new AID article's to do
If you still don't understand, ask again and I'll be more precise. --Dijxtra 21:56, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think I've got it done, even though I consider myself Joyous:Destroyer of Tables.
There, I fixed it ;-)
What is the "management team" on the history page? Is that me, because I performed the rollover? Joyous | Talk 22:37, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that's you ;-) --Dijxtra 22:42, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, then add him to the list of rulers of Croatia if you wish, I'll fix any errors in design if you make some. --Dijxtra 19:15, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's the problem. Just throwing him into the list of Bans (chronological order) is a little difficult for me. :S --HolyRomanEmperor 15:12, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is what you have to do. Click here. Find where it says: <tr>
<td> Ivan (John) of Paližna</td>
<td> 1386-1391</td>
<td> </td>
</tr>

After that add:

<tr>
<td> Stefan Tvrtko I </td>
<td> 1390 – March 10 1391</td>
<td> "King of Rascia, Bosnia, Dalmatia, Croatia, the Seaside"</td>
</tr>

And, that's it :-) "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." ;-) --Dijxtra 15:30, 1 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh, what a mess on that page... it should really be converted to Wikimedia "Pipe" format, much easier to maintain.
Yeah, I'll do that as soon as I finish my wikibreak (I allow myself only talk_page and high priority edits at the moment).

AIDBot Error Message[edit]

This isn't a major issue, but its rather confusing.

Formating error: fifth line has to be ";Support:"

Action: put ";Support:" on fifth line

Should it not say fourth rather then fifth? --Steven 00:23, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmmm, you are quite right. There, I think I fixed it... --Dijxtra 09:00, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Another issue has recently come to my attention after someone alerted me that I removed a nomination too early. Marco Polo nomination had a mis-matched stay until date. In the header, it says it's over due, but the in the subheader, it wasn't. However, the bot seems to outway the problem of overdue nominations more then mismatching dates, so I was not informed that needed to be changed. --Steven 01:34, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see, the bot doesn't check for mismaching data in header and in nomination... OK, I'll fix that bug as soon as I get some time. Sorry for writting such a buggy application :-( --Dijxtra 07:02, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's a wonderful application, I'm just being picky and tired from all the nomination removing. Another question I want to ask is, does the bot check for null votes? (ip users and users with only 1 contribution etc.) Thankyou --Steven 21:14, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA[edit]

I am supporting you in your RfA, but I suggest you review the policies related to sockpuppets and understand under what circumstances they are generally blocked. JoshuaZ 14:49, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, this is how I understand blocking policies on sockpuppets: first I have to gather credible evidence that a user is sockpuppet. It is not polite to request a CheckUser if you do not have firm evidence that the user is a sockpuppet. When I gather enough evidence, then I request a CheckUser. If a CheckUser procedure determines the user is a sock, then I'm allowed to block him indefinetly. Is that correct? If not, I'd be more than happy to learn the correct policy. --Dijxtra 17:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The relevant issue is that sometimes socks are legitimate. One needs to be sure that the person is using the sock for an illegitimat purpose, i.e. evading 3rv, giving an illusion of false consensus, etc. The mere existence of a sock is not by itself blockable (even though the majority socks are for illegitimate purposes). Also note that if a user is very blatantly a sock being used for an extremely illegitimate purpose than one can block first and not go to checkuser unless the user protests. WP:SOCK explains these issues in more details. JoshuaZ 17:44, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I mean, that's obvious, isn't it? 1) If the person is not doing anything bad, then why would I collect evidence against him in the first place? 2) Why would I block somebody for not doing anything bad? It's not that sockpuppets consume Wikipedia resources or something, socks are bad because they help evade Wikipedia policies like 3RR or voting or something. If the sockpuppet is not used for such a thing, then why blocking it? I mean, that's common sence and I thought that people wouldn't even consider blocking a user which doesn't do no harm. I sure hope that those guys which opposed my RfA didn't oppose it because they thought I'm stupid enough to block a benign user. WP:SOCK is there to prevent sockpuppets from doing bad things, not to prevent sockpuppets for no reason at all. --Dijxtra 17:54, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Kanuni sockpuppetry[edit]

