Hey @Orangemike - just noticed that my account has been blocked and I'm wondering why. I looked at the compromised block section and, to my knowledge, I have access to this account, so unsure why it would be considered compromised. Unless you're counting logging in from another computer?
The account isn't locked, as I'm logged in without issue.

Compromised user account
Your account has been blocked indefinitely because it is suspected that it has been compromised. If your account is locked, please contact ca@wikimedia.org. Otherwise, if you are able to confirm that you are the user who created this account, please read the guide to appealing blocks (specifically this section), then add this below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.Orange Mike | Talk 13:17, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
According to posts here, this account was used by at least one other person in your absence ("I am filling in for them at the moment"). This is not permitted, and we have to assume that the account is compromised and should be abandoned. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:22, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Mike,
Again, there was a family emergency - that I am still in the midst of - and I am out of the office dealing with that, so I have another person handling this for the moment. So what I'm reading is that I have to either work on this article during a rather stressful event or just leave this alone until that event is over?
Forgive me for being difficult, but this does not make any sense to me. The account isn't compromised; I just needed to place this in the hands of someone else while I handle a stressful family emergency, especially when there needs to be independent sources, which is being worked on, but again, I can't think of that right now.
Essentially, my question is how do we get the account unblocked before it gets locked, which I would like to avoid. So how do we do that? Devongreene (talk) 22:30, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The person you've asked to take the account over in the interim needs to get their own account and disclose properly, and you need to change your password posthaste to something completely different. As long as they have and use their own account, nothing stops them from editing the draft or asking about it in your stead; the issue is when multiple people have access to the account as it makes the required edit attribution impossible to determine. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 08:06, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation. I went ahead and just changed the password and will just manage the account on my own.
Again, I ask the question of how to get the account unblocked at this point so I can continue working on this. Devongreene (talk) 14:18, 22 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
At this point, you need to formally request unblock as instructed in the block template, with {{unblock|(reason)}}. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 19:55, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much.

Decline reason:

I am declining your unblock request because it does not address the reason for your block, or because it is inadequate for other reasons. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. Orange Mike | Talk 13:47, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Orangemike We don't normally unblock compromised accounts, but this explanation seems plausible to me. I don't know if the solution here is to remove the block, allow them to create a new account, or do nothing. 331dot (talk) 10:20, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

331dot, I think unblocking makes sense here. Orangemike, any objection? signed, Rosguill talk 04:42, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As long as the account holder understands that there was never any urgency about their draft and that once they are unblocked they make full disclosure as to their conflict of interest here. --Orange Mike | Talk 05:50, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unblocked by OrangeMike (see discussion below) WaggersTALK 14:07, 4 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have been trying to get this account unblocked since before Thanksgiving. I have tried to explain the situation and I'm still confused as to why this account is still blocked. I have tried to respond to this message, only to get an error that this has to be edited on the edit source page (hence why I've had to create a completely new section) and I've also tried to appeal this block to the administrators, again only to be told to come back to the talk page.

As I tried to explain to OrangeMike, I am currently dealing with a family illness that took me out of state while I was working on a page here. I asked a colleague of mine to ask a question that I had, as well as keep an eye on any responses because I had other priorities. I was not aware that every single person needed to have an account or that it was a compromise to have one person answer any responses. Again, I was dealing with an unexpected emergency and didn't want to just leave the page for an undetermined amount of time while I was with my family.

I have followed the instructions by changing the password, but I am still restricted from accessing my account, despite my explanation to OrangeMike. My question now is what is the reason for my account still being blocked? I followed the steps for requesting to have the account unblocked, which was a simple password change. I am unclear as to why this continues to be denied, especially when the last response seems to share my confusion as to why this continues to be blocked. Devongreene (talk) 14:49, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the nowiki tags which prevented the proper display of your request. 331dot (talk) 15:06, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks much. Again, I had been trying to reply since the block and right before Thanksgiving, but to no avail. Do I still have to apply to your previous message or does the above new topic work towards getting unblocked? I know I'm sounding like a broken record, but I haven't really been given a clear reason as to why I'm still blocked, especially when I followed the outlined steps of changing the password and being the sole person on the account. Devongreene (talk) 20:02, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The reason you haven't been unblocked is likely that we aren't sure if you are going to return to the behavior that led to your block, and that we aren't sure that unblocking you at this time is in the best interest of the encyclopedia. It appears to me that Orangemike declined your unblock request after roughly a month with no reply from you.
Are you going to share the password to your account again? Even if something very important comes up? While we're here - do you understand our policies on paid editing, and conflicts of interest, and the issues that these can cause when creating neutral encyclopedia articles? SQLQuery Me! 22:25, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey there, thanks for the reply. As mentioned, one of the reasons I hadn't replied back was that I couldn't - when I tried to click reply, it would just tell me to go to the source tab, but that also wouldn't allow me to reply back, which i had been trying to do right before Thanksgiving. As 331dot explained, there was some sort of block that prevented me from being able to reply, something I didn't know until I created a new tab. And being the holidays and the situation with family, this was not a priority for me.
As I've never used Wikipedia - other than using it for the occasional info - I was not aware that, in an emergency situation, that having someone ask a question in my stead was a big deal (this is, to me, not the same as having the account hacked in some way or having a password stolen), and again at the time, Wikipedia was not my concern. So lesson learned and I am not planning on sharing the password with anyone else.
With that said, I have followed the disclosure rules, as it does state on my profile that I am a paid contributor. In fact, that was one of the first things I did and as I was having issues with a few links, I had planned to take Orangemike's advice on 3rd party articles when unfortunately, the emergency situation occurred. I understand that my account was blocked due to violations of Wikipedia's policies, and I sincerely apologize for those actions.
I would like to assure you that I am committed to following the policies and guidelines going forward and would be extremely grateful if you could please unblock my account so that I can get back to contributing. I will be more careful in the future to ensure that I am following all of the rules and guidelines.
Thank you. Devongreene (talk) 17:15, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You've been unblocked. Keep in mind, always, that there is no urgency with regard to most Wikipedia entries, and we have an incredibly stringent standard for what constitutes "urgency" or "emergency." On a planet of some eight billion souls, your articles are just a leaf on the wind. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:32, 3 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
