Hi I need help with uploading a non-free image which is a logo of this organisation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Diabetes.victoria/Diabetes_Australia_Victoria I'm not sure where to upload it to.. i tried looking around, but the only place accepting file uploads is wikimedia commons? and it's not accepting this type of non-free logo.. help please?

You need to use the upload page (located in the "toolbox" on the left side of the screen). You will find a link for non-free logos on that page. Frehley 08:48, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Frehley! I've uploaded the picture. I hope everything's alright with the licensing and stuff.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Diabetes Australia Victoria, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.savers.com.au/Alliances.aspx. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 05:01, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Diabetes Australia Victoria requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Chzz  ►  05:40, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

July 2009[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope that I don't seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: your username makes it appear that you are the organization itself, which is against the username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your views, for instance, your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

There are several options available to you:

Thank you. —C45207 | Talk 05:41, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi C45207, Would it solve everything if I change my username? because I would not mind changing it to my real name and my article has been tag for speedy deletion, can you help me with that? I am open to changes on my article and suggestions for improvement, but please don't just delete it without giving me any chance for improvement. Thanks.. Diabetes.victoria (talk) 05:47, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It wouldn't change everything, but "organizational accounts" tend to be blocked on sight. You can avoid that kind of blocking by changing your username.
As for the article, it has some issues, paramount being that large sections seem to be copied more-or-less directly from http://www.diabetesvic.org.au/Aboutus/tabid/83/Default.aspx. Content on Wikipedia needs to adhere to the current license, and most third-party copyrighted works do not meet this requirement without some additional verification and release. I can post instructions if you want.
Though, I must stress that editing an article about yourself, your employer, or something you are closely related to tends to result in lower quality articles: they are inadvertently and often unintentionally biased or read like advertisements. I urge you to read Wikipedia's policy about Conflict of Interest editing before you edit Diabetes Australia Victoria and related articles again.
You are welcome–and we'd love to have you–edit in other areas.—C45207 | Talk 06:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have made a change on my username, by following the link you've given me.Diabetes.victoria (talk) 06:01, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good step in the right direction. See above.—C45207 | Talk 06:04, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • You were requested to change your username because, coupled with the article, the name itself is a form of advertising, and that is not permitted. That does not affect the status of the article, but it is necessary to continue editing on Wikipedia.
  • The article is nominated for deletion because it is a copy of copyrighted material on the organization website, and that site has a clear copyright notice. It is illegal to copy copyright information, and therefore it must be deleted quickly.
  • It is very strongly recommended that people do not edit articles with which they are personally involved. This is detailed in the business faq, which I suggest you read.
I hope that this clarifies.  Chzz  ►  06:12, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So, I have sent in a request for a change in username as you can see at the bottom of this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Changing_username .Now, what do I do? wait for an email to be sent to me? or do I have to wait for an admin to pass by and approve the request? Re. Walk 'n' Talk

Hi, I'd like to improve this article more so that it meets the criteria, so that it won't be deleted, Can someone guide me on how to do that? Should I add in more third-party articles? or Should I add in some facts that make this article important enough? Please help. Diabetes.victoria (talk) 08:48, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To avoid deletion under speedy deletion criterion A7, the article must have some claim of notability. "If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article." At present, much of the content is self-published, which does not help the article meet the notability requirement.
You probably also want to review the "Your first article" tutorial, which addresses may issues that editors have when creating their first articles.
As noted before, you have a conflict of interet with respect to this organization and probably should not be editing its pages, except in a few limited circumstances.—C45207 | Talk 09:07, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you.  Chzz  ►  09:14, 21 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username Change[edit]

Hi, Just wanted to re-quote something here that I mentioned at your CHU request:

Clerk note: Please, please, realise that the conflict of interest still exists, no matter what the username is. It's not about the username, it's about your affiliation with the company

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy because your account is being used only for spam, advertising, or promotion. If you believe this block is unjustified you may contest this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