Hello future administrator :-). Since I suppose you have read WP:SOCK thoroughly recently, tell me if there's anything else that I should do, apart from placing the template on the User page, regarding a sockpuppet? Specifically, I'm referring to User:Kanuni. (The evidence is pretty self-telling – nobody can spell that bad). Duja 19:34, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, as I understand the procedure you should make a page somewhere, possibly in your userspace where you would write down the evidence, however obvious it might be, just to make sure everybody realises the obvious (as you can see in my RfA, not everything which is obvious to me is obvious to everybody else). Then you should make a Wikipedia:Requests for CheckUser on grounds of trying to stage a concensus. If the CheckUser confirms the suspicion, then you should ask a admin to block the sock.
Right, all this should be written on WP:SOCK. Ah, I think that as soon as my RfA ends I'll propose some changes to WP:SOCK. There sould be a precise procedure on how to deal with malicious sockpuppets, and it should be explained on WP:SOCK. --Dijxtra 20:07, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
He appears to get auto-blocked already (a naive try), so I won't do anything more for the time being. Thanks in any case. Duja 20:59, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... here it says he's not blocked. --Dijxtra 21:11, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
RTFM :-)). "Auto-blocked IP addresses are not listed here." He's in Category:Requests for unblock though. Duja 21:32, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. User:Hipi Zhdripi got blocked, but was uninformed enough to attempt to edit a page, which got his IP auto-blocked, so when he logged in as User:Kanuni it seemed to him he was blocked, but in fact he wasn't, it was just his IP blocked :-D But, I'm still right, Kanuni is not blocked, it just his underlying IP, and auto-blocks expire after 24h. So, he still should be blocked to prevent him from sockpuppeting after his auto-block expires... and now you have another evidence that Kanuni is a sock ;-) --Dijxtra 22:20, 10 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep an eye on the Kosovo article, Hipi has been very active recently and I had to ask for semi-protection. He has also vandalised many userpages, calling everyone a sockpuppet. I am concerned about recent moves by User:Ilir pz to unprotect the page, mainly because he has been involved in edit warring and refused mediation by User:PANONIAN. There has certainly been a huge rise in the number of socks/throwaway usernames in place. Thanks to the semiprotection for the Kosovo, Serbia, S&M, etc articles, these are kept in place. I would appreciate if you can express your opinion here: Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection#Kosovo_.28edit.7Ctalk.7Clinks.7Chistory.7Cwatch.29. Thanks, --Asterion talk to me 16:57, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations! I am informing you that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator. Take this time to read relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks such as deletion, blocking, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Your help[edit]

I really would like to ask you to make me a favour: please unblock User:ROGNNTUDJUU! I think that is a mistake and this user needs a second chance. Best regards, StabiloBoss 12:55, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. As I see it, the User:ROGNNTUDJUU! account was positive on CheckUser. Now, there exists a really small possibility that the account is not a sockpuppet, but my personal opinion is that we're better off by blocking the account which is positive on CheckUser. If the account isn't a sock and if those two guys are two distinct persons using the same router, then the User:ROGNNTUDJUU! guy had really bad luck, but I can't know that. I hope that you understand that there is no way I can tell if he is a sock and the CheckUser is right or that pretty rare occasion of CheckUser being wrong has happened. And therefore there's no ground on which I can decide to unblock the user. I'm sorry.
What you can do (it would be really sad if Wikipedia was the orwellian kind of organisation where you can't do anything once you're blocked indefinetly) is open a request for arbitration and state his case there. I wish you all the luck in your pursuit of justice. --Dijxtra 14:40, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, ukoliko se registrirate ovdje: http://commons.wikimedia.org/, tu smijete staviti slika koliko god ocete i nece vam ih obrisati. http://commons.wikimedia.org/ sluzi upravo ono me sto vi zelite: da mozete staviti fotografije bilo cega, pa i umjetnina. Bitno je samo da su fotografije vase. Stoga se vi lijepo registrirajte na http://commons.wikimedia.org/ i tamo postavite slike Sadka Hadžihasanovića i nitko vam nece nista.
Inace, ako su slike Image:Lieutnant Vladimir Dretar in the year 1944 .png i Image:Tomislav Dretar, pukovnik HVO-a Bihać.jpg isto vase vlasnistvo, mozda biste ih zeljeli oznaciti sa GFDL umjesto fairuse? --Dijxtra 21:43, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
